The MAM Journals- Ducati Monster S4RS.First Impressions.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
As I increasingly ride more upright bikes and, being a fan of the 998 Testastretta engine originally fitted to the 996r, , it was perhaps only a matter of time before I ended up with an S4RS.
Briefly touching on the first , 1993 M900 Monster , the video talks through the liquid cooled S4 range before focusing on the two 998 engined versions made between 2006 and 2008.
S4 Range
2001-2002 S4 - 916cc
2003-2004 S4R- 996cc
2006-2008 S4RS- 998cc- Ohlins Suspension. Based on the 999 engine.
2007 S4R Testastretta -998cc Showa and Sachs suspension
A static review that compares the bike with others of the same period . Virtually the last of the "high" power , no tech generation, what are they like to ride compared to modern, more powerful, technology enhanced bikes ? Museum pieces or still relevant today? My first impressions...

Thank you Michael . Very distinct bike . It wrote the script on its own .. 😂
I am lucky enough to own the same motorcycle as this. It’s a well balanced motorcycle with tons of power. I’m 55 so my speeding days are over. I have a single exhaust pipe on mine and to be honest, I think it sounds fantastic! My Dad had a Vincent Black Shadow so fair to say, I got my love of motorcycles from him. Great video Dave. Thanks for doing it.
Hi Michael I’m in Darwin Australia and I’m 44 and love watching your videos and I’m like a sponge about learning all things bikes , keep up the great content champ..🇦🇺👌🤙

Great video and an amazing bike - I use to own a Monster 620ie, then a Monster 1000Sie and now I own a Streetfighter 1098 which is I think the pinnacle of the pure raw Ducati bikes.

@@michaelmam The normal Streefighter1098 doesn't have traction control, only the S models had it. As I (only) have a normal 1098 I have zero electronics on mine. What I did with mine is that I focused on weight shedding. I've installed a Termignoni exhaust , removed the exhaust valve with the motor, swapped the battery for a lithium one, removed the rear foot pegs, swapped the showa/sachs suspension for Ohlins, changed most of plastics for Carbon Fiber parts and did some fine tuning with the ECU... the results are 157kg of dry weight and 165 HP... which is sort of crazy, as I have to literally fight the bike every time I twist the throttle, but well... I guess that's why it's called a Streetfighter...

Best S4R video available and spot on with the cautions. Well done, thank you
Once again Michael an informative and entertaining review; got a couple of Ducatis already (1199s Panigale & 1200 Multistrada Enduro (maddest of the big adventure bikes)) & really keen to add one of these. Thanks, even more keen now 👍
What a wonderful review! Really enjoyed the way you talk about the bike and what its like. I currently looking to buy one and your discription made me want one even more. Thanks

Great to have just discovered your cannel and excellent videos. Not sure how I haven't come across it before. I have the slightly less feisty but just as beautiful S2R 1000 and a 650 interceptor so now working my way through your other videos. Got me thinking about the big bore kit now for the 650.

Thank you so much. Most informative/interesting. If you have ever rode an 848 Streetfighter, or per chance are able to; I would sincerely appreciate your comparison of said machine with the 821/1200 Monsters. Thank you for your kind comments Simone . Glad you enjoy the videos as much as I enjoy making them ! I will keep my eye out for an 821/1200 to compare to the 848 👍
Years ago I had a 750 Monster and always thought the riding ergos were a bit weird - like my legs were on a sport bike but my arms were on a dirt bike and think it might have felt better with lower bars or even clipons. Gradually moved on to a ZRX1200 and I loved running hard through first gear, shifting into 2nd and feeling the front wheel rise up ever so effortlessly! Currently have a Ducati Scrambler 800 and it's not exactly exciting but it's ok I guess. Time to sell it!
Another fantastic video Michael, thanks! Congrats on the purchase, she looks a stunner. Coincidentally, I test rode a Monster 1200 a few months ago, but disappointingly it just felt too rabid for me (in full fat mode). Of course, I’m being a big girls blouse, but its a good point you made about no rider aids. In the end, and thanks to a dealer open day, I grabbed the keys to a Scrambler 800 Urban Motard, and absolutely fell for it, could really have some fun at sensible road pace. Did I buy it? No…I went for a Scrambler 1100 Tribute Pro! Not quite as scruff-of-the-neck as the smaller 800, but actually it meets my brief of having something I could feel in control of, not something that’s in control of me….I am no Mr Fogarty, after all (and not afraid to admit it)

Thank you David . Gradually learning how to make videos . A bit more involved than I thought initially but good fun . Ducati are pretty good at delivering Style and function , except their mirror department , which is invariably a victory of the former over the later 😂 I have thought about doing a comparison between a T100 and my Big Bore but will leave it a while . Feels like I have done a lot on the 865 and want to give everyone a break 👍
Love this bike. I have a 2007. I bought it used with a Tremi exhaust. How do I know if there has been an ECU update performed?
No wheelies for me (on that big gals, my wife would kill me b4 i manage 2 do it myself and i definitly would be able 2 do so :D), still a beautiful bike, thank you presenting it to us :) 👍

An S4RS 998 testa with termis and Ducati chip pulls about 133 at the back wheel on the Dyno for ref. ….
Great review Michael. We have very similar taste in bikes 😀 I once had an S4 (very long time ago) and now have the Z900RS. I forget what the S4 riding position was like. How does riding position of the S4RS compare to the Z900RS?
@michaelmam
2 жыл бұрын
The Z riding position is similar ie forward and open but with more bend in the arm . As you know I really like my Z .. such a good all rounder and so easy to ride . The monster is a handful but a different sort of fun 👍
119hp might be for the S4R since they share the same manual? Pretty sure a main difference is the S4RS had a 999 engine, whereas the S4R had the outgoing 998 engine. I might be wrong, but prove me wrong internet 🤘

@@michaelmam Michael no you were correct the stock bike is 130hp at the crank (150 with the termi kit). The stock headers are quite small due to packaging and the injectors are also smaller than a 999 due to lack of space. Also consider adjusting the ride height adjuster. A couple of turns raises the rear end to give even better turn in.

Hi i have had two of these machine one i bought new and a second one 3years old, the bike can be a hooligan i think the worst petrol consumption was 60miles riding the bike very quickly. The engine is too power for the chassis well-over speed limit they wobble so a damper is needed to control this i had a side ohlins fitted i had carbon wheels on the first one and it was a wheelie monster lift the front wheel in the first 3 gears most fun bike i have had. Its stiff suspension, plastic tank problems where my issues

It is a no joke, best know what you r doing before you ride motorcycle. Lastly it hates going slow and not the best for city riding.
