Caesar Trilogy (new planet of the Apes) is my second favorite trilogy. It’s no where near as good or as awesome, but is a really good trilogy.

At that sound the bent shape of the king sprang suddenly erect. Tall and proud he seemed again; and rising in his stirrups he cried in a loud voice, more clear than any there had ever heard a mortal man achieve before: Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor! With that he seized a great horn from Guthlaf his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder. And straightway all the horns in the host were lifted up in music, and the blowing of the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains. Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor! Suddenly the king cried to Snowmane and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of green, but he outpaced it. After him thundered the knights of his house, but he was ever before them. Eomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first eored roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Theoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Orome the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. his golden shield was uncovered, and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. For morning came, morning and a wind from the sea; and darkness was removed, and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them. And then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the City.

I remember watching the charge for the first time as a kid; I was old enough to know Rohan had been getting its shit rocked for well close to a year- Gandalf puts it best "... And therein lies our challenge because Rohan is weak and ready to fall..." Any other king, any other monarch, any other of the line of Eorl, and perhaps Rohan does fall, it's king refuses help from Aragorn, from Legolas, from Gimli- he ignores the counsel of Gandalf. But not Theoden, not the son of Thengel. Theoden rallies his people, with no incentive to- his son dead, his kingdom in tatters, his youth gone, the opposition overwhelming, open war upon him with him already on the defensive. This all crescendos to him looking upon the fields of Pelanno; to where, he knows, he will die. "Before the walls of Minith Tirith, the doom of our people will be decided." He is scared, as all his riders are- some 6000 heavy cavalry. Until Theoden rallies his men and sends them into the enemy screaming "Death!" And for 2000, it is true, they die- including Theoden himself. But Rohan endures. The line of Eorl endures. All thanks to Theoden, son of Thengel.

On a small note, Rohan riders are not regular heavy cavalry by any mean, they are mostly militia horse archers, light, harrassing cavalry, they do not have heavy cavalry lances but light spears than can double as javelins. But in both the battle of Helm Deep and Minas Tirith, there is no time for a long harrassing battle. Those lightly armored riders have to charge a pike block battleline straight ahead to relieve the breached fortress, something they have never done before, mostly fighting only small orcs warbands skirmishing around their villages for all their live. So the fact they follow king Theoden in such a charge is even more impressive.

I have watched lord of the rings many times. This scene, the music in the background and his speech always touched my heart and before I noticed there were tears on my cheeks

When the beacon of hope seemed extinguished to the world, they came to reignite it. When the light of day seemed forever shrouded to the world, they came to chase away the darkness. Though exhaustion weighed heavily their limbs, they raised their blades to war. Though fear shackled their hearts and souls, they roared their defiance and victory to the sky. The enemy's host was seem set to overwhelm them, but they would not be deterred. The enemy's might seemed unbeatable, but they would not falter. Valiantly they rode, to the great war beyond. Bravely they charged, to determine the fate of many. As a wave crashes to the shore, so did they break upon their enemy. And that day...the orcs of Mordor knew the fury of Rohan.

I don't want to be that guy who points something that you cant unsee, but I think Gimli is missing, Aragorn is to the right of Mithrandir, Legolas is to the left, but I don't see Gimli. I would assume he rides with Legolas as per the norm. Alas, I don't see any darker colors behind Legolas nor anything that would resemble Gimli's wide frame
