I was sitting on a bench there and had a full pack of biscuits next to me on the bench. I gave one deer a few small pieces of biscuit and after a while I covered the biscuits up as the deer had had its share, so I thought. It then reared up in the air and I could feel my sunglasses were scratched heavily by its hooves. Luckily I had my sunglasses on otherwise I might’ve lost an eye! 😂 😤 they are very aggressive.

yeah it seems that they cut off their antlers when they reach a certain age, so they don't injure people and other deer. they're aggressive because they're so used to people feeding them, they've gotten brave and even demanding. looks like quite the cool experience though

Not exactly, this has been going on for centuries. It had nothing to do with tourism from foreigners. The antlers are collected and put to use for many different things.

The deer should roam in the wilderness, where wolves can eat them and tame their population. The nara deer are eating tree barks and stuff, probably starving, too. I bet its stressful to be constantly stimulated by noise and people, even if you get treats.

Do not touch the deer#1 do not antagonize the deer with food and be respectful in my country. Lots of gaijin simply don't understand that Japan is not Canada or Australia, America or new Zealand and they're unspoken rules of etiquette. Please learn these next time before you visit. Remember you are a visitor. Even if your teaching English in Japan you are still a visitor.
