The Little Prince begins with an account of how the pilot drew a picture when he was a child. His picture - he called it Drawing N°1 - shows an elephant swallowed by a boa constrictor - perfectly logical to him- but to adults it was just a drawing of a hat and they roundly mocked him.
When his plane crash-lands in the desert and the little prince appears at his side, asking him to draw a sheep and then declaring himself unsatisfied with the results, the pilot brings out his Drawing N°1. “No, no, no!” says the little prince, “ And this, the pilot tells us, is how he finally found someone who understood his drawing, and how he made the acquaintance of the little prince.

Perfect. My daughter painted a scene with the little boy and the Fox with words that said the line in the book about being responsible for the rose. It’s an incomplete painting as she was quite good with art but her hands wouldn’t let her finish it to a final polish. It’s on a roughly made but new bird house. It’s my treasure as she died at 33. She knew she was going to die and left me with lovely memories of her inner beauty. I wouldn’t sell that bird house for a million. It was her story. A life lived as best one could. Thank you, your video was perfect.

Then again, you could be him....which might be 10 times worse due to such a revelation inducing a mental breakdown in the best of men...or women. Sounds like an horrendously dark and gloaming tome? King Kong did for me during my formative years so, I don't know...i aint gonna indulge myself with it. I did something similar with Alice Walker’s The Temple of my Familiar. On a flight to Austin TX I sat next to a lady that asked me what I was reading. It was my second time reading it. Once was not enough. But I couldn’t explain the layers of this novel, although I tried. She was intrigued, I was almost done reading. I hurried up and finished it and gave it to her. I was happy to do it. I hope that book gave her a feeling that all good books do. Which is to say I hope she was transported into that world, much like The Little Prince.

My introduction to The Little Prince was through someone who was at a weekend house party with me. She and I were the first ones up on the Sunday morning, and she was reading TLP, preparing a lesson for students. She tried to tell me about the book, but she spoke no English, and my high school French was pretty basic. But I understood enough that I went out and got the book, in English, and have loved it ever since. My French is still pretty basic, but I'll never forget "renard", which means fox.❤

Unexpectedly I cried. It is so true, this book. What Saint Exupery lamented. But even then there is hope because we still see things through our heart. One of the most important gifts I gave my children is reading the Little Prince to them when they were four years old. It is a riot to play the part of the fox, and the drunk. Then read it with them again when they were eight. They meditate deeply into happiness and sadness. Even death and loss. And I will ask them to read it again when they are twenty. My lesson, and my gift, is that the book is the same, but THEY have changed. They see their emotions change and grow as they unlock the misteries of the book.

One of my favorite books and was essential to shaping my worldview as a child and young adult. Along with Madeline L’Engel’s “A Wrinkle in Time”. (I’d love to see a video on that book!)

I still remember the day I know The Little Prince, it was a game collapsing with this beauty and I was almost overwhelmed with the world and the conversation of the Prince with others (through the game tho), the way I immediately went to watch the adaption and feeling something risen in my heart. It's special somehow because it was also the last season I played that game, I think I'd like to read this story one time again.
