THE LONELY BULL - 50 YEARS (Extended) - HERB ALPERT

Музыка

In 1962, Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss founded A&M Records, which became the world's largest independent record label. "The Lonely Bull" was their 1st hit single, reaching #6 on the Billboard chart. Sometime back around 1965 or 1966, I heard this song in Brazil, Salvador City in Bahia estado. Someone had loaned a record with this song, and my parents played that record several times and that song became something of a earwig that haunted me for about 58 years until I saw a PBS show (Amanpout & Company," I highly recommend it) because I first heard the song I assumed it was Brazilian in origin. But, when I saw the documentary I was blown away. I had finally found this song. Herb AAlpert is a brilliant composer and musician.

My father played the Whipped Cream album for us all the time when we were young. I played piano, but that's the reason I just HAD to play the trumpet! My father passed away 2 years ago this week. I took care of the music for his viewing and mass. The CD I made for his viewing started with "The Lonely Bull". So many were simply shocked with the trumpet fanfare, but it was PERFECT! My brother and sister were caught by surprise with it, but both of them, too, thought it was perfect. I still love listening to this. In fact, I have the trumpet part on my desk now! So bitter sweet, and the music just fills my heart with happy memories. Thank you to my Dad, too, for making this a part of my youth. For my father's 80th birthday, my big band played this for him . . . What a genuine smile it brought to his face . . . Please pass the kleenex!

Growing up, the ONLY music in the house was Herb Alpert. It was the only records my older brother bought besides Bill Cosby, and it never occurred to me to turn on the radio. To this day it's the only music I spend money on as I make my living repairing 8 track players.

Oh my gosh!!! This is absolutely great...I don't know where this came from but I'd like to see more of this kind of footage. More of the "REAL" live stuff, not the sync(ed) fake live performances. These musicians were all hand picked by Mr. Alpert and footage like this is a testament to their wonderful ability. Tonni Kalash seemed to take somewhat of a back seat at times and it's great that he got a little bit of the spotlight. Bob Edmondson was a wonderful talent and the heart and soul of the band. Even though Bob has had health problems and doesn't play anymore, I hope he's comfortable in his retirement. Nick Ceroli was a HUGE driving force on the drums and he was taken from us way too soon. Lou Pagani truly seemed to enjoy every minute of his tenure with the band and his passing is our loss forever. I am grateful that two amazing talents are still with us, John Pisano and Pat Senatore. Just think...nearly half of the band is no longer with us. All we can do is enjoy exceptional footage like this and be thankful for what they were. The band brought immense joy to me!

It's now March of 2022...60 years on. Born in 1962, Alpert and the TJB is the first music I remember from the mid '60s. Never fails to lift my spirits. The early tunes are actually a fascinating blend of jazz, mariachi, and a surf rock back beat. Am going to see Herb -- now 87 -- at The Birchmere in Alexandria VA on July 26th!

Played it every day when I was 10 years old. I told my older sister that it was a real pretty song but kind of sad and she explained that the musicians were trying to make us feel the way that the bull feels when he walks into the stadium all alone where 1000's of people are screaming for his death. They want to see him die just for the fun of it...made me sad as hell..still does..the Lonely Bull, indeed...
