I agree with the fact that she basically _idolized_ him. She loved him for how “perfect” he was, and was too nervous to even talk to him. Her relationship with Chat seems more genuine, even tho Chat and Adrien are the same person. But now Adrien is becoming like Mari, while Mari is becoming the oblivious one.

To be fair Her feelings for Adrien also developed quickly. She disliked him in the beginning, and then he hands her an umbrella and she goes bonkers again. She's just the type of girl that can go from 0 to 100 within a few seconds

For Mari, the whole Chat obsession feels more like a coping mechanism in some weird way, where since she had to come to the realization that loving Adrian isn't good for her both physically and mentally, even possibly putting him at risk, she kinda just fell back to the safest option, and an option she knows loves her back: Chat Noir. It's more her being desperate to finally feel wanted and loved in a 'safer' environment, than her actually loving Chat. At least that's how I see it.

That's exactly how I see it too and I personally don't find it romantic. Instead of realizing her feelings for Cat Noir that she was repressing because of Adrien, she exaggerates those feelings to fool herself that she has completely moved on. With Adrien, it feels more like he's actually moved on because of the countless rejections.

It's quite funny actually, to see Ladybug say some flirty/thirsty shit and to then have Chat Noir go "this is normal platonic partner behaviour"

Well, it makes sense Adrien fell for Marinette. In season 4 he was highly neglected by Ladybug as Chat Noir, while Marinette was there for him, listening and giving advice, whenever he needed. So it's obvious he lost interest in Ladybug and fell for Marinette.

Some people say that the reverse love square is not fully reversed because deep down the characters still like the "other person", which is true, but you can tell that Adrien/Cat Noir accepted the situation easier and is dealing better with not wanting to get involved with Ladybug anymore for everything that happened, while Marinete still has moments of crush on Adrien sometimes. The reason for this is probably trauma 😅 Marinete was never rejected by Adrien or anything like that so even with the recent events she is still happy deep down with the way Adrien is treating her now, while Cat Noir has had a lot of rejections and moments of disappointment, not to mention the recent events of Jubilation and his new interest in Marinete, all this together gave him more motivation to try to move on and that's why he didn't show any uncertainty in not wanting Ladybug even though she shows interest in him. Maybe he can think about it more later, mainly because we saw in the trailers of the kwamis's choice special(chronologically the next episodes in the correct order) that he will declare himself as Adrien and Marinete will reject him, we don't know what that could cause and what they will do to solve it...

i think it should be noted that part of the whole development with her feelings for chat, is the realisation that any 'civilian' she dates will be a risk or weak point for her. She couldn't properly be in a relationship with luka, and then the adrien felix swap messed her up even further. I think she's realized that she can't have a romance with anyone else because the risks are far greater. With chat noir, if they just date as ladybug and chat noir then there is no risk. Chat blanc in her mind happened because chat knew her identity so as long as the remain anonymous to each other, its not as risky. she's realized chat is the only one who loves her unconditionally and who wouldn't be at risk. Meanwhile with Chat its simply as they said, he's got feelings for ladybug but he realizes he's probably let them get in the way of the mission more often than not, thus he's trying to stomach it and move on much like before with kagami. The main difference is that he probably that he knows marinette longer and probably thinks she understands him. She's one of his first friends and the one who has always tried to help him despite her failed attempts at her crush.

Adrien went from the guy Marinette had thought was a spoiled brat to being the one she'd obsess over for 4 seasons...ALL BECAUSE HE GAVE HER AN UMBRELLA. Her doing on a one eighty for chat noir who has done more makes sense. Like wise it was unstandable at first that Adrien well for ladybug but now he's moving on and he might have actually seen some hope in Mari that wasn't there with kagamai.

Cat summed it up well, with LB. He said there are still feelings for her, but more as a friend now. He even asked if that was okay? Which he didn't need her permission to make that choice, but it shows how much he still respects her opinion. How much he values her as a friend. This is something Cat was never able to do with LB previously - see her as "just" a friend. Friendship is necessary for them to have a romantic relationship. Because putting someone on a pedestal is fantasy thinking, and won't last through the ups and downs. Which is exactly what Marinette and Adrien are realising, about their infatuations versus someone who has been there for them, since the very beginning.

