Stumbled upon this video cause I want to shoot some video with my 400mm. Im more of a photographer then a videographer. My ears perked up when you mentioned The Wire because my cousin starred on it as Deangelo Barksdale. (Lawrence Gilliard Jr) ;-) Cheers..

My footage using my telescopic has been coming out blurry but I realize now it’s probably because I’m going handheld. I’ll definitely use my tripod next time!

Super valuable insight. The Wire is one of my favorite shows, especially that scene with Stringer and Avon already both having betrayed each other, made more powerful by understanding the shots composition. Thank you!

This is great. I learned this instinctively I guess. I shoot cars and car reviews and used to shoot as wide as possible but started shooting at longer focal lengths to get my reflection and shadow out of the shot but noticed I liked the shots much better. Now I shoot everything between 80 and 105mm until I get inside the car.

I added a Canon FD f/2.8 200mm and FD f/4 300mm for my Sony FX30. A study tripod and a balanced camera rig are essential. I love shooting with long lenses and thinking of adding the Canon FD f/4.5 400mm.

Love having a long lens in my bag. I shoot lots of events and training so being able to grab a long lens lets me get shots that no one else can. I keep telling all my contemporaries they should look into something 400mm or long. They tell me it is not needed, then they ask how I get some of the shots I do. Well...

@@Crimsonengine i want your help... I love this sort of compression in my vdo. In my vdo i just stand and talk. My priority is back ground blur. I use apsc canon 200d. So my question is which 70 200 lense should 8 choose? Because there is 600% of price difference. Thanks in advance. Love your lighting setups in your vdo.

2:25 I call this optical compression. I think Steven Spielberg likes a 50mm lens the most. He feels it the most like the human eye. I agree

It's interesting that this persists, but human stereoscopic vision isn't really ~50mm. If you have 20/20 or greater vision, observe a scene in space and how much of the periphery you actually take in (even males, who have less peripheral visual capacity than females), and you'll see that a "normal" lens would be closer to ~40mm, or wider. That said, I still really like this video! Great information.
