They are pretty iconic. Bloody iconic second hand price, too!

i know i'm super late to the party but the thing about this amp is: those two channels ARE identical and THAT'S WHERE THE MAGIC IS do you have the foot pedal that came w/ the amp? if not, you're missing a crucial piece the trick is to BLEND the two channels dial up a loud distortion on A and a clean-to-light-overdrive on B switch between at will OR play them both at the SAME TIME even if you don't have the pedal, you can then use the "both" input to blend A & B together into (for example) a thick, crunchy tone on the A channel that ALSO has some real note clarity behind it via the B channel adjust levels until perfect it's two guitar sounds for the price of one SPEAKING OF if you and your friends are poor and you have a friend who plays guitar but doesn't have an amp, you can EACH use a channel and have whatever guitars, effects, etc you want INDEPENDENTLY - you're in effect only sharing the speaker because you effectively each have your own amp - great for live performances as a backup or guest player option, too! OR if you wanna get crazy, add a second cable jack on your guitar or use a signal splitter two cables/signals come out of the guitar, one goes into amp channel A and one goes into amp channel B you now have INDEPENDENT EFFECTS PATHS you can chorus or reverb or EQ or octave one channel and NOT the other channel AND control how loud each one is in the mix VIA THE AMP endless possibilities i know this is a lot that's just my favorite amp of all time and i feel like you missed some opportunities to really enjoy what it has to offer the sound is specific, as you say, but in a good way (seriously that overdrive tone is A+) but the opportunities you have for truly unique sounds from this amp surpass almost anything on the market because of the tonal flexibility it offers a single guitar player admittedly, in the studio you HAVE OPTIONS and can do those things without jumping through so many hoops but as someone who used this amp primarily for live performance, it was LIFE CHANGING

Great amp! I play mostly doom and I run it in stereo with my 1973 Peavey bass amp.

I have the Beta Bass combo 115 that I bought new in 78. It isn't working and I'm not sure how much it's going to cost to fix it! Hopefully parts are available. This was a great amp and very reliable when I was playing 6 nights a week in the 70s and early 80s.

It is a funny amp to play, the EQ is quite special. I play it with a bass guitar (I have the Hilbish design re-creation 200W). In clean, it has a very powerful attack and it cut through the mix like in butter.

Lately I have also used it more and it has grown on me quite a bit! The thing that I find a bit annoying as far as guitar goes is the bass, which is a bit loose and lacks definition.. Is it something that your amp does too, or maybe this one needs a service?

@@TrailOfSound I only use it with a bass and I did not really mention this problem, even with a low B, it sounds articulate. I play clean or with a slight overdriven sound. It is not a modern sounding amp for sure but I would define it as nervous and with some good bite. I do not have the Sunn but the Hilbish Design version which is a re-creation of the amp, maybe Nathan the owner of the company improved the amp design? I don't know . There are few videos that compare the Sunn and the Hilbish on youtube. In my opinion, if you like the sound of your amp more than the fact that it is a collectable, I would sold it and buy a new Hilbish, 200 or 700W. It seems that the resale price of the Sunn is pretty high since few years.

I thought you had the Sunn my mistake! Yes, maybe he has changed something, I will service this one and see if it changes! I can't sell it as it isn't mine, it is a friend's that has left it here in the studio until he needs it again. I'll check the Hillbish Design amps for sure! Thanks for your reply!