I honestly found the pacing a bit weird, but I generally assume that Marinette went under the same process as she did when she fell in love with Adrien after the umbrella scene. Except since she already knows Cat Noir, the struggle was realizing she was in love, and then everything poured out.

I think Adrien's feelings finally changed whenever he was able to quit modeling thanks to her advice, AND he saw Ladbyug make an incredibly costly mistake. He learned "Oh, I've been putting Ladybug on this pedestal and imagining she's perfect all the time and filling in the blanks of who she really is." and then he was extremely grateful towards Marinette and with his overwhelming love for Ladybug out of the way, he was able to fall in love with a humanized 'everyday ladybug' who is clumsy, messes up her words, and he actually knows. Marinette/Ladybug's cryptonite is ANYONE mentioning her costly mistake of losing the miraculouses. Every time she hears about it, she instantly breaks down and freaks out. There is only one thing that can be said and one person that can say it that will help her calm down: Chat Noir saying "No, you haven't lost everything. I'm still here, I will always be here for you, and I believe in you." Her life has had more tragedy and trauma than ever and the only sense of relief she recieves from that trauma is Chat Noir. Now she truly appreciates everything he does, and she relies on him more than ever. I agree with you, the reason it is easier for her to flirt with Chat is that she already knows him. She doesn't make up imaginary stories like she does with Adrien, and she's not worried about doubting who he is. He is her partner, and she is really close with him. Plus flirting is SUPER normalized in their relationship- thanks to Chat- so it's easier for her to work up the courage to say cheesy pick up lines.

Honestly, I think ladybug would've fallen for Chat Noir sooner if he backed off and became more focussed on the missions. It was already foreshadowed in Kuro Neiko. She fell for him then because he was more focussed on what needed to get done and didn't goof around as much - which I think added to her stress by making her think like everything is up to her to carry. The timing kinda makes sense for me though, since she needed something as heavy as having all the kwamis stolen to shock her out of her feelings for Adrien (coz she thinks that's what's to blame) and at the same time Chat Noir backs off coz he has been hurt to much in season 4 and he starts really just giving her the support she desperately needs without the added foolery in inappropriate flirting. He was her night in shinning Armour when she really needed him. On the other hand, ladybug has been so mean to Chat noir throughout season 4, so it makes sense that his feelings for her would fade, although I'm sure he still cares for her. But as u mentioned, marinette was to him what Chat noir was to ladybug - that person that was there for u and lifted u up when u really needed it. So it seems like they are both falling for their alter egos because of similar reasons.

How fast the switch is honestly makes sense, because marrinette is also throwing herself into this alternate option out of desperation and guilt, while Adrien has always been pretty up front about his love for Ladybug. It's also a fun contrast with the snail pace of the original

Well my fellow Marichat stans, our ship sailed with breathtaking wind, then sunk at the last possible moment. I have some choice words for Astruc at this time... But in all seriousness, I have a *little* bit of hope that Marinette still has feelings for Chat Noir despite not being able to be with him. I just really don't want the writers to force her back into loving ONLY Adrien and being a crazy stalker again because I'm so done with that. Her relationship with Chat felt so natural and non-toxic and non-problematic. It was such a breath of fresh air! Like when they went to see the ice cream guy, they were laughing and dancing and having fun and making jokes together and I thought: "These two dorks are SO perfect for each other. They can have fun and make jokes and not feel stressed all the time! They can be idiots TOGETHER!" It made me shed a tear seeing how well their relationship could work out...

Yah that's actually broke my heart, but their love scene especally those holyfkking kisses omygaddddd!!! I literally couldn't breath it's the most genuin and hearthelming kisses I've seen. ). Also, I think Adrien will do something to bring back marinette's feelings for him. AHahhhah it's time to see Adrien chasing marinette (which is now on other way around). We atleast now hear "I'm in-love with marinette" than. "Oh! Marinette? No! She's just a friend". FOR REAL!!! Just as season 5 was going amazingly, Thomas made a typical bad writing choice. The best way for this to turn out would have been that they're conflicted and confused with who they like, but no he just completely sunk marichat and that was a bad choice imo. They needed to spend way more time with the ship and then let it progress into something different, like them suddenly being confused

@@PinkPixelProductions Personally I think Thomas Astruc really hates Marichat as a ship. Don't know why. It seems he prefers either Adrienette or Ladrien (the more boring ones in my opinion, not bad, just not as interesting as Marichat or Ladynoir, not dunking on anyone who loves those ships).

