@@spacewolfblackmane19 Honestly yes but I like contrasting brute dynamics it adds substance to the lore. Taratus was good as he was the embodiment of what a Brute is and what they stand for as a race. But Atriox was also a good edition to Halo because he showed us that not every brute can be a powerful and effective leader just by being intimidating. Atriox should us that Brute can be a deadly and cunning leader. Like being an expert chess player anticipated his enemies next moves however not immune to the Brute rage when the battle outcome didn't always ended as Intended. But also realized early on that if he gave some level of value and respect to his troops it would be good for banished troop morale and slowing down any doubt or revolting in his leader ship. Don't get me wrong he knew when to put his pack in line he just knew that if you constantly being hard ass on your troops it might lead to revolts. And its not like he put a huge value on grunts either. But just little more than covenant as he saw them as useful man power and that he didn't appreciate his brute soldiers killing them senselessly for sport. Voridious was interesting because he was the young strong headed maverick kinda off officer that kind of got him into more bad situations than being of real benefit to him or the banished ass hole. But some times his methods offered creative solutions to the banished problems. However having said that has given Atriox more tension headaches than he ever bargained for from voridious. And then we have Voridious's Older brother Pavium who is the well disciplined voice of reason for the Banished. Stead fast but very patient as well as he's trying to come up with reasons why Atriox should smash Voridious's head in by now while also realizing he can't keep covering his younger brothers ass for his fuck ups even he knows he not safe from Atriox's wrath to. But again he is a steadfast and inspiring leader for the banished during frustrating and challenging setbacks for the Banished because he seems to have level of patience and understanding a typical of brutes his willingness to not leave a brute behind because of past situations of abandoning his brothers still haunt him. His disciplined but fair approach to leadership with in the banished improves the morale and gain the respect of his troops as well gains the respect of Atriox because he can entrust one his brutes to lead his forces effectively when he has more important things to take care of personally even though he doesn't show it because he also frustrated with pavium enabling his younger brother to continue being reckless with out consequence. Voridious appeals to the young rebellious brutes with in the banished which can be both a good and bad thing as it allows for more creative and outside the box tactics. But it also makes for more reckless and disobedient troops. Where as Pavium appeals to the older more experienced brutes with in the Banished as they see him as a model leader under Atriox who can show true leadership while at the same time not resorting to typical brute behaviour that would alienate his troops. His ability to inspire and rally his most steadfast troops while at the same time knowing to not when to retreat in a well organized fashion minimizing casualties as much as possible showing that the brutes and even grunts under his command will not be left behind to die if they follow his his well disciplined lead in organized fashion. And will be quick to punish those that choose the every man for themselves mentality especially when dealing with something as deadly as the flood. I know I went on rant there. I mean its nice to have your Taratuses and Decimuses as they are the symbols and foundations of what Brutes are and the code they live by for the most part. But its always good have some Wild Cards against the grain. Like the Deadly cold and calculating Atriox as focused on the big picture for the banished's goals and how plan his next moves in the deadly game of chess against the UNSC. While taking frustrating setbacks in stride. At the same time having Voridious constantly getting into trouble with his experimental blunders and the need for adventure that is not only testing the patience of his brother Pavium, but Atriox as well. To Pavium being this well Disciplined and steadfast leader. That surprisingly has large amount of patience, understanding and even empathy to his troops well at least his fellow brutes that he commands. Which is almost unheard of for Brutes. Which is good for Brute serving under Paviums command because if you pull your weight and show valor among the banished ranks. Pavium will not forget you and your efforts he will ensure you are not left behind not only in body but in spirit as well if you die in battle. I am not saying Pavium is a pushover. But he offers a nice alternative to leadership he expects a lot of his troops but he also understands that good leaderships isn't always through intimidation and fear among subordinates only use such tactics when a subordinate has committed a severe reckless act that would put his squad members or the mission itself in at risk of failure. He shows that to be good leader one must inspire and encourage his troops to be the best soldiers they can be . Anywhere from praises to previous successful missions to rallying battle weary and exhausted troops to just push on once more in attempt to gain victory over the enemy. But that is just my opinion and what I had noticed lol.

