I agree that Ferragamo is a great mark. I've been buying Ferragamo for many years and using things up to today with no sign of wear and tear. Shoes and bags are fantastic and very comfortable. I think that scarfs are even better than Hermès ones. Service and after service perfect. Although for some years quality of bag clips are less good than previously.

Absolutely agree. Customer care and atmosphere at the Ferragamo shops (at least in Europe) is literally MILES ahead of the majority of other (luxury?) brands.

I too have been a Ferragamo fan since the 1980s/1990s. There shoes are very well made, as are their clothes. Further, I too love their scarves. They are 100% silk, but slightly lighter weight and more drapey than the classic 90cm Hermes, which makes them easier to wear. They have some wonderful bags that are very well made, but their designs needed updating. They do now have a new creative director, but they also have a vast clientele of all ages that they serve.

I feel like Ferragamo is underrated

I live in Belgium. My husband is Belgian aristocracy (he is a count) and it was him who introduced me to Delvaux ten years ago when we first got together and he gave me one (in beautiful ostrich leather) for the celebration of our first month together. So the brand has a lot of sentimental significance to me. Today I own around 15-20 bags from them and it’s one of my favorite brands. Ferragamo is other brand that I love. Perfect craftsmanship and style. I love the bags, the shoes and the clothes. I would add Ralph Lauren to the list too. It’s less luxurious but definitely has a timeless style very well appreciated at the European aristocracies. I always see the wives wearing RL while driving Range Rovers. It’s the ultimate aristocratic farm lady style kit. ❤

It's better to shop for less known brands that still are noteworthy. I've had my Dries Van Noten coat for over 15 years. Richard Tyler is a genius. And so I will never get rid of things I have by him. I also have lots of fun picking up interesting stuff from estate sales. They made things better back in the day.

Never see them mentioned in this space but to me Dries Van Noten is very luxurious. The product quality is really exceptional and they've been doing it for a long time.

I would love to see the mid-priced video you mentioned. I’d also be interested in your view of value-priced brands that surprise with high quality pieces.

IMO, the best quality "under the radar" leather handbag brands are Ferragamo and Tod's.

Many luxury brands are owned by large, publicly traded multinational corporations. These large, mega-corporations must please their shareholders by increasing the stock price. So they instruct companies they own to cut costs to increase profitability. So the order goes to the manufacturers to cut costs by 10% or whatever. So quality control is usually the first thing to get cut, then materials (maybe buy 5mm thick leather instead of more expensive 8mm thick leather. And so on. Google any luxury company like Gucci and see who owns them. FYI, all Gucci family members sold out to Kering.

This type of video is long overdue. I would add Ralph Lauren to the cheap brands. Their quality of fabrics and yarns/wools has fallen while the prices have steeply risen.

@@Tee55118 I think the quality over the years have gone down and their patterns have shrunk. I ordered a full priced coat that was 2 sizes too small. Sometimes in the summer their golf shirts are sold in tee shirt fabric that is almost transparent.

@@Tee55118 define class. Lori Piana is class. The quality of the fabrics is the best, if you can afford them. They whisper class, and don’t scream. RL’s quality years ago for their mid-line items was better than it is today- IMO. Everyone has and is entitled to his/her their own opinion.

I bought a Chanel bag a year ago, I won't say huge regret as at that time I really loved it. But as opposed to my Lady Dior (exceptional quality and design, love it!), I would't have bought the Chanel bag if it wasn't Chanel (silly me right?). The lambskin leather is beautifully soft, yes but its not only Chanel that does it. I LOVE Ferragamo, and so does my mother. I also like to carry bags that allow me to go wherever I want without feeling like I could be a victim of robbery AND without feeling all eyes on me. So Fendi peakaboo is my favourite!

I agree about Ralph Lauren. I used to buy polo shirts to my husband. He has many old ones that look better than the new ones. Another mid- brand is Coach. They stole a bag from me. I sent a bag to get fixed but I never got it back.

I sent a vintage 1980s (it was my mother’s) bag to them to repair, and it took forever for them to get it back to me. I received it back unrepaired, and even vandalized! They took off by twisting the original brass D-ring that held the strap to the bag, and replaced it with a much thinner D-ring. I was PI$$ED! I called their customer service number many times to try to get it back. It took at least 3 months. Also, recently Coach sent me some other woman’s purse. Out of the blue. Maybe it’s yours?? It’s black jacquard weave fabric, and nothing like my style. I called Coach customer service to tell them about receiving someone else’s bag. The rep said she would have a prepaid box sent to me to return it to them. Crickets. No box. I still have this other woman’s bag. Moral of the story: Do NOT trust Coach to repair your items! They couldn’t find their own rear ends with both hands and a dog!

