Fun fact: corpse refers to a dead human while carcass is used for a dead animal! Only discovered this while playing this game

Use Crouch when leaving a building, and when walking up or down steep hills.

I recommend to always look behind sun visors in cars. There once fell a chocolate bar out of one of these when I opened it. I play the game since at least two years now and it only happened once. It is extremely rare but you may be lucky. Most people forget about these things.

Another very important tip would be to keep an eye on gear needing repair before they become ruined

Thank you so much, I've recently persuaded my dad to start playing The Long Dark and these videos are perfect!

Except on Interloper! Then your main adversary are the wolves (and Moose & Bears, but they're easier to avoid usually)! On interloper, if you survive the first few days (ie find matches and find/craft some clothes) you can survive for a long time ... until you meet a wolf!

I got a flute stuck in my... pocket. 2020 and on wards wont see movies like American Pie, people are too snowflakey.

Been playing this game now for about 2 weeks, and the I have no problems with the first 9 on this list. I've figured those ones out. The last tip on this list, I tend to have some problems with. I've already killed 2 of my playthroughs due to greed. lol. And even realizing my mistake, I still find myself tempted to go the extra distance, even if it might kill me. Need to continue working on that.

It was great to see all the highlights and clips from the series. Although considering the end of the previous episode (and your subsequent comments) it feels a little like a memorial and that is kind of sad.

I know this might be an outdated reply to a good old guide video, but I find many tips that are relevant even to this day. Also, the harvesting animal is a big tip. I once tried to get as many meat as I can from a bear, and upon harvest ten kg of meat, my character immediately got a sprained ankle, which I assume was that I might be on a slight slope during harvesting and it becomes encumbered once I am done.

Great to hear!

I started playing this game in November of 2018 and apparently they overhauled the UI somewhere between the making of this video and then. I actually really like the older icons and backpack. I can clearly see why they changed some of the UI as it's just more intuitive for some things; but sometimes it's fun to have form before functionality. I hope that in the future they decide to implement a "retro build" of the game so we can experience what it was like in the early days for those of us who missed it.

Pack the flare gun at the start defense is more important and medicinal plants and food is plentiful enough if you know where to look

They do cure if you put them in a container just VERY slowly. Thanks! I was scared to put them on the ground in case I lost them. Considering that you can drop water in one spot and it will stay there until you pick it up again I should have known!!

I do love the absence of an economy, it's unique. And yet the game is so engaging, beautiful, challenging, rewarding and sometimes downright mean :) No worries, I've been doing a lot of fishing at Mystery Lake and as far as I can tell as long as you have the tackle you can fish as much as you want. I've got a pile of fish outside the cabin; I can eat for days, maybe a week. :) Not to bother you, I know you're not my personal game guru :) , but have you found any of the bunkers? I've heard there is one in each region. Thanks for the chat.

I love it

Protip: Dying isn't fun, be a boring slob and use safe food methods like looting. Until you have to find it. If you don't have a rifle, or a bow. Probably don't bother with a knife! Because tons of people think it's button mashing that will save you. but word round' the playground is rhythmic tapping is what will get that not very friendly animal off you. Also, you can't fight back against bears or mooses (meese?) because they will shred you to 10% condition or break or ribcage. ALSO FROSTBITE IS PURE EVIL YOU ARE CAPPED AT 90% CONDITION FOREVER COVER UP KIDS.

Why does her UI look different

Hi there Foxy, Heavy spoiler ahead. But it's a piece of advice that I think belongs to the "I wish I knew" realm. Works in Voyager mostly. I think it's really very beneficial to plan really well the first 24-48 hours. Wolves are not yet spawned and one can travel quickly and effectively as long as he or she stays warm. First thing to do is to loot one bigger place, ASAP. Gather all the things needed to travel quickly and safely: clothes, food, tools, all the scrap metal, some firewood, etc. Eat hot food to keep warm while traveling. Go to Forlorn Muskeg or Desolation Point Pick up all the coal and firewood along the way, find a hammer. Important thing is to, at all cost, start forging arrowheads within first 36 hours of game time. If you don't have a hatchet by this time, make one too. The wolves will be out. Make bow, make arrows, if everything goes right, you'll end week 2 with some drying hides and first bear killed and harvested. Well supplied for some crafting. And you won't even need to find a rifle. Cheers!.

Was hoping this would work well for people like me who want to experience the game for themselves but also don't want to die on the 5th day(which I totally would have done if it wasn't for your help and others).