@yagdtigercommander
3 жыл бұрын
@@anjoedaviscatholic9143 well he was more in the sense of being a typical brute leader. Now having said that Tartarus was pretty tame even for being your typical brute commander. As Brutal and threating as he appeared. He at least was a bit more forgiving than some of his predecessors or contemparies. I mean Atriox is a saint compared to Tartarus in terms of forgivening the blunders of subordinate officers. But Tartarus would give you a chance at least to redeem yourself.
@yagdtigercommander

Also the fact he would use threats but threats he would make good on to. Some brutes would just kill an incompetent underling without giving a second chance. At least if you gained Tartarus's respect as a warrior under his command he might just spare your life for your first major epic fail under him. But again Tartarus is more dangerous in terms of fantasism and short fuse made him a violent and unstable adversary.

If Craig becomes the new Thel, it'd be quite funny, especially if Thel comes back at one point and the 3 dudes pack together.
I always assumed in my own head canon that Brute armor was once entirely dependent on which pack/faction they were in - the Halo Wars 1 pack, the pack that was part of the invasion of Reach, and the Tartarus’s pack on Delta Halo/High Charity, were all different Brute factions with their own armor style and hair style. Maybe their aesthetic said something about the values of the pack (or faction containing multiple packs): perhaps the Reach Brutes were very traditional, and donned the ornate, almost ceremonial traditional armor of their species, while Tartarus’s pack was wild and aggressive, using very little armor and basically operating as half-naked berserker warriors. It’s not really something given a ton of development in canon, but it’s fun for me to distinguish the different groups and give them their own personalities in my head canon. Then once the Schism happens and the Brutes take on role of the elites, they are given new armor and standardized into a uniform fighting force with very little distinction between groups, creating the more Covenant-looking Bruges we see hundreds of in Halo 3.
@zoeadkins9095
3 жыл бұрын
Always had a similar thought, actually. The Halo 3 Brute power armor comes across as crudely made and rapidly produced, by Covenant standards, so I'm willing to buy that this armor was distributed quickly.
@TeenageMutantZuckerTurtle
3 жыл бұрын
Austin Stout Exactly, The brutes we’re always a niche, somewhat underused force in the Covenant until the schism. For them to take on the role of the elites, they couldn’t be running around in nothing but loincloths and bandoliers anymore. In canon, they needed power armor and needed it fast, so it had to be designed and mass-produced quickly, hence the low quality by Covenant standards. Honestly I don’t think that was a consideration in making the games: Brutes were undercooked bullet sponges in Halo 2 (the devs admitted this themselves), and they were changed to be elite-replacements in Halo 3 but were a bit weak, leading to the devs trying to balance the weakness out by throwing more of them at you at once. But just because it wasn’t made with lore in mind doesn’t mean that we can’t find a way to explain it from a lore perspective after the fact.
@kristihenriques3281
3 жыл бұрын
Well there is actually a lore reason for why some Brutes look different than others. In Jiralhanae (the species name just in case you didn't know) culture, there exist a thing called a Skein. Skeins are, as Halopedia describes them, "a major social division in Jiralhanae society, formed out of multiple clans sharing a similar philosophy and common interests" and "profoundly different in culture, philosophy, and their pursuit of power." As far as we know, there are two major skeins: Rh'tol and Vheiloth, though I believe that there are more that we just haven't seen yet. The Rh'tol are considered more primitive and less open to new ideas whereas the Vheiloth are more sophisticated and open to new ideas. Tartarus himself was part of the Rh'tol skein, which is he and his brutes were hairy and wore not much armor. As far as Halo wars 1 and Reach Brutes go, I think it's safe to say they are members of the Vheiloth skein, since they were shaven and wore armor. And going into Halo 3, I think Truth just didn't care about it and ordered the Brutes from both skeins to wear the armor we see in 3. So you aren't wrong in that depending on which pack/faction/skein they're a part of, that will influence how each dresses and arms themselves for battle.
@zoeadkins9095
3 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine new Skeins would rise in the aftermath of the Fall of the Covenant and the existent ones would have restored, pre-Covenant relevance in Brute society. Especially since the Jiralhanae are locked in a two-front war amongst themselves and against the Elites. Then you have organizations like the Banished, who seem to care little for Skein membership or allegiance.

