The amount of LGBTQIA+ representation in this show is such a gold standard. The coming out scene reminded me of how I came out to my parents last year. I came out to my parents the day before my 20th birthday and boy it was perfect. I can proudly boast to people that I have a mother like Sarah Nelson.

Same!! I very much relate to Nick being bisexual (and feeling the same about Pirates of the Caribbean lol) I’m very fortunate and lucky that my mom (and dad!) took it so well and were so understanding. So so happy that Heartstopper is out and able to help tons of people. Wish I’d seen this a couple years ago because I probably would’ve figured things out sooner in regard to my sexuality! Netflix’s Never Have I Ever is what motivated me to come out to my mom, we watched it together when one character came out to her mom and I felt ready and told her. I feel like I had my own Nick Nelson moment 2 years ago and it was very sweet. It’s so important to have representation and scenes like these because it can make the rest of us feel less alone. Can’t wait for season 2!! I’m hooked on Heartstopper❤️

It took my dad some time to accept it when I came out when I was 27 (I have a disability so I was still living with my parents at the time). He’s maybe not so much a Sarah Nelson because he asked me if it was just a phase I was going through because I was lonely. However, over the years he has changed his mindset a bit and he’s much more accepting of both me and my boyfriend (who I’ve been dating for 3 years). I feel lucky.

I don't know if Netflix realizes how lucky they got with Heartstopper! This is THE MOST SPECIAL SHOW!💗💜 The fact that so many ppl all around the world had similar reactions to it can tell u how this show was able to touch us in a way no other show or movie was able to ever. I still can't believe this was the first time a show made me feel like this. All the feelings n emotions n butterflies I used to love to feel came back but this time with optimism n hope of a happy ending or beginning. It finally allowed us to completely feel the emotions we used to repress. I said what everyone's saying- Why didn't it come out when I was in high school?! But I'm grateful for this show cuz it brought back (or gave us) the feelings we were robbed of years ago. I felt soooo good watching it! It took too long to happen but I'm grateful we got to feel this feeling cuz of Heartstopper.😌💗💜❤️💛 I'm so happy for the que er kids who'll get to see this n know that it's okay to dream about love n they deserve to be loved n be happy. Heartstopper is providing the optimism, that I know i didn't have when i was in school, to those kids. This show is always going to have a special place in my heart.💗💜

Them saying the importance of showing that two gay kids can grow up simply having a good time in media shows all the kids watching they can have that, is so amazing! Growing up with tv and movies always showing the queer characters as comedic relief or single, or drowned in trauma and tragedy made it so difficult to accept being queer and made it easy to accept any kind of love we got because we truly were never told or shown we deserved more or better. This show makes me cry so much realizing the young generations don't have to go through that and hopefully this inspires more tv and movies of just happy sweet fun queer stories full of diversity and representation.... thank you everyone for this amazing show!!

@@sandwich5697 very smart words. as a 14 yr old lgbt member i had to forcibly stop myself from watching the show 1. bc its not that realistic and is like an unhealthy escape 2. it just gets kinda depressing after awhile for myself. ik this sounds insane but my anorexia got worse after watching the show (and soon beginning the more serious comics) bc i feel like i could only have what charlie has if i relate to him more. so i feel like the show sets to high hopes for myself and gets me to hurt myself bc i think i can reach those goals. ik that was kinda a vent but this show brought so many positives and negatives to me ive tried to steer myself away from it. too good to be true i guess so. :(:

The fact that I have already seen Heartstopper six times is not different from the reaction that this production has had in the whole queer community, but if I tell you that I am in Bogota; and that I am 67 y.o. This shows that it has affected far beyond the original target. I wish I had something remotely like this when I was growing up. In my case, it was at the movies that I realized I was gay in 1968 attending a function of Camelot when I fell head over hills with Franco Nero and his character, something that I keep as a secret for like ten more years, that is why I liked that scene where Nick and his mother are choosing a movie to see and Nick pass his eyes so slowly from Keira to Orlando, that scene that nobody has commented so far made me cry like for the thousand times when I first saw the series. Thank you to Netflix and everybody in the production; The Director, the author, the set designers, the creators of the doodles, the music, and the cast, especially to Kit and Joe.

