The MAM Journals -Suzuki GSX-S1000 GT

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I was fortunate enough to get a test ride on the new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT, a bike I had been waiting to ride since its launch. What were my first impressions? Did I notice the difference in the engine performance to the GSX-S 1000 F? Is it a Sports tourer? What technology have they now put on the bike and is it helpful? In the video I comment that the bike has preload adjustment but it also has rebound , which I missed ! What were my conclusions?

Dude; as a 50-year rider from NY and semi-pro moto-journalist, I have to say this is one of the BEST "review" videos I have ever seen. Not only were you cool and goofy-relaxed, as I would try to be... your descriptions of the two bikes was honest, thoughfully-explained ...and huge. THANKS

The English motorcycle channels are just outstanding. You guys know how to properly review a motorcycle. Americans seem to talk about the buttons and the seat and then they read the specifications. They just don't give you an accurate account of the bike. Especially the ex-racers who now do streetbike reviews. There's nothing more inaccurate than a professional racer trying to review a street bike.

Thanks for watching ! I guess we all like to take and present our information differently . I try and make reviews that are like the ones I want to watch and rarely use GO PRO as I feel they can be more about the rider than the bike but we are all different 👍 Glad you enjoyed it . It is a great bike and I am hoping mine arrives in mid April 🤞

I did try one before committing to the Suzuki . Sadly I didnt have it long enough to film but hopefully will get one to film in the early summer . In short the sx was plusher , smoother and more refined but a bit bigger too, which didn't suit me or my wife . In one sentence ? The SX is a tourer that is sporty , the GT is a sports bike you can tour on. Have fun choosing 👍

I mounted a set of Hepco Becker panniers, bar risers, a touring screen, and a Saddlemen seat on my 2019 F model. The bike becomes a superb tourer with these few changes, and I find it extremely hard to justify the cost of trading it for a GT.

Good video and english humor hehe!! It really is what I expected...a general assessment without conditioning the brand as usual. I think that more than Gran Turismo it is a Sport Turismo. It brings back the memory of my veteran CBF1000F "without ABS" and a 160 rear tire weighing 242kg, but with a low center of gravity that made it an agile machine for urban use and it was possible to travel in relative comfort. (let's think it was a very veteran model). There are certain analogies between them, saving the differences of technical and mechanical advances, of course. There are some aspects that Suzi doesn't have... Dome adjustable in height, passenger seat / a somewhat small surface and perhaps the night lighting somewhat scarce from what I have been able to read in some test. They are essential conditions to travel. The rubber footrests are not a novel contribution, CBF already had them. For the rest, it seems that it adjusts to what the machine is focused on. A manual remote adjustment of the rear shock absorber would not have been practically more expensive, as well as the rest that I mention and would have provided a very important plus to take into account. Thank you for your video that I found very complete and enjoyable. Regards🤩 (Google translator text)

That is actually the GSX-S1000 GT Plus here in the USA with the panniers. GT without the panniers. Unfortunately we don't get that Triton blue color with blue wheels here, only the darker blue with black wheels and all black only. I have ridden the Ninja 1000SX and Ninja H2 SX SE+ . The electronic suspension on the H2 SX SE+ does make a difference in ride quality and it even has a centerstand which should be standard on all chain driven sports tourers. As for engine smoothness, I find that a K&N air filter spreads the power out in sportbike engines compared to the original stock air filter, and full synthetic oils like Mobil 1, Castro Power 1, and Motul 300V makes the engine run super smooth and cooler running. That might help the GSX1000F. If not, then a ECU flash would certainly fix it.

As a fellow GSX-S1000F owner, I really fancy one of these as it seems to have sorted the main issues of the bike. Cruise control/phone integration is a real boon on a long journey (I used to have a 2016 GS). I'm with you about the rear shock. I find the forks OK. My take on this bike is that it is a SPORTY tourer.