I remember passing the Delvaux stores on the way to school, and always really liking their designs but falling backwards from their prices. I had an aunt growing up who had a real eye for quality so my tastes always ran a bit too expensive for my practical mind. I love quality and I don't mind paying for it ... if I'm sure i'll get my use out of it. No "these shoes are for the girl with options" kind of bullshit for me 🤣Which is why I'm always on the look for that practical luxury bag ... one I want to wear daily ... but quality often isn't what it used to be unfortunately. These days you also really have to stay away from outlet sales. They never were as good as originals but these days it's such horrendous quality. When I was in my teens I saved for leather bags but the male models because I just found them so much more practical and better quality for that 200-300 euro range than a woman's bag. Still have all of those and some 15 years later are as good as new and I wore those daily. They weren't fashionable but I really adored them.

What about Launer London ?

My husband bought Ferragamo shoes about 6 years ago and they have held up amazingly well. Great quality. The similar Prada loafers he get were garbage from the same wear after about 3 years.

Some brands that are a bit iffy when it comes to quality are still excellent within certain categories, for instance silks or gloves or knitwear, because they are made with more attention to quality and craftsmanship at separate production sites. LV, Prada, Chanel and so on are far from all bad.

I absolutely adore how respectful you are, politeness is a unique thing nowadays. I am a big fan of Max Mara, usually buy their products on sale formflannels and the outnet. I would add N.Peal to this list.

Loro Piano IS under the LVMH and every “know if you know” woman in Italy wears MM and the Icon coat is present in every elegant woman’s closet…

Hi and I wanted to say I have seen a few of your videos and have subscribed. Great content and execution! I had a few random thoughts. I love fashion and as a 36 year old living in the US, I am all over the place. Some brands like Gucci are great but some of their products like you said are not like they use to be. I believe in Classic style with a hint towards old money. Take for example the iconic Gucci loafers: for the alligator version they are 2K or so... I just purchased a beautiful pair from Jay Butler for 899 and a matching belt for 230 and I dare say the quality is a step higher...Then there is LV...It looks great but I have been doing research into other brands such as Coranado Leather that make absolutely breath taking pieces that are so heavy in the material they use and at a reasonable mark up. I think Quality of the goods and craftsman ship trumps the brand it self. I wanted to purchase a purse from LV to give to my GF and went with the Coranado purse for her and she gets compliments everyday and it is not going to fall apart anytime soon. Finally, I purchased a pair of loafers from S. Ferrgamo in 2016 for about 350 or so. Somewhere around there. The same ones are now being sold for almost 1000! Inflation is part of the equation but I agree you are paining for the name and STATUS in a lot of cases. Sorry for the rants, just some random thoughts but THANK YOU for these videos and keep up the great work!

For Max Mara, I would stay away from their weekend line. I purchased a few items from their weekend line and it's a disappointment. I'd recommend sticking with their main line for some seriously good and timeless work outfits :)

This is your first video I've watched. I enjoyed it. I totally agree with most of your "overdone" list. To your list of quiet luxury i would add Charlotte Olympia shoes - handmade in Italy and so comfortable and Brunello Cuccinelli. I love Hermes scarves, but feel like they've flooded the market. Too many sizes and colorways.

I wonder, how Prada made it to the list. Quality-wise, they are sub-par for several years already. My choice would be Ferragamo - their quality is literally "1A", with excellent design included (=both women & men products).

As she said in the video, Loro Piana is the brand known for cashmere and vicuña. I also have an older Brunello Cucinelli cashmere sweater that’s very nice.

Yes, please show mid-range products. Many of the high end bags are exquisite, but out of my comfort zone.

I would love a video on mid range clothing brands that are high quality

I truly hope Chanel and Dior makeup never go 'out of style' to the point that the brands start having to pull back on what they can release. I've been wearing their foundations and lipsticks for years and find the quality superior. The clothing and accessories, meh. I never buy that. Ferragamo shoes, well I've had two pairs and both hurt my feet. They just aren't made for my feet. I loved the look of them, but ouch. There was no amount of stretching that made them feel good from the time I put them on in the morning until late afternoon. But going up a size had me literally walking out of them in the mornings. I much preferred Bally shoes, which wasn't mentioned here but which I think is truly an eternal shoe company. They have more give, though still very high quality leather. Not their accessories though. Max Mara is one I've always noticed and thought about buying, but never quite have. I do have a positive impression of it for sure, but there's never anything I feel 'I must have this.' What a fun channel you have. I rarely think about these things anymore, but you're allowing me to see things I've taken for granted for so long that they'd become invisible to me.

It would be great if you could review the state of British luxury brands + brands that are likely to be worth our penny.

there are a lot of new designer couture nowadays...the rich will buy their things related to their own networks...if its a brand that have a relation with their friends, relative, etc, they will buy that instead as a show of support and respect...in return their friends and relative will support them back in whatever business they are in...

YSL, they are still pretty good with respect to the quality and style.

Wrong! Marketing and designs will keep brands such as LV and Chanel as leading luxury brands. Any designs that appeal to the wealthy Chinese and Asians would definitely survive and grow, whilst brands that have do not appeal to Asians will die, it’s as simple as that. Just go into any designer brand store and count the number of Asians clients, probably 90% are Asians. You just have to see most SA are Asians and are able to speak Chinese to their clients. The bosses of these designer houses know their future markets are Asians.
