Am I the only one who feels that strange sense of sadness when missing a time that did not even live. I was born in this century (2001) just 20 years ago, but for some scary reason, this beautiful song makes me feel like I lived through that time and I miss it soooo much that I think I'm an old soul. This song has a very unique ability to send you into a haunted state of nostalgia. The absolutely somber sound combined with the hopeful lyrics makes for an emotional outburst of beauty. I’m a 90s baby but feel like I’ve lived in the 60s more than once

I'm a '90s baby too and have been drawn to oldies music since age 10. As a teen I felt like I was born in the wrong decade. Music resonates a vibe, a complex energy. Trends come and go but some feelings are eternal. In the '60s this vibe was thick and overflowing everywhere. We've still got it in each of us, some more than others, but the 2020s mainstream is just out of phase with this vibe.

Well, well. Producers are not a recent invention. They have been around in one form or another for ages. Ever since the advent of the music recording industry. This song (as well as others by The Mamas and The Papa) was produced by a certain Lou Adler, who also produced recordings by Carole King, Janis Joplin, Barry McGuire, Johnny Rivers and Spirit. And as far as technology goes, Lou Adler used all the state of the art equipment that was available to him at the time. 1965, in this case, so no Melodyne or Auto-Tune... ;O)

Trust me you're not missing anything. This song is more of a reflection of the musicians than it is of California. They could've named the song Scandinavia Dreaming and you would have those same feelings you currently have of California, but instead theyd be about Scandinavia. -I've been in California my whole life. México has better beaches and weather. As well as culture. California is all about leftist identity politics. They treat you like a demographic (i.e. black/white, male/female, liberal/conservative) instead of getting to know you as an individual.
@AmikoNovich

@@patternsofconstruction267 well, if you live there - you know better. But a bunch of my favorite bands like SoaD and Linkin Park are from California, it have to be something here. Not to mention the climate, the view, the palm trees etc. Treating people depending on its group is common here too. If you're against the war, if you don't like our government, you aren't an orthodox christian or muslim, if you're not a big fan of "traditional" values (as government sees them), if you don't hate West and Ukraine - you will have a hard times with significant part of our population and they wouldn't care how good of a person you are. And, no, Scandinavia has a lot of great things, but it's too depressive and cold (not as much as my country, but close to it). And the 60s in USA were cool in general)

We didn’t realize how good we had it back then. Now I fear California has become a place I rarely recognize now. Too many people, too much indiscriminate development and too much pollution.

I noticed Jimi Hendrix in there as a cameo, do we know who the girl in the brown jacket and blue shoes is?
One of the deepest and spiritual ballads in human history 💙☮️❤️

You know the lyrics are "And I pretend to pray" right? Not at all "And I began to pray". It was cold and the church was a convenient place to warm up. Didn't want to get kicked out so "I pretend to pray". I'd hardly call anything about that song spiritual.

Mama Cass sang "began" on the actual recording - so anyone who says that they hear "began" on the record is correct However, Mama Cass was corrected (at at later date) by Michelle Phillips, who wrote that line of the lyrics; she told Mama that the word was "pretend". So, in a way, both are correct. kzread.info/dash/bejne/no6Kw9tqgrzHqqw.html
The word wistful comes to mind....
I was born in 64 and though I was very young growing up in the 60s, I can still feel it in my soul and remember things when I listen to this song and many other oldies. Brings back so many memories and a time that we will never see again. Having an older sister, I grew up submerged in this music. It’s amazing how this time period of music really hits me. I feel it inside.
All the bad and all the good, but not one of them can say their lives were boring. I can only imagine what it was like to see them live. Maybe from the Monterey Pop Festival. I wish I could’ve been there. One of my favorite bands.
When I travelled to California in mid 90s this song come up so many times on the car radio specially driving along the Pacific Highway it was amazing
I had to take a minute at 0:23. The light hair man looks just like a dear friend who recently passed away, so much so I thought it was him and this was a modern video..... Rest in peace Gabe... I hope you're California Dreamin'
Ver a Jimmy ser un oyente mas y verlo feliz...lpm como te genera tanta nostalgia una canción con la paz que transmitian esos artistas. Nunca volveremos a oir algo igual
There is something absolutely soulful and magical about this tune, especially its plaintive acoustic intro as well as its main vocal melody. Everytime I listen to this tune, it gives me a sense of longing for the past, even though I am a 90s kid through and through. Not to mention as a vocal arranger, those backing vocal harmonies that move in call-and-response with the main lead vocal never fail to amaze me.
I never wondered about America but this song caught my attention

The Song Is About California. Mainly Southern California Where The Weather Is Beautiful 🌞 🌞 Unlike The🗑 🗑 Weather In NY.
what an extraordinary moment. I wanted to experience it. I would have been a hippie, a drifter, always going to music festivals to make the most of my youth
Forever young mama's & papa's. Truly one of most classic songs of a generation. No one is making anything close to this quality anymore.
Michelle Phillips 😍😍😍😍
Это еще то время, когда страна верила в Иисуса Христа.
When i watch something like this, im trying to imagine what they felt like at that time and how they look back at that time. Then i realize i am the same age they were in and imagine what i will think when i am at their age and if i will be sad looking back, or not.
I wish I could experience the 50s and 60s, why did I have to be born in such a decadent time.
Mama Cass's beautiful voice really comes out
