My Grandfather was an iron worker in Seattle and worked on many of the high rise buildings. Some of the photos he took are beyond breathtaking. Going to work every day 10 hours per day in all types of weather and wind doing what he did for 30 years is absolutely astounding.

In honor of all the men whom put thier lives on the line and lost their lives to build the Mackinaw Bridge. 🙏❤
Never gets old crossing this bridge.
This is a important piece of American History. It shows our enginenuity, know how, and the guts to do the job. DQ.
Its such an awesome feeling crossing the "Mighty Mac"
A marvelous testiment to the brilliant mind of designer Dr. David B Steinman & the brave workers who made it a reality.. & of course the Mackinac Bridge Authority who maintain it today.
American!!!! Love it...im a concrete finish, I've worked on a bridge and I love watchn this!!! American engineering!!!
IVE BEEN ACROSS THIS BRIDGE('02) &THE ISLAND ON THE OTHER SIDE IS 'OUT OF TIME', NICE PEOPLE
I drove over the bridge in 2013 when my mom and her husband got married on mackinaw island. I was looking at the bridge the whole 2 days I was on the island, so when I was leaving I had to drive across the bridge first, And I never knew I had to pay a toll on the way back lol but it was totally worth it! Plus I didn't have much choice cuz how else would I have gotten back lol. But I had to drive across because I love bridges and the way they're constructed especially over water blows my mind!
I first drove across this bridge in Nov. 1966. It's impressive.
For the time, an engineering marvel. Just think, no computers, no cell phones, just old fashioned ( by today's standards ), technology... and it's still standing.
I grew up in Michigan and am old enough to remember the ferry rides we took in the summer to reach the Upper Penn. So, we were among the first to cross the next summer, after completion, on the bridge.
The bridge is Magnificent! A true feat of man
Impressive beautiful bridge. Crossed it a few times. The view at sunrise and sunset from the bridge is amazing. 6 hours from my Indiana home.

I did this kind of work for a few years, glad I did it, good times.
I grew up and live 15 miles south of it. Tip of the mitt. Beautiful , if you dont mind our winters.
More American Heroes hard at work God bless all our heroes amazing
that bridge and island have a lasting memory in me from childhood was really amazed and love my family trip to area and upper michigan . very immpressive structure .
My grandpa worked on this bridge
I was born and raised in the U.P. but my parents were both trolls, so all the relatives lived below the bridge. In June of 56 we moved to Alaska for 4 yrs when we returned mom was all excited to see the new Bridge, it was under construction when we left. I remember dad just hating to pay the 5 dollar toll fee to cross. Yrs later as an adult I realized that the average wage was something like 1.25 an hr in 1961 so that was like 4 hrs of work to pay that fee! Youch! Today I maken20 dollars an hr so the equivalent would be like 80 dollars to cross. No wonder dad hated that fee. I rode with him in his semi truck in May of 1974 across the bridge. Cost 22.00 dollars

My boyfriend was an ironworker who was part of the crew who maintains the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. He worked at unbelievable heights secured only by a cable to his waist. Yet he was terrified of carnival rides because he wasn't the one in control. LOL
Very interesting. Brave and skilled manpower

anyone walking on a catwalk of fencing that high to build the bridge has some big kahunas.

5 died constructing this bridge
No such thing as MANUFACTURERS RECALLS back then!
With the "work from home" generation of today, we may never see such projects constructed by American born citizens. The labor force would need be imported.
It would take Democrats a million gabillion thousand dollars and it still wouldn't be finished because the money would disappear into consulting firms they started. Cali is a perfect example.
American-made. Documentary produced by the British.
This was before Unemployment benefit era .
Hmm...I don't see any strong, independent women building these bridges.

What an incredible job and achievement. I wonder if they had proper ratio of races on that bridge. If diversity hires played role in that clearly white privilege job.
