I'd like to think this is AEG!Thomas discovering his origins. He went on an adventure through time (cos why not at this rate lol) and found on his travels that he is the latest incarnation of a legendary figure, finding the one-before-last in this state. What AEG!Thomas makes of this I can't say, but I doubt he'd delight in the fate of his former self. He'd probably be proud and boastful of his legacy, but not to the point of enjoying the downfall of his former selves.

There’s something about the opening shot that makes it feel different, it’s familiar of what it should be but it’s so different it’s almost unrecognizable (that can also apply to the rest of the shots of Thomas’s Branchline). It feels like all the life and magic from it has been sucked out until it’s nothing but a hollow shell
This feels depressing to watch. Mattel just cares more about making money and making the press happy that this E2 tank engine’s legacy. Reverend Wilbert Audrey would be furious at Mattel if he were around today. Although in this world, George and Bulgy would be over the moon.

George really was not joking when he said when he was turning the rails into roads..
Reminds me of the description part of "The Island's Swansong"; a fanfic found in Wattpad that describes Sodor's decline and abandonment "The Magic is Gone. Their Universe has been forgotten. The adventures of the engines on the Island of Sodor have captivated generations of children. But as their market success strayed further from the truth, and with the world around the Island changing, the final adventures of the engines of Sodor were lost to history." "In a different world, where society has moved on from steam and diesel engines of old, one urban explorer makes a pilgrimage to the lost, deserted Island, hoping to uncover what happened to the famous engines. I personally think they’re facing away from the camera
Again I think the use of an old CRT of the TV shows era, sat atop a pile of dirt and metal really just kind of shows how the show has been a warm hazy memory for a long time now. The world has moved on. There’s only really two or three generations that remember Thomas on TV in the way we do, Thomas on the eyes of the public was a show in the 80’s, then the laughing stock of the internet, and now one of many pawns of an american toy conglomerate. Certainly far from the British countryside, I’ll say. I’m just glad Thomas is remembered by those who remember him, even if his owners seem to neglect a majority of the work done by hundreds of people over the 25 years of model style episodes. Hopefully a new generation will fall in love with the world of Sodor someday, and if not, the memories of warm summer days on the railway are always there.

This is a great video because it shows a realistic look at what happened to so many railway lines once the advent of trucking started to take over business. So many tracks were torn up and converted to trails or roads with jobs lost and communities left without rail service.
@thunderbird1921

And often times, when the rail lines die, the communities along it often slowly die as well. That's at least what happened in the US between 1960-80, rural areas in many places never recovered. It was DEVASTATING. And worst is, few of our leaders even gave it a second thought.

Damn, that's a really morbid watch seeing our beloved Ffarquhar branch line removed and forgotten about. Just hurts to see. The cinematography captures that pain perfectly. Weird but interesting inclusion of the wind turbines. It definitely paints an image of "progress", but not in the same destructive way of the roads being built and ripping up the rails. It's a very different from the elements that mirror the Dr Beeching branch line axings of the 60s. Side tangent but I'm sure if they books continued, they would have added them on Sodor.
The part of this that’s really sad for me is that it mirrors what happened in real life to many of these places where there’s so little left of what used to be
This video was so surreal the opening shots reminded me of how much of North American 🇺🇸 looks like all car centric, gray and colorless and run down. as for the ending I think aeg Thomas wasn’t so much as proud but rather empty inside he looked like he was saddened because he knew what the original Thomas meant to people and what he represented. A time long since forgotten but the magic isn’t gone as long as people through out the fandom still remember it and persist to keep it alive someday the magic will come back stronger than ever

Nothing I try to turn my attention to can make me ignore it. I don't know the best way to describe this, the closest I have is: I got broken in a way. It's incredibly sad what corporate greed has done to this beloved franchise. But for me - the magic will never be gone. The endless hours of watching early season VHS tapes as a kid will never be looked at as anything other than magical. The fact that we still have all of the other seasons available to us is such a wonderful thing. The magic will only ever be gone if *we* let it disappear. Once in The Island of Sodor, all engines live happily and working hardly with Sir Topham Hatt leading the Railway. But as time passes, everything changed, as all engines are being scrapped, and replaced by Cartoony Engines that seems to last forever. The Magic of Sodor is no more, and the only thing that’s still alive is the place where “All Engines Go”. What caused this, is that someone at a certain Toy Company who produces diecast cars and plastic dolls must be responsible for this, after the buyout of this place we all know and love.

If he's lucy, a month from now, best case scenario - Thomas is a jumble of metal in a scrap-yard in Sodor. This is brilliant! Matches the destruction of the UK's railways by crooked Ernest Marples and his lapdog Dr Beeching with the typical gold-digging, drive-it-into-the-ground approach of Britt Alcroft and Mattel when it comes TTTE and these sorts of IPs. It's surreal seeing some of the key Thomas intro-shot locations re-imagined as car parks and lifted tracks.

Harold Wilson's government actually did most of the closing of railway lines recommended by Beeching despite having pledged not to. You mourn the loss of the S&D and Great Central? Blame Barbara Castle for signing off on closing them. Perhaps in hindsight, nationalising the railways post war was a mistake. No nationalisation, no motive to reduce losses for the taxpayer which is why Beeching was asked to do his report in the first place.
La Magia se Perdió,por un Reinicio que Fallo (Esa Frase si me salio Bien :D)
Absolutely stunning. Great choice of music, important very heavy words, and even heavier images. I don't believe we've seen the end of the thomas franchise but only the online community that loves the stories and classic show so much is what keeps it going. Well in the future, they will replace railways into roads. For example, the trucks are replacing freight trains because they’re cheaper and easier to deliver things. Buses and cars will too

Shed 17: are you challenging me?
Thomas was one of those shows I watched when I was REALLY young, and around 6-8, I just kinda stopped watching it. Never hated it, just stopped watching. I was never really into trains, but I still enjoyed the stories! Thomas and the Magic Railroad is one of my favorite movies! A lot of people complained that Thomas shouldn’t have Magic, but they’re talking trains! A lot of people think Thomas fell off after it, but I still enjoyed those episodes up until the CGI era. The original episodes with the trains not moving their faces had so much charm. Now they’re going for the cartoon route…it’s a shame how corporate it’s become. This show was never the most popular show in America, but a lot of people grew up with it. It’s sad seeing how it turned out
The first shots are the realistic ending of the RWS.
Absolutely fascinating video! A good representation of the current generation indeed. I'd like to see more of these. Perhaps wondering what the rest of Sodor and Thomas's branchline looks like in this universe.
