One of my very favorite games to play when I listen to Maugham is to pause the audio and look up the delicious words and phrases that he used. Considered to be well-educated with a large vocab, he makes me feel illiterate and I love it. My ears have never been happier.

Yup. And I appreciate the Maugham-sounding British pronunciation of the narrator.
This is one of my very favorites! Thank you!!
Thank you 🙏
“Mrs.-pause-Forestier” sounds really funny.
Thank you.
I used to be an English teacher, and I wish I'd taught some of his stories. We followed our literature textbooks...mostly. What a pity.
Great story ❤
Forestier would be hard pressed to disguise his lack of schooling - all "Gentlemen" having been sent to Prep Schools and then University.
Does anyone know the composer of the music. Please.

He was a nasty man all his life. His lie at the end did not make him the better man.
I love the Tourette's outbreaks...
