    Okay, minor thing from someone who works with software & tech, when you said 'Viruses being lost is probably a good thing', that's actually the opposite of what we want in Security research. Critical flaws and bugs from even 15 or 20 years ago can lead to major breakthroughs in modern Virus technology, either as a preventative measure, or on the malicious side. Although its not common, its definetly far from unheard of for old viruses to turn into something used in modern OS and environments.

    honestly I think Fukushi Masaichi was kind of a cool weird guy. He became interested in tattoos because during his research in syphilis, he found that the ink in tattoos killed syphilis skin lesions or something. Not only would he collect these tattoos, he would help people pay for their tattoos to be completed (you can imagine full body tats would be expensive). People would even donate their bodies to him upon their death because they really respected him!

    It is a shame his works were lost to such a degree in the Allied bombings, and that there is so little about him translated and up on the English wikipedia. Even to Japanese people today he must be seen as strange. These are a people that find a man with a single sleeve tattoo to be potentially a little odd or even dangerous. A man in the 1950s collecting gangster's skins and writing research on how to preserve human skin when removed from bodies? I am sure he was an incredibly fascinating man but translated sources are far and few between and the Japanese probably aren't massively keen about his life. More motivation to study!

    First off, thanks for the many hours of entertainment. Over the last few weeks I have been watching each of these Lost Media icebergs vids in succession, usually passively as I work on other things. I think iceberg videos are great for this kind of viewing, and your presentation style, relaxed but friendly, casual but authoritative, really makes the passive listening/watching experience enjoyable. I hope you won’t mind if I offer a little review of this iceberg, and by extension the video series overall. Most of this has a lot more to do with the iceberg itself than you, so I hope you won’t take it too personally. Frankly, I think it’s kind of a poorly-made iceberg that seems excessively biased towards things the creator of the iceberg is personally interested in, rather than things that meet some sort of objective criteria of being “important lost media.” I have no problem with “importance” being broadly defined, but I think there should still be standards. If I was making a lost media iceberg, I would begin by establishing some clear rules for what gets in or doesn’t get in. You know, criteria like “has this media been a topic of considerable discussion or curiosity” or “is this media’s ‘lost’ status unique or unusual in some way” or “would the discovery of this lost media be culturally, politically, or technologically significant if ever discovered?” And I would be inclined to sort the entries on the iceberg according to these metrics. Considering that there is, in theory, a practically infinite amount of “lost media” out there, including millions of deleted websites, removed videos, un-digitized newspapers or magazines, unrecorded TV broadcasts, un-transcribed speeches, etc, there has to be some standard of what qualifies a piece of lost media as “noteworthy.” Otherwise any attempt to make a list will be entirely arbitrary. And I think that’s the case with this iceberg. There seems to be very little overarching principle determining what gets in or doesn’t. Again, it seems heavily biased towards things the creator himself cares about, or is aware of - including stuff relating to video games, heavy metal music, anime, and even more esoteric stuff, like Polish culture (which is where I assume he is from) “screamer” videos, and children’s flash games from the early 2000s. Stuff relating to political history, literature, and religion, is at best just peppered in here and there, seemingly as an afterthought, while (say) random musings from Redditors about a video someone thinks they saw once, or footage of some GameCube game that was cancelled for perfectly logical reasons, are given way more credulous attention than seems warranted. Many entries also suffer from a severe lack of proof - proof is obviously a somewhat slippery concept when it comes to lost media, but I also think in more cases than not, there should be a higher standard than just “some guy thinks this existed.” I didn’t feel like the iceberg was progressing “deeper” as the videos went on; it was hardly obvious how it was decided that say, some obscure iPhone app deserved to be on level four but an equally obscure missing album track from an unpopular band deserved to be on level six. Anyway, just some thoughts. Again, I overall enjoyed watching all these videos and I give you a lot of credit for the amount of time it took to put all this together. I know it’s laborious, but also very satisfying, to complete a giant project like this, and for that I have nothing but respect. I would be keen to hear your review of the iceberg having gone through it all. At times, I could definitely hear frustration in your voice when you were analyzing some of the entries, but I also felt like you were maybe a bit hesitant to judge the iceberg’s creator, given you’d made the commitment to getting through it all. But now that it’s all done, any reflections?

    Hello! Im the creator of the iceberg! And yeah i gotta admit that several of the entries in here are mostly focused on my biased and interests, but there are also organized on the obscurity of said entry! I had barely seen any people talk about the lost films of John Duncan or the Yucatan Tape so that's why they are so low, i also valued the biased of the LMW Community, since they usually tend t focus on the search of tv series, animations, bumpers and sometimes video games, that's why material such as recordings of important events like the first audio recordings of american presidents, important films like The Mystery of the Red Barn or books like the third part of the Comedy by Plato are missing from this iceberg. Besides that this being one of my first icebergs made (i have recently finished another one with 2400 entries that have more entries about history and history of other cultures like the first ukranian Television broadcast). Also, i have succesfully tricked somebody into believing im polish lmao, i don't even speak that language, but im a foreigner nontheless lol, argentinian. Anyways, thanks for the criticism and for enjoying this iceberg!

