I have a deep connection with the story. When I was a young soldier in Afghanistan over a decade ago, a good friend of mind loaned me this book. At first I was hesitant to read it because it was so thick so it simply became a pillow that I packed in my ruck. It became my companion while camped out on overwatch positions in the mountains overlooking gardez... as days dragged on, on long 30 day plus missions, I decided to crack it open and chip away at it slowly. The story of a guy stuck in a strange world- not knowing who the enemy was or who he can trust, just trying to survive... that really resonated with me, since I was often responsible for dealing with our afghan counterparts. I kept that book in a ziplock bag for months until I could return it to my friend. Unfortunately, I never saw him again, but the gift of introducing me to a good story, that could take my mind off the stress around me, that I'll never forget.

The work everybody did is commendable and will propel all of your carrers. I want another season 😂😂😂
Having Sanada as a producer gives me immense confidence in this project.
Shogun was written by James Clavell who was a prisoner of war under the Japanese during WW2. He suffered for 15 years of post traumatic disorders and health issues from his captivity from 1942 to 1945. How he had the focus and the will to pursue the formulation of the novel some decades later about a civilization that had brought him so much suffering and bringing it to life in a novel is an extremely challenging feat. I think by writing the novel Shogun it was some sort of a closure to his war and prison experience or perhaps a fixation that he would never be able to escape from.
I can’t wait for this. I need more Hiroyuki Sanada in my life.
Having just finished watching the 1980’s mini-series I can’t wait for this now!
I've read the book 10 times, and I only started to understand the subtle brilliance of James Clavell's epic work after the last reading. Can't wait to see how much of it made it into the series. There are awsome actors in this version.
this have the very best of japanese actors omg, i grew up watching these guys and are always entranced by thier characters this will be awesome

I read Shogun as a boy and it quickly became one of my favourite novels. Still have it to this day. I am so looking forward to this show!
Hiroyuki Sanada is such a legendary actor! I love the man and all his movies
I've been waiting for a truly remarkable adaptation of Clavell's novel for so long. This looks to be very promising. Even the gestures and the tea ceremony look very very authentic. Can't wait!!

I'm Japanese grew up in Japan, it is very interesting that the period focused on this drama series. The favorite samurai drama for most Japanese is probably before the time depicted in this drama, when the big 3 (Oda, Tokugawa, Toyotomi) were fighting to become the top. The period of this drama is very important, of course, but many Japanese are not too interested in this period because we know that Tokugawa is the family who reigned Japan for the next 270 years after this. I'm excited to watch it since it may give me a new perspective. (Btw Tokugawa is the Shogun played by Sanada in this drama.)

This novel was so important to me as a teenager, I read it countless times creating the film in my imagination. And then the Chamberlain series was produced and I loved it. This looks like it's going to be very exciting but also a very, very loose interpretation of the novel. I hope they preserve at least enough of the novel in this series to keep me interested. it's about politics, clan rivalries, ruthless plotting and betrayal, a corrupt church and a samurai lord looking for just one person he could trust on his way to fulfilling his karma. it's not about samurai battles. Mifune Toshiro had the presence absolutely necessary to portray Yoshi Toranaga and Shimada Yoko had the quiet subdued charisma to bring Toda Mariko to life. I'm curious to see what Sanada Hiroyuki and Anna Sawai bring to the characters. I can deal with disappointment, not heartbreak.
This show just keeps looking better and better! Ever since playing Ghost of Tsushima I've been waiting for a movie or series like this and the wait is almost over 👍
I'm reading the book for the first time in prep for this series, really enjoying it so far! Can't wait for this to come out

One of the best shows ever made. I can watch it over and over. Riveting. Beautifully made.
This will be my new favorite Samurai movie..
My only concern is the current state of movies and TV shows being made. Modern writers, for some unknown reason, want to veer away from the source material, which ruins the product. As long as they stick with the original story, this will be epic.
every frame is gorgeous.
Really looking forward to watching it. I have very fond memories of the book back in 76. What a great adventure! I hope this series does not destroy the story. Must have read it over a dozen times and I think this book is still on a shelf somewhere :)

I love ancient Japan movies and samurai movies and I know it takes place during feudal Japan but it's a work well done during the time and reign of the Samurai
Feels like so many people are sleeping on this show's release and I bet everybody's going to be surprised when it comes out. It looks absolutely amazing, well filmed, beautiful grading, it's made with love and that's for certain. There is no way it's not as good as it looks. This Shogun remake had huge shoes to fill & they crushed those shoes. Everything was superlative, but it was the cast that really brought it all together. The lead characters stand out but even all the supporting characters like Fuji & Buntaro were incredible. In this video at around @03:32 the actor Shinnosuke Abe who plays Buntaro talks about the 17th century period of Japan that’s the setting of Shogun. He is COMPLETELY different here than his portrayal of the stoic & brooding badass samurai Buntaro. This is a testament to his work. I mean his movements, gestures, voice & facial movements totally & completely contrast with Buntaro it’s like he is a totally different person. He really inhabited that role. This show should win several awards & also catapult many of these new actors into stardom. This show reminded us of what good tv & film used to be & can be when free of preaching, agendas & politics.
Love love love Hiroyuki ❤️ loved him in 47 Ronin. Great great actor😚 I know this series will be awesome 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

@@kamilgatarek6429 Why? She is of the samurai class, and it is well documented that many women of that stratum of society trained with the naginata. Indeed, so many samurai women trained with it that it became to be seen as a woman's weapon. Did they join the rank and file of common troops? No. Did they command armies? No. But in small numbers, samurai women did fight, mostly in defense of their homes and castles. You surely saw that she was standing at a gate in one of the cuts, and wore no armour, so they've put at least one of her combat scenes in the historical context where an armed woman would have been most likely to take up arms - defending against intruders. There's a wealth of historical evidence for this, to the point that there's a word for them in old Japanese - Onna-musho. Google it, there's a good article on it on Wikipedia.