I'm an out & proud 55 year old queer cisman, who grew up in a strict, homophobic Mormon family in Los Angeles and was in high school during the 80s AIDS epidemic. Just like that film's LGBTQ consultant, I too was robbed of the experience of seeing LGBTQ love stories. I was sent to conversion therapy and programs where they taught us how to be straight... Play sports, ask out girls, etc. We were told that if we married a woman we'd be "cured". The whole thing was so abusive, that I suffered years of depression and was often suicidal. On top of that, my entire family shunned me, for 20 years now. They refuse to reconcile, but I don't want them back... I've found a family of friends who love me for me. ❤️ Because of all that trauma, his show has meant SO MUCH to me! I've watched it over & over & it feels so right. I still cry every time... Hell, I even cry just thinking about scenes from it! It helps me MOURN what I've lost & never had, but it's incredible beauty, art & love ALSO helps me HEAL with every viewing. It gives me hope for LGBTQ youth & also the possibility that I'll find my own Nick or Charlie. It will ALWAYS be a favorite program, and I'm SO grateful for Alice, Euros, Kit, Joe, Olivia and ALL the rest of the outstanding cast, dedicated crew & Netflix for bringing me something I never knew I needed, but has meant SO MUCH to me! (and seriously, Kit Connor deserves an Emmy!) Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 ♥️💚💙💛💜

Thank you for sharing your story, it made me tear up!! I feel so lucky to be 15 and queer in this generation, because even though I still get bullied at school some, at least I can have the representation in shows such as heartstopper. So glad heartstopper is giving you comfort, and that you have found YOUR REAL family.

The reason why I love heartstopper so much is because I can truly relate to their story (especially Nick's side), this show really gave me joy and hope into discovering myself more and being free to who I truly am. I hope this gets a season 2 bec I've read Alice's books, volumes 4 & 5, and it tackles issues people can relate to

I've seen heartstopper five times in the last week, and I'm confident that I'll keep watching it whenever I have free time. This was the first series about which I became hooked, which is unusual for me because I've never preferred series' to movies. For the past 15 years, I've assumed I'm straight, but watching Heartstopper has me torn about my sexuality, especially because of Nick Nelson; I'm not sure if I want to be friends with him, be with him, or BE HIM. Something about Nick's coming out scene makes me feel strangely relieved, as if I completely relate to him questioning if he's bi. I'm not sure why I'm venting in a public comment section, but I'm grateful for this series, and who knows, maybe in a few years I'll realize that I really am bi. Enough with the drama, I'm hoping for a Season 2, I've already finished the webtoon in one sitting and listened to Alice Oseman's other works!

As a graphic novel reader, the show still amazes me until this very moment. It amazes me how well-adapted the book is, how well-translated each element from the book is. The depiction is just very well-pictured, the cast are AMAZINGLY on point, everything is perfect! I'm on my 4th time rewatching the series and it just doesn't get old. It's such a grower, the more I watch it, the more I love it. Thank you for making this series ❤️❤️❤️

I wonder if something like this had been available to me as a teen in the early nineties, maybe I wouldn't have waited to come out until I was nearly forty. This show and all of the beautiful people involved has begun to heal me in ways I didn't know were possible.

Watching this made me so emotional. A show about LGBTQ+ people made by LGBTQ+ people is one of Netlix's highest rated shows ever. It's very bittersweet for me because being a 31 year old gay man, I didn't have this kind of representation on-screen growing up. To see such a positive, uplifting show about two boys falling in love, and one coming to terms with his sexuality makes me so happy that young LGBTQ+ people are starting to get more and more representation. Such a wonderful show.

I watched this series and felt every emotion possible throughout the scenes, but mostly, I felt not only seen, but understood. Everything felt real, and true to my own experiences and that's MAJOR to me, it wasnt mostly bad, it wasn't focused on the bullying, but the thought process we feel being a part of the community, the times we second guess or emotions and what to do, but also slowly accept it. It encapsulates everything I've ever felt in regards to love, and accepting myself. And I am so glad I found it. I didn't sleep the evening I found it, I was so engulfed, I felt pure joy, sadness, compassion, sympathy, and most of all, understood. I cried, several times, and cheered several times too. The cast was picked perfectly and their roles depicted well. Really, thank you for making this. ❤️ I can't wait for season 2,3,4,5 +

It brings me incredible hope for tomorrow. At the same time, those tears were a bit bitter and sad. I wish I had this, I wish the boy I was had seen this and felt safe. Felt seen. Either way, a big thanks to the cast & crew for creating such an amazing piece of media & art honestly. Thanks.