  • @michaelmam

Hi Conkerman . I view the GT as a sports bike that you can tour on and the the Kawasaki is a tourer that is sporty . The GT retains that "edgy" , sharpness that Suzuki are so good at whilst the Kawasaki is a plusher , smoother and easier bike that goes very well, if you ask. To me, mode B on the Suzuki felt like A on the Kawasaki . That said both bikes are far faster than I am! 😂

Another good honest review of this bike . I like it when people actually find faults as no bike is perfect . This style is not for me and I find it’s looks a little uninspiring…and the fairing and end can verging on ugly . however I’m sure it’s very capable bike and could tour easily .

Hi Andy . Hope you are well . I try to be objective and recognise that whilst all bikes have their virtues , none are perfect . Thanks very interesting, I also am looking at this bike for touring. I need to have a demo ride first. Interesting stuff.... How the litre class has changed. I am from the days when people struggled all year, commuting on a GSX-R1100 or FJ100 or VF1000, just so they could do Le Havre to the Bol d'Or quickly..... And get home quickly. Memories of queues of GB-registered machines on the tarmac at the ferry terminal..... This is quite a change. Probably a change for the better..... Although I imagine that these things rarely get used now for mad, flat-out runs to the Riviera. More's the pity. Nice video on what looks a nice bike (for a modern).

At 5’8” the Ninja felt too big for me ( 2 up) . The tank height is higher too so I felt I would be peering over a tank bag to read the separate sat nav required ? A bike for a bigger person so might suit you ? Technology and handle bar accessibility equally good on both . Have fun trying them ? Both great bikes 👍

I don't know, if your wife also tested the pillon sear position on the GT and can compare it to the Hayabusa Gen3, but this is what I would be interested in. I had the first GSX-S 1000 and my wife didn't like the passangers position on it which is / was understandable to me as we still have also the GSX1400 which is compare a sofa. But my wife accepted also the Busa Gen2 back seat when I've lowered the foot pegs. Now since last year I've the Gen3 and here the backseat is acceptable without any change (I've lowered the peg position for me as the rider). So can you (your wife) compare the GT with the Gen3 passangers seat position?

Hi Thomas , we have been out in the garage again and my wife's view is that the seat on the gen 3 is fine and easy to get on/off but that she is higher/ further away from me as a result of the more forward riding position for me , on the Busa. The GT has a more upright riding position. 👍

Hi Michael. Three months on I'm wondering. Did you ever get to test the Ninja? I'm in the position of considering getting a sports tourer and am currently tending towards the Kawasaki and would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi ! Good to hear from you . I have tried the Kawasaki but haven’t had one long enough to film it . I went for the Suzuki which actually arrived at the dealer this week and is currently with Nitron having some suspension fitted . I want a remote hydraulic preload adjuster and felt the standard rear was a little too basic for what I like . As I have said before I think the Kawasaki is a very well sorted , smooth bike that is very capable . A tourer that is sporty . The Suzuki is a sports bike that can tour . A bit more edgy and with a little more power and urgency. The Suzuki is a smaller bike and lower which I like and personally I found the Kawasaki a bit big , with a higher tank . Not sure I would have good vision of the instruments with a tank bag on - neither company advocate the fitting of top boxes as they are concerned about high speed weight stability but I see aftermarket boxes are available . Probably more of a legal product liability issue than a real world problem ? Personally I tried both and went Suzuki but a close call . Hopefully you can do the same . I will ask Kawasaki whether I can borrow one again and film it 👍

Great bikes no doubt but I'm coming to the conclusion that there is no need for all this power and definitely no need for half the tech and tft bs on bikes now, good suspension brakes lights riding position etc are what really matter, the public road is no place to explore what 150 bhp can do on a 200 kg bike.

#2 - SADDLE BAGS SUCK. I come from a time and era where "saddlebags" were for old crusty Harleys. NO ONE with any sort of Sporty bike from 1970 would be caught dead with saddlebags of any kind. I'm still in that school. I've toured in 13 countries and across the US numerous times, and I hate "saddlebags". I vastly prefer to have the weight in a cylinder behind me... rear seat/rack, with versatile bungees. 50 years / 400,000 miles.