I think Adrien`s now obvious feelings for Marinette have something to do with the fact that Adrien cannot picture or imagine anyone except Marinette behind Ladybug`s mask

I definitely agree that the love square reversal is happening way too fast. They spent these past four seasons on the same goddamn dynamic when they could have used this time to naturally get to the reversal. But oh well, it's very nice to see anyway. The reversal of the love square is kind of necessary for them to get somewhere. Adrien is a straightforward dude that has no filter, so unlike Marinette who makes convoluted plans instead of talking to the guy she likes it's a good change of pace. Because Adrien wastes no time telling Marinette about his feelings exactly how they are. Marinette falling for Chat Noir complicates this, however. But I don't think it's out of nowhere, either. It's just that all this time she was too focused on Adrien to see how cool Chat Noir is. And given they've been partners and friends for so long, it makes it easier for Marinette to actually communicate with him. Now that Elation happened and my marichat loving heart is both fed and broken, I still stand by what I said. Marinette and Chat Noir clicked immediately, thanks to Adrien's straightforwardness and Marinette being comfortable with Chat Noir. These dudes wasted no time in that episode. They really went for it. And thus made more progress in one episode than any other side did in four seasons. Despite them not being able to be together, they obviously still love each other, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the future episodes (I lowkey hope Adrien starts to act more like Chat Noir in his civilian form in front of Marinette).

I agree it happened very quickly with her - which is why I am so glad Alya is involved more as the "audience" here going -- "wait, what? I think you are burying your feelings about Adrien" -- and her head-first dive into "loving" Chat Noir is really making that stand out more. True, I think she really starts to appreciate him more and allow underlying attraction that was ALWAYS there to surface - but she is pairing that with her recent trauma about losing the Miraculous etc etc --- so that combined and knowing her explosive personality when it comes to love, then it kinda makes sense. And I THINK that is what they are trying to showcase here, but I could be wrong. I hope that makes sense, LOL. Basically, what a bunch of folks said: She's kinda in denial. I DO think it is also weird how she is allowing herself to go bonkers over Chat Noir with the knowledge (or half-knowledge) about Chat Blanc. THAT is bothering me. Yes, she slipped up with Adrien...but doesn't she think/remember that her "love" (as Chat Blanc put it) caused the destruction of everything....Sooooo. Again, maybe I missed something or forgot a piece, but that has been irking me a bit.

She is definitely in denial and that's making her throw all reason out of the window with her new crush on Chat Noir 💧Last season a Chat Blanc scenario was her biggest fear, but now it got overshadowed by the living nightmare of loosing the miraculous. I hope she gets herself together soon because now because of Glaciator 3 and Marichat Marinette is a direct target of Hawkmoth, she is in danger.

GURL I FEEL YOU😂 like I kinda expected Marinette to take time and process her feelings for Chat Noir, NOT be an over obsessed fangirl just like how she was with Adrien. But then again, for the sake of comedy, it is pretty entertaining to watch yet I feel a bit cringed at the same time LMAO

I kinda think its the Miraculous that gives her confidence. In episode 9, she stutters a little bit when talking to Cat Noir. But then it just goes away.

Honestly the progression feels really fast.. like for 4 seasons straight it’s been a slow burn for YEARS between the original ships, but then all of a sudden within a few episodes everything completely 180s and we already got a semi confession kiss scene. It also doesn’t help that for some reason they’re releasing all the episodes at once rather than on a regular schedule. While we had to wait years for the original ships, we only have to wait a few days for the reverse square to develop. Honestly just… pacing… please, pacing

I thought so too. I especially felt Adrien's crush on Marinette was too fast and kind of out of nowhere.

