The Long Good Friday Main Title Theme Music - Full Version (The Stereo Mix)

Музыка

The Long Good Friday main title theme music has always been a favourite of mine and so I decided to update the full version to glorious STEREO.
To my knowledge, the music has only ever been available as a mono recording (in recent years, there has been a sort of stereo version, but it’s basically the mono track spread across the left and right channels - not what I would call true stereo), so, I thought it was time to mix the track and try and create a proper stereo experience - without straying too far from Francis Monkman’s brilliantly composed original masterpiece.
Starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren, The Long Good Friday is a 1980 British gangster film produced by Handmade Films. Bob Hoskins plays Cockney crime boss Harold Shand - a gangster trying to become a legitimate property mogul. He has big plans to get the American Mafia to bankroll his transformation of a derelict area of London into the possible venue for a future Olympic Games. However, a series of bombings targets his empire on the very weekend (Good Friday weekend) the Americans are in town. Shand is convinced there is a traitor in his organisation, and sets out to eliminate the rat in typically ruthless fashion. As the tagline from the original film poster says… “Who lit the fuse that tore Harold’s world apart?”
Francis Monkman (Ganga Publishing B.V.) provides a great score to the film and there are lots of recognisable faces belonging to actors who went on to make their names in British film and TV in the 80s and 90s.
No copyright infringement intended. This is a tribute remix born out of my love for the film. Copyright belongs to Handmade Films/Francis Monkman/Ganga Publishing B.V.

It's really a perfect theme that encapsulates this genre. The electronic start sets it in motion with a driving menace, but when the swinging horns come in, it takes you right to the swagger of hip London of the time.

For those of you older dart fans, you may remember this one as 2 Time World Champion and Legend of Darts , Dennis Preistley s Walk on music which he used for most of his Pro Darts Career .

Many people may not appreciate the work involved with making mono stems for a stereo mix and having the result sound professional, I definitely do! But getting the backing strings and synth fully mixed on the sound stage would’ve elevated this for me.

Bob Hoskins' expression changing as realisation dawns on him .... then the fantastic late 70s Synths kick in, then the sleazy horn section, and that electronic Dr Who bassline. It couldn't be a more perfect snapshot of that era. The end of the beige suit 70s and the start of the pinstripe suit 80s London. If ever a film deserved a sequel it was this. A missed opportunity to make a "Godfather 2" type film. A young Harry Shand on his way up, cut into a modern Docklands story.

Absolutely brilliant, this movie is amazing and reminds me of getting to spend many hours with Bob. He loved making this film and never realised the end sequence would be so influential

I’ve seen this film over the intervening 40+ years It’s the best gangster film ever made both here or across the pond The last few minutes of the film with Bob in the back seat of the car and Pierce pointing a gun at Bob No words -but Bob was just the best with his facial expressions /lack of them Francis Monkman - he died earlier this year🙏🙏🙏🫤🫤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
