Музыка

Laney is one of the world’s most iconic guitar amplifier brands - but did you know they started by Lyndon Laney building amps for his friends in his garage?!
Dagan sits down with James Laney - son of Lyndon and top boss at Laney Amplification - to discuss all things “loud”!
They chat about how the guitar amp company started, how they grew and developed their products across the decades, and what the future holds for this forward-thinking, innovative British brand.

What a fascinating interview, always felt Laney is massively underrated compared to others. I'd be curious to hear James run through their full line up of amps and spend a couple mins explaining the use case/target player of each one. Great job as always Dagan!

That was much fun to watch/listen to! I have a 60W Ironheart. Love that amp to bits. Laney has such a cool history. I loved hearing some more on it. Good to see that James Laney is so passionate about it.

I just bought an LA Studio brand new for €500. I actually like it more than my 2525C Silver Jubilee and it surprisingly is loud and has very nice cleans. I will be keeping this amp forever and ever.

Laney are great amps! My first proper amp (meaning not a 10w practice amp) was an iron heart 15w. I quickly upgraded to the 60, then went to what I thought was my dream combo of the EVH 5150iii and an orange 212 and yet still sold all that and gone back to the laney iron heart head and cab. It’s just a bit of me in that amp that I can’t let go of

I have the 60w Ironheart too. I love it dearly. You called it. I feel the same. There just is a bit of me in that amp. I clicked with it from day 1.

This is brilliant. Not to focus on money, but mentioning "fair price" honestly and openly, says a lot about James and the brand. Hearing Sunn starting up again only to see pricing and product release strategies bordering on insulting, milking the market trend, is sad. These guys clearly understand their customers and are offering great, unique, innovative and PURPOSEFUL gear, designed around SOUND; not just flaunting proprietary one-knob eq and mobile apps like other "British" amp companies that lack real character. Run a Kuro Exegol into the MXD120 for a wall of doom, it doesn't disappoint.

what I love about Laney is how they were there right in the beginning, like thsi interview showcased: literally coming out of the same bands and same clubs and gigs like some of the most iconic britsh rock bands of all time, were always there (unlike Orange) and had iconic great fucking amps in every decade (the used market prices of most of the laney heads of yesteryear like the AORs show that, in Germany most of the vintage Laneys are more expansive than Marshalls), and nowadays arguably are going way stronger than the big M - at least amp-wise. Marshall probably makes more money with consumer electronics, bluetooth speakers and headphones and the like, but famously fell short with the amps for a long time now. Laney, as most people who ever played one will testify, are going very strong with most of their resent releases. The Ironheart amps are brilliant, the loundpedal is heads and shoulders above most of the competition for the price (because it comes with a ton of useful features for actual giggin musicians) and sounds brilliant, the cubs and all that are brilliant. And they never tried to push into a market they just were not good at, like digital modelling amps. I can't think of a critical failure, a real POS Laney amp. Criminally underrated but just a musicians brand. Like british rock from Birmingham: working mans rock'n'roll.

I still have my AOR30 1x12 that I bought new as my first valve amp in the late 80's. Originally it was for home use but I eventually got to use it properly on stage at the 100 Club doing a charity gig about ten years ago. I couldn't get it past about one and a bit on the volume at home because it was so freaking loud. The ultimate earthquake in a box but it sounded awesome.

Me too. Was going to comment and then saw your comment. Bought mine about 1992. Still have it. I recall Laney did it as a 30w head back then too, with a nice cabinet. Not sure if it was a 2x12.

I guess Laney has saved up some pence to buy some marketing, or, as an alternative, finally came up with something else to market that is finally as good as the old stuff... seeing lots of channels with Laney content. Good on them, says I.
