The Lovely Bones would have been Rated R if it followed the book.

I loved this film and also helped me to visualise my son in heaven who died when he was 16 and it made me very happy to think of him x

Rose McIver, who played Lindsey, is very sadly overlooked. She took this character who didn't have much screentime compared to the others and made her shine anyway.

I am so mad that people think the movie was crap. It was amazing. They did use very very smart way to tell everything that happened to the family. Susie's haven changed all the time which was connected with it. When I read a book I am always curious how could they put some amazing written words on the screen. Here they did it so well here, amazingly weird.

I hated soo much that they never would find Susie's bones. I cried and cried after this movie. And It was very scary when the older sister was in the muderers house and he was in there..what would he do if he found her when she was laying on his grass (probably sprained her ankle) it was daylight..!!!

Director Peter Jackson wanted to make an adaptation that would be appropriate for his daughter to watch--so an R-rating was out of the question. With all the senseless violence portrayed in films today, it's refreshing to watch films in which such grotesque scenes contained in the book version are implied in the film instead of graphically depicting it. And yes--Saoirse Ronan is one of the best actresses Generation Z--along with Chloe Moretz, Dakota Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld.

It's really funny when people say 'oh the book was so much better' Well duh... it's a book, it's meant to move your mind way more. Movies are a totally different thing and they cannot, by any means, ever be the same as the book because they would be veeery long. I'm so glad I saw the movie and then read the book. It's a magical film and the performances were amazing (most). I feel people who get obsessed about books and then criticize movies are actually missing out on really appreciating film

There was actually a reason for that; Saoirse Ronan's (Susie) parents didn't want their daughter to act in a sexually explicit rape scene, so the screenwriters agreed to make it more ambiguous to go along with their wishes, since Saoirse was younger then.

the book was amazing, and the movie was amazing. It;s getting kind of old that people want every detail in the book to be in the film adaptation. if there was no book and just a movie, it would be brilliant.

Just finished reading the book.. I do believe that the movie has captured the essence of the book.. I disagree that the movie didn't do justice with the adaptation.. It is complete as u cannot put everything in the book to the film. Kudos to the film! Kudos to Peter and the rest of the cast. most esp. to saoirse! i cannot imagine anyone better to portray susie salmon than her.

I saw this movie when I was 8 and I LOVED it. It was a very sad movie indeed. But the thought of forcing a child to do something disgusting with you and then killing them and stuffing them in a safe and throw their body in a landfill is just incredibly cruel. And I love the way how it was mostly about Susie and her pov. And it kills me that they never found her lovely bones💔

Totally agree. Watch the movie first and then read the book. Both very beautiful and touching but different

I've read about some of the differences in the book and the book sounds REALLY hardcore. The movie made you feel terrible as it was. If they had added all those details that the book had....smh

one of my favorite things about the book and movie is that the killer is killed by the very thing that susie said would be a good murder weapon both where good although the book made me cry more then the movie (yeah I'm a crybaby) the book was a little better but the film overall was great I recommend both

it's obvious that certain things in the book couldn't be filmed due to Saoirse's age. I mean she was 13 when Lovely Bones was filmed, mainly if you've read the book you know what I mean.