    @@equarep1725 Hey thanks for responding. I guess what I would say, in addition to the feedback I gave above, is that “obscurity” cannot just mean “people don’t talk about it.” Because if that is your standard, like I said, there is a literally infinite amount of media that meets that category. You could have an iceberg where the bottom is nothing but deleted pages from hardware store websites in small towns in Uzbekistan. No one is talking much about those! No, I think the standard has to be higher. I think “obscurity” should be measured by the amount of passion a community has about finding a piece of media when compared to how well-known to the general public that community is. So for example, I thought the shower curtain was a good example of a story about an obscure bit of lost media, because there is clearly an organized community obsessed with solving that relatively unimportant mystery, which most people have no idea exists. Overall, however, I think the most important organizing principle of a lost media iceberg should be the *significance* of the lost media. Media that would have dramatic consequences for society and culture if found, and therefore media that is frustrating, depressing, upsetting, or suspicious to hear is lost.

  • @equarep1725

    @equarep1725

    @@JJMcCullough i mean, yeah i guess that's right but a lil part of the iceberg chart community is the organization, mostly everbody in that community agrees that entries should be organized from more known to least known, i guess we could make a case with what you said about stupidly obscure media that doesn't have much value of it but measuring value is always something hard to do, what isn't valuable for a lot of people may be valuable to a select group. Besides another reason of the organization that i didn't mentioned was a lil bit of a "shock" factor, when somebody thinks about lost media the least thing they would expect would be a weird experimental film screened to 8 individuals and then destroyed, lost photographic evidence of an UFO or a lost tape of an alleged giant bird and i guess that surprising the expectator with something weird and wacky is something that i tried achieving. Once again thanks for the feedback and for replying !

    the blowfly girl blog post is actually real (or at least the Blogspot part) the story is lost to a certain point before August 22, 2009, when multiply deleted her profile With pics and other stories. She said in her first Blogspot post "The only other place my pics were saved was on a PC at work". so there it is while I don't doubt blowfly girl is false, I wouldn't be surprised if she actually did those. there's another story people say is lost which is quoted by her as "second time" It's basically one about dead deer on I94. I suggest not searching for more, it's really filthy and horrible the things in that Blogspot, but as far as I want to believe there was no pic of the deeds itself more of random stuff she did in the day for example. now excuse me, cuz I will go to therapy.

    About "never_open_it rar": I actually read the original russian urban legend a few years ago. I would honestly consider it a death file creepypasta, akin to something like morgeana glas gesgorov, or other spooky computer files that mess with you. A thing I remember very clearly is the image inside being described as "a static GIF file", which means that it's not actually animated. The second thing, there was a mock-up of this supposed rar file on the website I read the story on. And I actually have it downloaded on my laptop. The "scariest image ever" inside is nothing interesting sadly, it's just a black and white image of a lady dressed in a very puffy Victorian dress, with heavy makeup on, which kinda makes her look uncanny, but not really

    It's been a journey; glad I was here for majority of it as it was being released. It was a nice treat seeing these pop-up on my subscription feed. It's a little sad, but it's not like the end of your channel or anything 😅 Just the end of the largest iceberg series I have ever watched.

    Speaking of Doom WADs, It's likely that both the alleged Columbine High School WAD by Eric Harris and the Erfurt School by Robert Steinhauser never likely existed in the first place. (36:03, 52:01) For the Columbine one, if the dates of his WAD files, his journal entries and the Basement Tapes is anything to go by, I would speculate that the rumored Columbine Doom WAD only existed privately on Harris' computer somewhere between September 1996 and early April 1999 before he probably deleted it off his computer. As for the Erfurt one, My speculations are that it probably only existed privately on Steinhauser's computer somewhere between late-August 2001 to probably mid-April 2002 before he probably also deleted it off his computer.

    the funniest part about the entry at 8:03 is that it was never really "lost media", both songs from it have been on the creator's youtube channel for years and could have been easily found, it was just the digital release of the album that was deleted. btw the songs are pretty good and you should give them a listen if you like vocaloid

    Amazing video!! "I've not done with it entirely" so, if you are someday gonna continue this iceberg, well i saw that one of the entries at the final layer was "Giant Horde Beast Nezura", it is a ginat kaiju movie made in 1964 by Daiei featuring real rats and a "Mammoth Nezura" (that was a guy in a suit) attacking miniature citites, the film was cancelled because of the whole rat situation, but there is supposedly a lost trailer of the movie that aired in Japanese televisions. There is a documentary of this whole thing made in 2020 called "Nezura 1964", and a video by Paper Finz that covers this topic.

    Great list! The Niepce entry about the 'first photograph' needs some correction: the 'photo' of Pope Pious was actually made with a print of the pope and a contact print made through a light sensitive engraving process. His first photograph made through a lithographic process was a landscape that took multiple days to expose.

    I’m a bit late to the party and I’m currently at the first 30 seconds of the vid, but I’m proud of you man! Glad to have seen your content improve, and hear you become more confident in your videos-especially in comparison to your first vid (which I’m forever grateful that YT recommended your channel to me) Much love and kudos to you, dude, keep up the amazing work. Now excuse me as I build stuff on MC while this plays in the BG LMAO. ❤️

    I have another entry! A big case of Italian lost media is Gatto Evaristo, a 1973 cartoon very similar to Gatto Silvestro (Sylvester the cat from Sylvester and Tweety). Two of the episodes were recovered, but one of them has no audio and we basically don't know anything about it. The youtuber yotobi has made a video about it.

Edit : THERE ARE YUME NIKKI DEMOS?!?!?!??!?! I NEED THEM TO GET FOUND NOW