Not soo random if u think about the episodes chronologically. If u re-watch season 4 ull see how ladybug just broke Chat noirs heart continuously. Then in risk (after being rejected and replaced numerous times) marinette actually listens to him, encourages him, and makes him feel important - the exact opposite of what ladybug did. And Adrien did like her from the start he was just in denial. But now he has no more reason to be coz ladybug really did hurt him in season 4 and gave him te motivation he needed to move on. I think he is infatuated with marinette right now (that's why his affection seems so intense) and marinette is infatuated with Chat noir. But I don't doubt that that infatuation will simmer down and become a deeper form of love if they let it

I think it makes sense that Mari is more comfortable flirting with Chat, it’s because quite literally, they’ve risked their lives for each other. Chat has always been there for her, he’s always been upfront with liking her. They’ve spent most of their time together. I think overtime she’s slowly come to like him and then it just came as a punch to the face when she finally realized it. Same goes for Adrien. He finally realized after all this time the person always there for him was Mari. With him, he’s more in tune with his feelings so I think he has a better grasp on why he likes her and why he’s distancing himself from ladybug a bit. Mari is more confused with herself because that’s her character. She’s always been this way. She’s not as straightforward and she has to try and rationalize every little thing before it clicks in her little head lmfao.

They just really love both sides now, and I’m so happy. ❤

Adrien is super crazy for Marinette.

i think adriens development of a crush on marinette was set all throughout the series so thats why it doesnt feel entirely weird that hes crazy for her now. but marinette suddenly has a crush on chatnoir which has only been shown throughout the series a VERYY miniscule amount. like adrien has looked at marinette lovingly multiple times before coming to terms with having a crush on her last seasons… and marinette/ladybug blushed once in the literal episode BEFORE the fifith season. idek bruh its lowkey weird she has a crush on him so quick and yes she developed a crush on adrien in the beginning of the show quickly but it felt ok bc that was like the whole point of the show. i just wish she developed her crush on cn more

I agree I think her feelings for Cat Noir evolved too quickly as well. I think the reason Marinette is being so crazy and over the top with her crush on CN so instantaneously is her over-compensating to try to prove to herself (and others) that she really doesn’t love Adrien anymore. Now, this is not to say that she DOESN’T have ACTUAL feelings for CN, because I think that she does. But to me, it really speaks to her denial and almost feels….. disingenuous? Idk, I think she just has some confusion to work through instead of focusing all her energy on her new feelings that she might not fully understand yet (if that makes sense?) I agree I wish we had an episode before that sort of showcased her trying to work out this new discovery vs. throwing herself into something. I also think this might have something to do with her confidence around CN. Like you pointed out, she already knows he loved her as LB, so she feels like there’s less of a risk for rejection. But even as Marinette she is more confident with him (warning: Elation Spoilers coming) as shown by her actions in Elation. She was so in love with Adrien she couldn’t even get an actual sentence out, yet with CN she’s flirty and having moonlight dates and giving kisses. Yes it could be because she’s his partner and is so comfortable around him, but to me it could also be because her heart might not fully be in it as much as she thinks (because of her denial) and therefore she has less to lose. Girlfriend just needs to have some time to really sort through her feelings and find what she really wants vs trying to convince herself she needs “xyz” in order to be happy. Now as far as Adrien goes, he’s confident in his feelings because he’s had time to sort it out. He’s been rejected by LB over and over, therefore he’s had time to process and accept and have closure and realize that he needs to move on. But, he was able to pinpoint the moment that his feelings for Marinette started to change. It wasn’t just some random flip flop. When he didn’t quite understand what he was feeling because it was new, he invited her to the museum to try to figure it out, knowing it started there, and being 100% transparent and forward with her the entire time. He even tells her that his feelings may have changed but he doesn’t really understand what and he wants to talk it out with her. So Adrien has been able to Really work through his new feelings I believe. And Marinette constantly gives him reminders about why he feels the way he does (the way she is always there for him) so I think his realization was much more finite. Alllllll this to say that I’m really excited to see where their journey’s lead them. Hoping Mari finds clarity in her feelings and both she and Adrien finally get a shot at happiness (whoever they do or don’t end up with).

