@@emilydadsrobloxadventure824 Actually - and I don't mean to be rude - her voice is not what it once was. She's only in her early 50's, and she doesn't seem to go above high C sharp anymore - and even that note sounds precarious and harsh. I'm not expecting her to still have the Queen of the Night in her repertoire, and I'm not saying that she is not a good technician, but for whatever reason, her top has become unstable. Other great coloraturas such as Devia, Sutherland, Gruberova, Jo, and Anderson were all still able to sustain high E flat on stage in their early fifties, but Damrau's voice - unfortunately - has proved shorter lived. But yes, she was a fabulous singer at her peak.

As a pro ballet dancer in a different life, I can say that what impresses me most about this video of Diana Damrau is her movement quality. She really moves deliberately and slow to allow the audience to capture the scene with their eyes. Younger dancers and performers often move too fast. The voice is amazing, of course, but the total quality of her performance and movement make this over the top good.

Yup, a great opera singer must be the whole package (singer, actor and dancer)...the voice is absolutely the most important part, but it's nothing without the other two parts.

One time in kindergarten, two of my teachers showed my class this aria. They never did that again as it resulted in an entire room full of small children screaming in an attempt to hit the high notes.

Mozart wrote it for soprano Adriana Ferrarese Del Bene who was known for raising her chin up during high notes and down when reaching for low notes. That's why this aria has a lot of high notes and low notes one after another. It was meant to make her look kinda like chicken while singing. Mozart was such a troll lol

So he wrote this piece exactly to show off her strongest points. The piece he wrote to diss someone was from Cosi fan tutte. This is a masterful performance, in the excellent singing, acting, control and staging. Her acting really stuns you, and the lighting and effects make this dark, powerful, and human as her emotions go from vengeance to a mother's concern, and it's an ensemble scene as the other singers are duly stunned, and Pamina is torn. Damrau's eyes and motion are truly hypnotic. The aria is, some have said, like a bird singing; a contrast to Papageno's cheerful, hopeful bird song. Here the bird becomes a dark raptor. It's a contrast between dark and light in this glorious opera. Just magnificent.

Honestly if i had a voice like that, I'd yell at my kids the same way too.

The Queen of the Night aria is said to be the most difficult to sing and Diana just nailed it. Not just with her voice but her acting too. Her performance makes me feel genuinely terrified of her. Diana Damrau is a force of nature. Bravo!

It's from heaven. What a gift Mozart has given us and in many of his other works. I'm here after watching Amadeus again for the first time since the 1980's.

So unbelievably beautiful! So perfect! And those notes weren't hit with a machine, that was all natural talent!

That literal Goddess is singing a piece meant to convey pure, unadulterated, all-consuming rage, blasting one of the highest notes a human throat can produce a couple meters from your face with a body language that speaks of restrained wrath while saying "If you don´t kill this man, you shall never again be my daughter". Even for someone without acting skills, acting distressed should not be hard.

Andrew Jones - I could hardly wait to read the comments about this performance, which was astounding. Her grimaces and body language were La Damrau's interpretation of the character of the Queen of the Night. The entire presentation - the make up and the hair, the costume and the set, but most of all the voice. I can't imagine anyone who could perform this character as well. I would love to see a film of La Deutekom singing it. She is a very talented soprano as well.

Hey I wrote a spanish opera, I uploaded the song 'pajaro' i wrote high c into it 3 times cause I wasnt thinking I had written the melody for piano originally, but it worked good

She blows my mind every time. And in such bad times....makes me feel like there's something beautiful in this world still.

Such a chilling performance for such a dark piece. I can almost feel the anger and hate pouring from that voice.
