I think hoping for a 1:1 depiction of any remake is fine. I think what makes something racist is to assume Halle got the role because of her skin and not her talent, if you think the diversity of the cast is the cause for everything else in this film not being to your liking then that’s kinda racist. If you feel like mermaids can’t/shouldn’t be Black period, then yeah that’s racist. Not understanding why a half fish character being portrayed as Black, is not the same as portraying Moana, Pocahontas, or Tiana as white- completely ignorant and annoying. Thank you guys for your honest review. Much appreciated.

Yeah, anyone who still thinks Halle got the role for her skin color clearly has not actually seen the film or listened to the music. She has an actual, stunning siren's voice. And 100%, her performance in the film FEELS like Ariel. They knocked it out of the park with this remake.