there's this saying "it's not about being crazy in love, it's about having peace in love." I think what she feels for chat noir is more genuine and is what you can actually call "true love". sure she is confused, but I think it's more that she hasn't made up her mind (and heart) completely yet. everything is happening fast and abrupt. along with all the pressures and responsibility that comes with being a guardian. I think what she feels for adrien is 50 percent love, 50 percent infatuation. she still puts him on a pedestal and haven't found peace yet in her feelings for him. given that they only know each other for 6 months, it's understandable how confusing this is for her and we can't really expect teens in such a short amount of time to have clear and deep feelings for each other (instead of just deep infatuation). kudos to adrien for his clarity and decisiveness when it comes to love. but I really can't blame mari, there's just too much on her plate rn. GOSH COULD YOU BELIEVE THAT IT'S ONLY BEEN 6 MONTHS FOR THEM. it's hard to imagine sometimes. I mean it's been like 7 years for us 😭

@@striveforexcellence7673 yesss and it could be that her feelings for CN really ARE true feelings of love, I can definitely see it! but I agree she has so much on her plate and I think she’s confused and will hopefully have time to sort through her feelings. I’m not sure I fully agree with her feelings for Adrien being about infatuation, maybe to some aspect but not a whole 50%. just because they have become friends, and she’s gotten to know him better and better as a person. She’s become someone he confides in about what he truly wants and I think that’s helped shaved off a lot of those feelings of admiration. Honestly either way, I love both ships so I’m happy however it lands hahaha I just want these two to stop playing with OUR hearts already! Like I can’t take much more of this hahaha it’s been 7 years of this! 🤣

@@raynielawson3561 lol yeah it's been such a roller coaster ride with them but somehow I kind of don't want this to end yet WE DESERVE A MAGICAL MOMENT FOR THE IDENTITY REVEAL T•T the love square's crazy but there has never been anything like it before. I guess I'm just a bit worried that them ending the hide and seek, will they won't they game will make it a bit underwhelming BUT on the other hand I would really love to finally see them as a couple! AND MARI- I HOPE TO NO LONGER SEE HER STAMMER HERE AND THERE like pls they're so much better when they're being completely themselves with each other. I'm so happy we finally got a glimpse of how their relationship could play out. I MEAN THE KISSES!!!

Talking about personalities, INFP (Adrien) falls for someone who pushed them for the development and ENFJ (Marinette) is great match with INFP because of how they show love and can make INFP feel like themselves. -INFP

This is just who Marinette is. She's a fangirl through and through. We've known this since the beginning. Once she's admitted to herself that she likes someone, it's full on obsession. Marinette loves HARD maybe too hard

i am too but i'll let him slide this once. He did what no one else in the entire goddam series did. He told Adrien/Chat noir, that Mariniette lkes Adrien. He didn't dance around it like everyone else for the past 4 seasons, just went, dude she likes Adrien Agreste.

The reason she's so good at talking to cat noir is for 2 reasons; she generally more confident in their hero form, and she believes that cat noir is only hiding his feelings (or at least not having it pressure their relationship) for her sake.

I hope we will get alot of mari chat scenes 🛐

I was always the biggest fan of Marichat and now I finally see it official in the series. The reason is that both of them saw each other as friends and they accepted each other with respect and who they are. Ladrien (or simply their other side) idolised one another because Ladybug is more confident and "perfect" that clumsy silly Marinette and Adrien was that perfect model boy and son, but as Chat Noir he can be his true self. That's why Marichat makes the most sense, they see their real side, because they started as friends they are not shy in front of each other and the evolution into love is slow and pure. But beside that creators explained very good how their relationship can work when the time is right and I'm so not dissapointed! All of it makes total sense why they couldn't unmask sooner.

She's also Extra flirty as Lady Noir because it seems like Plagg kinda just does that to people. We have pretty fair reason to believe that the miraculous can pretty heavily affect personality, and Plagg just seems to make his holders very passionate about the person/thing they love, which is valid, because Plagg himself does that. His target is just... Cheese, and not a person.

I’ve moved on from this show years ago and it’s still frustrating even just watching things happen from afar 😭

Aaahhh I cried a lot when I waiting exaltation episode😭😭😭😭 marichat forever 💗💗

I think the reason marinette as ladybug wasted no time in declaring her feelings was because, of the events in strike back. she is still traumatized by that so she thinks the best way to forget about Adrian was to focus on chat noir when she discovered she is falling in love with him.

the love square flip literally so embarrassing adrien literally saying marinettes name over and over while doing daily tasks made me die in a way that the second hand embarrassment from everything marinette has done could never do 😭😭

Ive JUST caught up with Miraculous and honestly, this love square switch has me all kinds of bonkers. Like (and this isn't me complaining because *does Chris Evan's laugh* THIS IS AMAAAAAAZING) the writers are really pulling out all the strings to make this show stay on the air and to pull THIS switcheroo is just jaw dropping but sooo hook grabbing! I wonder for how long they can manage to keep this going, like whats next?

