A short piece on the making of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System game Solstice. This was available exclusively on Hi-8 Cassette from CSG Imagesoft by mailing $3.50 for shipping and handling. I have never found any evidence online of anyone owning it, and I thought I had lost my copy in a house fire in 1992 until yesterday (4/29/2010) when I was beginning packing up to move to a new house. Especially interesting, at least to me, is hearing Tim Follin talk about doing the music, which is among the very best on the NES.

That's pretty cool to see the production of an NES game.
A must watch video for all Retro Fans.
Solstice: A new game to remember!
this really was an awesome game, and regardless of how badly this is produced, I'm glad I watched it.
damn this making of is a pandora box XD i didn't knew they do that ^^ happy to see that im huge fan of Tim Follin work him and Mike Webb are genius doing that game ^^
@OpticalHaze The music is incredible, but so is the game itself. To this day, it's still my favorite NES game, period. No Mario or Zelda title can compare. (:
so awesome that you posted this. I had no idea it existed. This is an all-time favorite of mine. The music is amazing.
The game was awesome, this video was awesome, and thank you for uploading it! I'm soooo glad that videos like these aren't being lost to time.
@skyrunner14 I ordered it from CGI Imagesoft. I don't remember for sure exactly where I got the order form, but it was quite easy to get if you knew it was there back in the day.

There's YTP material sprinkled all throughout these videos.
SOLSTICE....A NEW GAME TO REMEMBER.......SOLSTICE.....A NEW GAME TO REMEMBER......SOLSTICE......A NEW GAME TO REMEMBER
This rules and I am so glad that you posted it.
I remember watching my dad play this when I was ten and I always wanted to play it.
I never played this game - this video piqued my interest ask randomly got a copy of Equinox on the SNES as a young kid which I loved and painstakingly finished! A very retro finish, but it is certainly a lot more genuine and sincere compared to the sleek, corporate stuff we are exposed to today.
I have an old Evans And Sutherland 3d workstation tape I need to post, this reminded me of it.
@semiavrage Awesome! I'm glad I'm not the only person who enjoys stuff like this.
The only thing that I dislike about the game, is that you can't go to the end without having all 6 peices of the staff. That means it forces you to grab every peice. That is of course the goal of the game, but couldn't they have added a sad/bad endning? That has always sort of bothered me.
good stuff but it's really hard to understand what the people are saying because of the music, accents and low quality audio. subtitles would be great..
"SOLTICE... A NEW GAME TO REMEMBER..." Feels like they're trying to brainwash me.
Man, I loved this game growing up! One of the first ones I ever owned, actually. Where did you find this video?
I was wondering why the music so fast in this video, and then I realised I'm used to music from the slower 50hz PAL version. Ah, those were the (crappy) days. Still bitchin' music either way.
Hilarious stuff lol... the passage of time can make techie things so damn funny. and gotta agree with bockwurstification ... that "best brains" quote is the pinnacle, the jewel in the crown.
the music is much better than the game itself... respect to tim follin
Kudos to the documentary producer for spoiling the end of the game LOL
@bockwurstification I like how they pretend that the people that aren't three English guys probably working at MOST two rooms away from one another had anything to do with the making of this game other than funding or marketing it
Does anyone know if "Solstice" was ever converted to PC either officially or pirate ? This was easily the best game on the NES and I'd love to play it again !

Look for emulators (program that acts like a game console) and roms (the game files) on google :P pretty much all old games can be played that way. It's only legal to play roms if you have a physical copy of the game though.

Shaun Dreclin Actually, whether or not you own a physical copy of the game doesn't affect the legality of playing it on an emulator at all. However, since it's a way to preserve the games and no one is making money off of the game any longer, it is considered an acceptable practice by most people.
Sounds like someone is trying to brainwash me.
