Didn't they sell up and move on? Already at the point In the story when mention was made of 110 acres, I already knew why Mr Gilbert had to die. And why they had the gall to imprison a widow in fresh grieving straight after. I suspect she was also destined to exit the jail house in a body bag. And the syndicate that orchestrated the arrest and murder, from the town leaders at the helm all the way to the officer acting in self defence, already knew how they would split the proceeds of sale. Of course, I've been watching too much True Crime TV. 🤢

I cannot stress enough how crucial it is for our elders to pass on our oral history. And for the younger generation to be respectfully persistent enough in obtaining this. Especially as sociopolitical and cultural barriers have limited usual methods of documentation and archiving. Not just the good, but the bad and the ugly. Fairy tales are for that warm cuddly feeling. The Heroes' journeys are for inspiration, reconciliation and healing. We should encourage our reticent elders, the repositories of these narrations, to overcome the darkness and gut wrenching intergenerational humiliation that has kept these nightmares internalised. To pass on this oral inheritance that money cannt buy once they're gone. I believe the documentation of, and accessibility to these truths will form an important piece of the jigsaw of the healing of America. On a positive note, what a beautiful couple Mr and Mrs Gilbert were. It was his exquisite presence, physically, financially and mentally that his cowardly murderer smashed to a pulp like a deranged thug trashing a sacred collection of art, fuelled by neanderthal spite and foaming at the mouth.

Let's not forget Mr. Byrd...This happened in 1998.... June 7, 1998, Byrd, age 49, accepted a ride from Shawn Berry (age 23), Lawrence Brewer (age 31), and John King (age 23). Berry, who was driving, was acquainted with Byrd from around town. Instead of taking Byrd home, the three men took Byrd to a remote county road out of town, beat him severely, spray-painted his face,[18] urinated and defecated on him,[19] and chained him by his ankles to their pickup truck before dragging him for about three miles (five kilometers). Brewer later claimed that Byrd's throat had been slashed by Berry before he was dragged. However, forensic evidence suggests that Byrd had been attempting to keep his head up while being dragged, and an autopsy suggested that Byrd was alive during much of the dragging. Byrd died about halfway along the route of his dragging, when his right arm and head were severed as his body hit a culvert.

Look at the entire state of Florida and the outlawing of Critical Race Theory being taught to public school students when it’s a college level course and it was never taught to lower classes. It’s a way of denying the history of the country being taught as it really happened. Remember that in Texas, textbooks had slavery presented as people who “volunteered” and not the brutal treatment of certain people using religion to justify it!

You can't get angry and upset at Black Americans and tell them to "get over it", *when you do not say the same to Jewish Americans, Indigenous Americans or Japanese Americans* . If you've noticed, many foreigners are well informed in regards to their history and they are not looked down upon for being educated in history. So why is it reversed here in America? Do you tell a grieving spouse who had been cheated on to just "get over it"? If someone hurt a loved one of yours and then yells at you to "get over it", and attempts to tell *you* how to feel, and *disregard/discredits* you, how would you feel about that? *Yes, forgiveness is possible but we still don't forget* . _There must be an acknowledgment, accountability and understanding so that this willful ignorance can't keep spreading like wildfire_ . No, we're not saying to constantly live in this mindset but to be aware and well-informed of your history. *Be a rebel to your comfort-bubble and try to do research on particular subjects* . No need to look down on others for having human emotions.

My heart goes out to the Gilbert family... The Lord Jesus Christ will compensate them... And to those who had a hand into this whole scandal in the murder of Henry Gilbert... Their day of Justice will come when they stand before Jesus Christ at their judgment... And they would say Lord have Henry dip his finger into water so it may cool my tongue...

I can't help but to cry while seeing this video. It hits home because Troup County is where I was born and lived most of my life. I see a lot of people that I know in this video and this true story is just unbelievably sad.

It’s sad today that young black people are killing each other instead of loving one another. With what our great grandparents and great, great grandparents went through you would think we would want to be more supportive of one another.

I served this country during the Gulf war. My dad served during the Vietnam war and my grandfather served during WW 2. My dad was not given any help from the VA. My grandfather was put along with all of the black soldiers in an open rail car while the white soldiers they captured were placed in enclosed rail cars. He too was not given any help. The sad part is they fought for rights we can't fully enjoy right now in 2022.

Man he defended himself I don’t blame him for what all transpired those police knew that Gus hadn’t been at that house and they took the weight out on mr. Gilbert because they wanted to. Gus didn’t ruin that family the police and that county ruined destroyed that family.

Stories like this anger me like few others. The brutality, inhumanity & evil that African Americans have endured due to White resentment would be unimaginable if we didn't know it to be true. When my (now 27 y.o.) son was in 3rd grade we watched the PBS Doc "Eyes on The Prize." He asked me: "Mom, what did Black people do to make White people so mad at them?" I was dumbstruck for a few seconds before answering him simply: "Nothing - Black people didn't do anything." He looked a little puzzled, then turned away & kept watching. I knew that unfortunately, he'd find out the particulars in short time.

Reminds me of what happened to Sandra Bland only without gunshot or battery. She was on her way to a new life; educated, motivated & enthusiastic. In no way suicidal. Dead in her jail cell. They said she hung herself.....Very doubtful. Strangulation is mostly a blood less crime> Why was she arrested to begin with? Needs a lie detector test--that officer should be taken to SW show & have Dan give him one.