I think i kind of like this dynamic because it shows how the level of comfort you felt with a friend tranlates over into a potential courtship and it makes it all the more easier to be confident because you know how to act around them. Versus when you're a friend of a friend and its a crush situation.

I haven’t watched this show in years but you’re kind of convincing me to pick it up again. I wonder if the reason Marinette acts differently towards Chat is because her relationship with Adrian was kind of parasocial. At least from what I remember he was basically her celebrity crush who she happened to also know irl. Maybe she’s able to be flirtatious towards Chat because she actually knows him well and feels comfortable with him. Anyways, thanks for maybe getting me to watch the show again! I stopped a few years ago but am now intrigued!

I haven’t watched seasons 4 & 5 but based off the little knowledge I have of this love square flip thing, I think Bunnix said it best in Timetagger in S3. She said they were all over the place and I think that’s what’s happening now.

Like Marinette thinking CN is still in love with Ladybug, it's not until the next episode that she realizes this is not the case anymore. Elation was absolutely crazy. I have a theory on Elation btw. What if the writers used that episode to make both of them realize they liked both sides of the other person. Obviously we saw that Mari and Chat Noir can't be together because she literally almost got akumatized by Monarch but Chat Noir saved her by giving her a kiss🤩My marichat self is absolutely screaming rn. Like I was saying, I feel like Marinette still likes Chat Noir but next episode, she will start showing she likes Adrien again. I feel like Adrien will stay the same with ladybug cuz he never really stopped showing/flirting with ladybug cuz thats kinda Chat Noirs personality and I feel like Adrien will definitely keep trying to confess/show feelings towards Mari. Its just a matter of time before they balance each other out and realize themselves that they like both sides of each other.

hmm. I just hope next episode we don't see Marinette going crazy with Adrien. I wanna see more realistic reaction. I hope she'll feel heartbroken cuz of the previous peisode about chat noir, and then there's adrien who'll console and be with her to those dificult times. I also like to see her struggle (not that i wanna see them suffer) it's just it's more realistic that way than, gettin confessed at then sudenly they're together? like I wanna see more Adrien's jealousy, or Marinette's in-denial stage.(Also, now that Adrien know, marinette used to be inlove with her. I wanna see him try winning marinette without telling her that he knows Marinette used to be inlove with him) afcourse those scene will be hard to put since there's also this fighting and saving humanity scene. I get why the writers are doing like this because when marinette was trippin over Luca it was kinda sad because he was getting hurt. i think marinette is trying to push away her feelings for adrien because of how dumb they made her. her saying "it's chat noir i like" seems to me like her trying to convince herself she just likes him. the way i see it is, she does like chat noir, but still likes adrien and is trying not to, so she acts the way chat noir acted towards her.

i think the reverse love square is good in concept, but i feel like it kind of goes against all of the excuses ladybug had told cat noir for like 4 seasons straight about why they can't be together. also, does no one remember that mari was traumatized by cat blanc, and the idea of falling in love with cat noir might facilitate what happened back then?? that feels like a big plot hole that never got explored before she started to have feelings for cat noir. that's my biggest gripe with the reverse.

I believe that Marinette/ladybug is so much better at talking with cat noir than Adrien cause they are frineds/co-workers. They have known each other for so long and they have always joked around with each other,so I think that she feels much more comfortable than she does with Adrien, even though she is friends with Adrien. Basically she was always so nervous around Adrien that it also made her uncomfortable. But with cat noir even if he was the one being flirty with her she always joked around with him and had fun, thats why she feels more comfortable at being flirty with him. Also I think that Plagg is very flirty with Tikki as well so its in cat noir's nature to be flirty, thus the person that has Plagg is also flirtious. So when Marinette was LadyNoir she was really flirty because of Plagg as well. I love LadyNoir, I really love to see this side of Marinette with Plagg's effect.
