there is actually a longer starcraft 2 game: ZhuGeLiang vs Lillekanin went on for 4h 10min (won by ZhuGeLiang), it was so long that one of the casters decided to make pancakes during the game. this also happened fairly early during an open qualifier for the world championship series, so the schedule was... quite delayed. though it's also worth mentioning that back then (also when the firecake vs mana was played), the in-game time went faster than real time. so the 4h 10min game was "only" a bit over 3 hours of real time.

The glitches in the DOTA 2 game remind me of the one braindead strategy in Dead by Daylight where the killer's goal, yes their intended win condition, was to stall for TWO HOURS (or until the survivors made a bad enough mistake to throw you the game, or they gave up and let themselves die) which was when the server discontinued the connection and killed all the survivors. For non-DBD players, a DBD match is typically 10-20 minutes. A long one might be 35

those particle glitches in the dota 2 game happened as a result of some sort of memory leak or overflow, triggered from how those specific heroes in that game had a lot of spells that generated particle graphics. i doubt anyone had seen that glitch before that game, because matches were never meant to last that long, and even if they last long, its no guarantee the right heroes are picked for the particle bug to occur. This glitch really enhances the aesthetics and legend of that one match

u should actually add the series of ESL One Birmingham that just ended recently, the China Close Qualifier Azuray vs G2.IG BO5, where the series ended spanning nearly eight hours in total or 5.5 hours of actual in-game duration. and 2 of that 5 game ended in more than an hour, and the rest 3 games is pretty late game.

The Xnova curse lol. He also played in RNG vs Entity in TI11 on the main stage for more than 2 hours for 1 game. And he did that playing alone on stage while his other teammates were quarantined due to covid. He played next to teddy bears on stage lol.

As an upcoming indie developer, I found Swarm Hosts in HOTS egregious that it's not bad game balance, *it's terrible game design.* Free units should not be as powerful or frequent than a Marine or a pair of Zerglings.

I'm kinda disappointed you didn't mention LR5 SuPeRbOoMfAn vs Gerson game 1 in smash 64, the game took roughly 52 minutes and 15 seconds, average smash 64 game time currently is around 4 minutes and back then was 6-8, and is one of the major reason smash 64 went from 5 stocks to 4 and is now modded to have a timer in tournaments.

haha I remember that. That game is the only reason why they considered a timer for SM64.

I was hoping to see Sonic time someone out in Smash. If you increased the timer by a couple of hours I wouldn’t doubt it could go on that long.

The longest recorded set in smash history is superboomfan vs. gerson from smash 64 if i remember correctly. It was like almost 2 hours long,m mainly due to the fact that there was no timer, and it was played on hyrule castle in a matchup where approaching wouldve meant a certain stockloss. which is why game one took almost an hour. i think the longest timed recorded smash match still goes to john numbers vs. sinji at waypoint warriors 1 in 2020. Wii Fit vs. Pacman. Both Characters which are somewhat hit and run, and normally could rack up massive damage once they get in. In that MU though, you have to play them very defensively, which led to several timeouts.
