My m18 has a special place in my heart, first cordless drill I ever owned. Bought it with my first paycheck from my first hvac job. Upgraded to the fuel surge a couple yrs ago, love it.

The sound difference is really noticeable when its hammering. They claim the surge is 50% quieter, after using one for 2yrs, it really is.

It really is! Definitely not something you’d want to use installing a deck, it’d take forever compared to the non surge.

Hello from France ! I just discovered your vid, and I' was surching information to choose behind surge and no surge, and ... You tell me all what I need to know !! ( And I'm kind of your humor !!;-)) Thanks a lot ! So , I'll get a Surge , for sure, but it's very difficult to find it at good price, in France, so I'm looking to Amazon Us or E bay Us ( but the shipping cost ...!!) Anyway, very pleasant vids, (and I subscribe) John Christopher

We do plumbing and we love the surge, we don't need as much power to drive big nails as a carpinter only small screws to strap the pipes to the framing and the surge does a fantastic job, it doesn't bounce off the screw and it feels less jerky. We have the m18 and m12 surge

Have both as well. The surge quickly became the tool of choice. As you stated when using all day there is a noticeable hand fatigue difference. Thanks for your post it was interesting listening to a different perspective.

I have both of them, but I really love the Surge because it’s a lot quieter and it feels a smoother. I know the other one is more powerful, but I’m really don’t need all that extra power. And if you’re doing cabinet installs, you’re better off with the M12 Surge because it’s a lot smaller and easy to manipulate. Plus, it’s pretty much just as powerful (or powerful enough for installing cabinets).

Thanks for the input! I 100% agree, the m12 would be much nicer. I currently don’t own it…yet. With a smaller form factor, and less fatigue with weight alone, it’s be a great option for someone constantly using the tool!

I love my surges. The power delivery is very different and sound difference is night and day. The only negative I’ve had is out of all the Milwaukee M12 and M18 I own it’s the only one I’ve had to warranty. Once in m12 and once in m18. It would make all the noises but had no ass. Both times the same way randomly. Not after a drop or anything.

Maybe in your application you should try the m12 surge, I have both the m18 surge as well as the m12 surge. I have only used the m12 surge in a working day

That’s a good thought but the DeWalt set I had was bought 10 years ago and they were the small 12v versions. I’ve really just limped them along, plus, the m-18 batteries would be completely oversized and heavy. I’m sure your suggestion would be helpful to someone reading the comments! Good thought though, I appreciate it.

This video makes the DeWalt 850 a super champion 🏆 at under 4" , no vibration, 150 ft lbs . Powerstack battery 🔋 the new 961 impact wrench has a Vtech type mode. DeWalt is just killing it. And the 3 modes will set your screws very easily
