I enjoyed ex3 but it did feel rushed. I enjoyed ex1 on the ps1 the most I would play it for hours to unlock characters, the mini game was fun and it was the first street fighter game to have trials for each character. Street fighter 4 was definitely influenced by the ex series from the focus attack, trials for each character and other things.

I bought EX3 the same day since I already won a copy of Tekken tag and knew my friends where going to be getting both. Aside from not having Akuma (they had evil Ryu and you could give Ace Akuma's moves) EX3 was easliy the best SF EX game.

Sadly one summer, I let a girl I was interested in dating borrow the game. We never dated, and she claimed it got broken the next week. Double loss for me. I was always sad that it didn't get it's spotlight recognition. Whenever I would hear reviewers say, "Street Fighter 4 was the first 3D SF game," I would lower my head with sadness at their lack of exposure to these games. SFEXa, 2, and 3 will certainly be on my list of future titles to own in a retro collection.

I did get a chance to play this. As someone who enjoyed the previous EX games, EX 3 was essentially the crown jewel of the series. The EX series was a much more forgiving way of getting into Street Fighter, with very easy inputs and simple to do, but visually spectacular (at the time) combos. I think the lack of an arcade version was also detrimental to its success. Yes, arcades were starting their downward trend, but in 2000, competitive fighting game tournaments were still largely being played in arcades. EX 2 got a pretty decent release in Malaysia, my part of the world, and it was by far the most popular of the trilogy in the arcades. But the lack of online play, and coming out not long after games like Garou: Mark of The Wolves, SF3 Third Strike, Capcom VS SNK, The King of Fighters 2000 and Marvel vs Capcom 2 just kind of killed its chances.

My first PS2 games were Street Fighter EX3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Virtua Fighter 4, and Dead Or Alive 2. Out of those, I played SF EX3 the least. I should probably dig it out of storage sometime...

I used to rent Street Fighter EX and Rival Schools United by Fate when I was like 11 years old. I had forgotten both existed until recently going on what has now been a year long non-stop Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter kick.

There was a forgotten street fighter 3D game that featured Nash. It was only in arcades. That would have been really great to have played alongside this game.

Couldn’t agree more with what you said about Tekken Tag Tournament outshining this game. I liked the EX series as a whole but EX3 was my least favorite. I owned both EX3 and Tekken Tag on my ps2 at the same time in 2000, and TTT was definitely way more fun and fulfilling to play at the time. Everything from the roster to the soundtrack to the stage designs to the final boss and those brief character endings gave TTT a hugeeee edge over EX3 in terms of personality and player enjoyment.

My 2 brothers are 8-10 years older than me and I remember always beating them with this game. We got it for the PS2 and man we played the heck out of it. This is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Diverse roster with unique skill set and the music oh man the music is so BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish they continued with EX4 instead of fighting EX layer.

I still have my old PS2 copy of Street Fighter EX3. I didn't get my copy until of the game around my High School years 2004-2008. I had tons of fun playing it, to me it didn't feel rushed. I would play Original Mode and Team Battle for hours and play around in Training Mode getting used to some of the characters.

I got the game back when it was released. I didn't really care for it. I like fighting games with personality. The gameplay was original/ well done, but the characters in Street Fighter EX3 just felt like functions. I like character voice acting, intros, win posses, taunts, win quotes, and being rewarded with endings when I beat a game. It seems simple, but those things help establish a connection with the characters. Street Fighter EX3 is lacking in the personality department.

I'm curious why I or my friends weren't consulted with the making of this video... Having brought this game to many tournaments at the time I had a lot of information as to why the game didn't get much of a scene. EX3 came out at launch because Sony wanted a Street Fighter title at launch for the PS2, which Capcom wasn't able to do so they passed the responsibility to ARIKA to finish. That concluded the contract between Capcom and ARIKA and was why there wasn't a fourth EX game, and soiled the relationship between Capcom and ARIKA. In that sense, the game was rushed when it came out in Japan, and when it was ported over to NA and EU they had a chance to fix many of the bugs that plagued the JP release. The game had small scenes in the USA in some locations (SF, NJ, and Chicago), but was more popular in South America and the Caribbean. I brought the game to several tournaments over the years. And most of the scenes didn't care about a 3D SF game at the time. Though, those that tried it did seem to like it and were interested in playing more and other scenes were growing as a result in GA and TN. The most common complaint that I had heard during those years is the lack of a run/dash feature when those players did try it out for the first time. Tekken was a more popular 3D fighter at the time too. Having sold over 4 million units whereas EX3 only sold around 187 thousand units. It did technically outsell MvC2 and CvS2 on the PS2, however, most of the scene were playing those games on the DC and not the PS2 as the DC ports were more faithful to the arcade version that the scene was based around. Anyway, I'm obviously biased by looking at my u2b channel. Lastly, while the first two EX games did get a following later on. A major role in that was emulation and online play brought about by emulation. PS2 emulation lagged behind PS1 and was very slow for a long time, graphical glitches as seen in this video with Sakura's missing skirt and online play lagged behind even more.

When this came out to the ps2 I kept thinking it was a shame that it couldn't look better but I still grabbed a copy cause I wanted to do that mode where you get to fight dozens of dumb enemies at once. I always wanted street fighter to have a double dragons style beat em up mode. Only other game that came close to giving me that was Cannon Spike.

Kaira was a sharp and fun character to play with at the time. Ex3 is underrated. The audience just wasn’t there at the time, if it were released a couple of generation consoles later I think this game would’ve caught fire. Online gaming gave fighting games life again.

Is this also the Mandela Effect? I never knew EX3 existed. I was also subscribed to half a dozen gaming magazines at the time, and somehow I don't ever recall so much as a brief preview, let alone a review. I always wondered why they never released a part 3. I could've also sworn EX2 was fought in a completely 3D world, as opposed to just 3D renderings of characters and backgrounds... or did I imagine that as well? And until recently, I thought Capcom should resume the EX series. But now that I'm looking at the 2D gameplay of 3D characters and backdrop, I suppose SF4 and 5 are spiritual successors.

The EX series over all was never able to hold it's own against it's brother and sister titles. It never felt right. The movement, the impact of attacks, everything felt off. I played all of them back in the day but never saw a reason to go back to the EX.

This was one of the first games I got for the PS2 though I got it a few weeks after getting Tekken 4. A game store was having a by two get one free sale, and this was cheap enough to be a free game option for me plus I had fond memories of playing the first two games at other people's houses (I never owned a PS1 skipping straight from the SNES to the PS2)
