Actually the hypocrisy is astounding. If a white actress was announced to play to Tiana, Pocahontas, Jasmine or Mulan....people would be up in arms about it, and saying it's racist. Then Zendaya is cast as Ariel, and when white women speak up that they don't like her in that role...then they are the ones slammed, and accused of racism. Ariel should be depicted as a fair-skinned red-head because THAT WAS HER CHARACTER WHEN SHE WAS DEVELOPED. Of Irish or Scottish descent and filmed off the coast up there, would be fitting.

Most want to see a likeness to some degree of the original character of a story. I don't love Ariana Grande for the role either, though she would sound amazing. Zendaya would be a killer Tiana.

One: it isn't even real this is totally fan based. Two: nobody is even making this about "seeing color" bro, it's the fact that most people who actually grew up watching stuff like this would very much appreciate it if they kept the live actions true to the original animated ones. Ariel was a white girl with bright, red hair. Zen is an amazing actress and woman, but she doesn't fit this role for a few reasons, not just bc of her color. Everyone needs to quit making literally everything a race, gender, or sexuality fight. Get over it and be done.

Ariel was a mermaid with bright red hair, pale skin and blue eyes. They should get an actress that at least remotely resembles those qualities to stay true to the classic fairy tale. Zendaya is a perfectly fine actress but in my opinion she wouldn’t be suited for this role for those reasons. Saying she is suited to play “any role” is quite drastic considering she probably wouldn’t be able to play, let’s say, an 85 year old Chinese man who only speaks Mandarin lol