The Brutes definitley have a strange history in the games, lol. I believe Halo 3 had the best gameplay execution of the Brutes, Halo 2, especially Anniversary, has the best design for them, I have a particular liking for the armor designs of Halo: Reach, and the Banished are my absolute favorite post-War faction in Halo lore. Their combination of the Brute's traditional barbarism with a more practical mindset and advanced technology was already more interesting to me than the re-hashed Storm Covenant.
@shadowtear101
3 жыл бұрын
When comparing the Storm Covenant to the Banished I always considered the Storm Covenant to be a person trying to relive their glory days. The Storm Covenant had no clear goals or a capable leader, Jul M'dama just didn't cut it. Just look at M'dama's Covenant, they had to resort to using older models of existing Covenant vehicles and weapons like the Wraith and the Beam rifle. On the other hand the Banished had Atriox who not only had clear goal in mind but had the skills, finnese, experience, and tactical prowess to achieve said goals and garner a large amount of followers to his cause. The Banished even managed to improve on existing designs of Covenant vehicles while also being capable of inventing and manufacturing their own new weapons and vehicles to add to their already existing arsenal.

Agreed. I get that Covenant remnant factions would pop up, but they couldn't have made them more disinteresting. Just the OG Covenant only smaller in size, with weaker forces, and delegated to disposable minions for the Didact and SkyNet Cortana. There's no weight to them and any threat they posed feels miles away, especially since they're so easily defeated in both Halo 4 and 5. The stark art style change and humanity's sudden rise to becoming a galactic superpower didn't help their appeal either, in my opinion.

They are whey to easy to kill and when they go berserk they are just traing to help you hit them, let's not forget about how they never try to close the gap betwen them and you exept if they are a chieftain, and finaly they will try to shoot at you from far away even if they are using a spiker. I always wanted one as well, though tbh since their armor is always breakable I do wonder how healthy echarge and shield recharge would work
due to yap yap being non canon in hw2, and the grunt riders are exclusive to him, i think its pretty safe to say that the riders are non canon
Halo 3 really did not distinguish the colors all that well. The captain, captain ultra and bodyguard all look the same as well as the major and ultra.

Yeah it just the same armor Halo 3 art style is so lackluster and lazy but brute should have looked more intimidating to and should have all had complete different armor looks either one of the reasons why Halo 3 will always be my least favorite Halo.

The least they could've done was put clolured markings or forerunner symbols onto the armour to help players differentiate.
FYI, the brute you listed as Parabum is actually Lydus, from Halo: Escalation

you didnt talk about the armors you wanted for multiplayer

8:19 actually I believe the slash mark on the flag is the icon for the skane/clan tartarus is a part of. His clan preferred more traditional technology and culture and is one of the two dominant cultural groups during the civil war that brought brute civilization into the stone age I believe
I like how I brought up playable brutes first and no one agreed with me until Xperia says something about it.
By far the most in depth committed and just best in general Halo channel. So good 🙌
The Brute Stalker will forever be my favorite variant of a Brute
You forgot the other ranks of jumpack brutes that appeared in ODST!
Mate, I’ve been DYING to see a video on this exact topic. Can’t wait to finally be back up against these big monkey bois in Halo: Infinite! 🙌🏼
Imagine if in Halo Infinite we had three classes of playable species with different attributes Spartans would be fairly balanced and simular to what they currently are Elites could have weaker shields, faster movement and integrated camo for 15 seconds. Then also have increased battery and lunge rang for energy swords Then brutes have more health, and shields don't regenerate after depletion, and when you lose shields have speed, melee damage and jump height/distance increase
@TheNavigator4552

I don't like that, it would definitely creat a type of meta and possibly ruin the fair start gameplay we love.
@saltedhorsemeat4843
Жыл бұрын
@@TheNavigator4552 yeah Reach had a much fairer integration of different race stats anyways, Spartans are standard gameplay while Elites are slightly faster but are huge and tall targets, there have been many times where I can still snipe at Elite players trying to take cover and moments where I get shot in turn So with that logic I would make Brute players have a fair bit more HP if unshielded but balance it out with a huge center of mass you literally cannot miss against if you have an automatic weapon, otherwise they’re functionally the same to Spartans and Elites
So on that brute hair thing: I remember reading that there were two major Jiralhanae groups, called Skeins. The most prominent difference was one, the Rh'tol tended to let their hair grow wild, halo 2, and the other, the Vheiloth, shaved their hair or kept it cleaner cut (Reach, 3, Halo Wars 1&2, and from what we've seen, Infinite) Another interesting little tidbit, the bald brutes often tattooed their bodies, which you can see in the Reach Minors, I believe.

