THE MAN OF LAW: LUDWIG MARUM - documentary theatre by Hajo Kurzenberger

Ойын-сауық

‘Never forget him!’ is the message his wife called out to the grieving guests at Marum’s funeral in 1934. 3,000 citizens of Karlsruhe came to pay their last respects, despite the Nazis having prohibited the publication of the date. Just one year earlier, thousands had derided Ludwig Marum and seven other Baden politicians, as they were paraded through Karlsruhe to be deported to the newly established concentration camp Kizlau.
The combative jurist and politician, who had been an early opponent of the emerging fascism, had been a target of the NSDAP from the beginning, for he was a Jew and a social democrat. His letters sent from the concentration camp show him as a caring father and loving husband, but also as a firm believer in the law.
This is a production of a piece of local history with trans-regional relevance. Hajo Kurzenberger takes historical documents to manifest it on stage.
