YES!! Fun fact: When Audiences saw the original test screwing, Samuel Jackson dies, but when a member saw that, she said, "YOU CAN'T KILL SAM JACKSON!" Renny Harlin had to reshoot the scene where he survives. In one darker draft of the script, Mitch, Jackson's character, was a cop who took bribes from mob bosses and gangsters went to prison where he was raped, but fought back against the killers he put behind bars. Charlie's backstory was that she had an abusive father whom she killed, then joined the CIA to become an assassin.

Charlie was Bourne with ovaries before there was a Jason Bourne. This was written by Shane Black, the first modern rock n roll screenwriter. He came on the scene fully realized with his first script sold, a little experimental European art film called Lethal Weapon. Then The Last Boy Scout. Then this one which came right after the Geena Davis big budget bomb Cutthroat Island and weary audiences stayed away not knowing this was an instant classic . So, it bombed hard and went into not only obscurity, but oblivion as it has yet to experience any kind of reassessment or resurgence to finally have it's due. It has aged beautifully like it was shot tomorrow. Shane Black went on to not only write, but direct Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which was also an undeservingly unseen bomb at the time. However, this one has gotten a redemptive second life due to Robert Downey Jr. and his high profile in the MCU causing his back catalogue to get retro love. The critics got it though in real time. It's universally praised. It's also the best use of unreliable narrator before it got ruined by every lazy horrible Hollywood hack for their scripts to hide bad writing and plot holes than character motivation. Shane followed it up with The Nice Guys and it is massively underrated with a iconic comedic deft turn by Ryan Gosling doing true character work. He is unlike anything he's every done before or since. The actress playing his daughter is sublime. Defines check this one out if you like Black's writing. The action written in the movie and choreography is smart, inspired and breathtaking. Renny H who directed and was married to Geena Davis at the time showed what he could do with a smart script. Thank you Jennifer Lawrence for inventing the female action hero, the action genre, light, gravity, cold fusion, the Dobbler effect, uniformaterrarium. Other wise, we wouldn't have nice things or this cinematic masterpiece.

At the end when TBR asks Samantha "What'd you think?" Her reply "I...LOVED that" made me so happy lol. This movie has some of my favorite dialogue. The way Shane Black writes just kills me. Between this and The Last Boyscout I think this is Shane at his best. Of course Lethal Weapon changed the game, and his later films, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys are amazing as well. He's like the Aaron Sorkin of buddy action/comedies.

For the record, you should absolutely watch "kiss kiss bang bang" as well, it's another Pseudo-Noire written (and directed unlike this movie) by Shane Black, which could explain why you're conflating them in your head. I heard an interview with Shane Black where he said he will read old pulp detective paperbacks and crime novels, and even though they are not usually good books they will have one good story element or twist in them that he wants to use for a script, so he finds who has the rights to the book and buys those rights for himself, that way he can use the elements of the story and not be accused of plagiarism, since as he's now the owner of the story he can adapt elements of the book however he sees fit, and since these stories are old and out of print it costs him next to nothing. "Kiss kiss bang bang" is his movie where you can see him do this the most and it really shines as a noire movie because of it. (Also, Val Kilmer is phenomenal in it opposite Robert Downey Jr and Michelle Monaghan as the leads)

I absolutely love this movie. Directed by Geena's then husband who also made Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea Written by Shane Black, who always delivers sharp and whitty dialogue, always a buddy team up movie, and always takes place during Christmas (except for the two he wrote with Fred Dekker, Monster Squad and The Predator) He also wrote Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, Last Action Hero. And wrote/directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys, and The Predator. He was also the guy cracking jokes in the first Predator. As far as Craig Berkio is concerned, I think he is extremely underrated and you should check out the boxing movie he made with Russell Crowe, The Cinderella Man

Fun fact (sorta, I guess?): Brian Cox in this film plays a man responsible for creating and monitoring the rise of a killer who develops amnesiac tendencies and has to be recalled. He also plays a man responsible for creating and monitoring the rise of a killer who develops amnesiac tendencies and has to be recalled in his blockbuster performance on the Bourne Identity. Later in his life he starred in a Marvel film playing a man responsible for creating and monitoring the rise of a killer who develops amnesiac tendencies and has to be recalled in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What I'm trying to say is that maybe, just maybe, he might be bad at his job.

The director Renny Harlin had a nice run of action movies in the mid-90: Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, this (which you have already seen on the channel) and a couple others you haven't seen: Deep Blue Sea and Cutthroat Island (also featuring Geena Davis). Other notable Geena Davis movies that you haven't watched for the channel: Beetlejuice, A League of their Own, Thelma & Louise; also the incredibly bizarre, Earth Girls are Easy.

An awesome and seriously underrated movie. The action is great, the comedic beats are plentiful and absolutely on point, and there's even a bit of family sentiment in there. It's quotable as hell, too. Brian Cox, for as briefly as he is in this movie, is excellent, too (as always). Davis and Jackson are, of course, great. Sam/Charly and Mitch Henessey are the comedic buddy movie duo/trio you didn't know you needed. Samantha Caine/Charly Baltimore is the strong female protagonist that so many movies today try to manufacture and totally fail at doing so. All the awesome stuff she does can simply be explained by the fact that she was trained to be a covert agent by elite experts in the government. It doesn't just happen because she's the greatest ever, she's not throwing 250 pound men with her bare hands or doing Cammy's Super Street Fighter 2 move so many modern female action characters do now, where they grab someone's head with their thighs and throw them! She uses weapons, even if she has to improvise them, she gets help from people around her, takes advantage of the bad guys letting their guard down... and, yeah, she gets her ass kicked in a big way, gets disarmed, and gets captured multiple times, rather than arriving at the end of the movie spotless and perfectly coifed. And she's all the better for it! She is an awesome character. It's a shame she doesn't get mentioned in the same breath as other great characters like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor.