5:46 I think they've earned the rank to use the hammer in combat as practice to start earning the rank of Chieftain. If they die, they weren't worthy. If they killed many foes without dying, they're worthy of the hammer and Chieftain rank.
Tbh I just love these Brute Riders: it basically increases Brute's damage & gives the Grunts a tiny chance of stop being cannon fodder that won't be needed anyway.
Imagine being able to use the bloodstars/silent shadow members’ armor in multiplayer in infinite, I would be TERRIFIED to see an enemy approaching me with such armor
It always bother me almost all the brute ranks in 3 all use blue. I always thought the green ones were ultra and ones with the full day face helmets were the majors
I know that this is late and easily answered by game art style changes happening but playing Halo and seeing all the various iterations of what was supposed to be the same enemy type just from different games gave me a feeling like these armors are slightly different because of certain areas they’re being deployed in/different war chiefs they’re deployed under all the way down to the Minor classes. If each war chief would be equivalent to like a country leader on earth when on their home planet then it’d be like setting a British infantryman next to an American infantryman. You’d get they were the same job but their aesthetic is slightly different. Then lore wise you’re just fighting different chief’s soldiers each game
So excited to have new lore videos to watch. Kick ass vid, man!

I think the reason the brute minors had very little armor on their body in reach was because most the covenant fleets that attacked reach were some of the most skilled and experienced covenant soldiers in the entire covenant. And so, because of their very good experience, they required very little armor protection

Yes I been waiting for video for brute ranks, keep up the great work hiddenxperia, love your videos.👍
The Brute removed his helmet and silently sank into his chair. He is a Jiralhanae. A mighty warrior of the Banished. Yet he was seen as nothing more than a joke to their enemies. 'Monke' they called him. He growled at the thought. He would like to see one human, any human, who can look defiant when taking a strike from the so-called Demon that bought down the Covenant. "This seat is free, yes?" He looked around to the source of this strange voice, that hissing, insectoid chattering. He saw an Eliksni, clad in purple, yet his kind had no place within the Covenant. "Fine, take it." the Brute gruffly responded as the Eliskni sat down. "You seem...troubled." The Eliksni observed. "Mocked over your name, yes?" the Brute growled at this. "Too often, I have been referred to as 'Craig.'" He explained. "Some ridiculous human name." "Craig?" The Eliksni pondered this. "Yes, I too have an unusual human-derived title." He held out on of his four hands. "Randel. Eliksni Vandal of the House of Dusk." Craig shook his hand. "What do they call you then?" He asked, his frustration giving way to curiosity. "Randall the Vandal." Randel answered. "Since my time in the House of Devils, I have been denied ascension in the ranks because of this. 'Too funny' the Kells called it. You know what that's like, yes?" "Yeah." Craig growled with a smile. "I get that too."

Love the video, I'm so happy you finally did a video on the brutes. I'm so fascinated by their military, culture, etc. However, I was hoping that would cover the rank of some of Atriox's lieutenants such as Decimus, voridus, and pavium. Their ability to wear unique and bulky power armour on the field with their lower-ranking troops makes for an interesting and cool looking silhouette. Still, great video :)
Tartarus's position in the Covenant was always confusing. Thanks for clearing that up.

Maybe the fact that Tartarus’s brutes have more hair then other brutes is because they are from a small subspecies of brute. A subspecies unique in their own way, yet still closely related to the less hairy brutes that we see more often.
Hey, I would like to have Brutes as playable characters. Like a Burte Juggernaut against a bunch of ODST marines. Just give the Brutes the same Power Armor 🔋 mechanic from H3, and when it breaks you can activate a berserk mode. Also have the ODSTs stamina used for sprinting and clambering and not just a weaker spartan shield with a diffrent name.
I like how everyone calls them monkeys, when they're actually defined as "pseudo-ursine mammals", aka bears. (look up what a shaved bear looks like, and you'll see something like a brute.)

Never seen a hairless bear before up untill 3min ago. I legit flinched and thought I made a typo in the search bar after I seen a picture of one. Holy fuck those things are freaky looking😂😂
The Jiralhanae are kinda like the Hollywood version of a mix between Varingians and Mongols. They first serves in an empire, then they "evolve"(?) In a sort or raiding kingdom uch a khanate. Fashinating. Definitely one of my favorite species of Halo.
love the new intro, its a great prospective showing your enthusiasm for the sangheli from halo
If brutes are playable but elites aren’t I’m gonna be disappointed. Then again if only Spartans are playable I’ll also be disappointed anyway.
