Live actions are different from the cartoons. But that is because they want it to be a cross between the cartoon and reality. They wanted to add that lions can quickly recognize a threat or a pride member.

Yeah. Simba had no time to process what was happening when he was pinned in this version. Had they waited a second or 2 longer before he asked “Nala?,” it would have felt more natural because he actually would have had time to think “wait a minute…” Nala’s realization, however, was WAYYY to quick.

The latter part of the scene makes no sense. To a degree it makes sense that Simba would think the other lion might be Nala, due to how she pinned him. But it makes no sense for Nala to recognize Simba straight away. There is nothing in that scene which says she should recognize him. This is an example of how photorealism stripped the characters of The Lion King of emotion and personality. Because in the animated movie Nala does show skepticism and wariness at how this strange lion could recognize her. It also takes her some time to figure out that this lion she has just been fighting, is her childhood friend. That makes the characters in the animated movie feel like real persons. As a result, what we are given in the animated original is far more realistic and believable than anything in the photorealistic remake.

@@thesamfish6728 But in this scene, the photorealism does inhibit the ability to make the lions emote, which is so important for making this scene work. So much of this movie is weakened by the photorealism and not by the script, because it's essentially the same story as the animated original. So to say it's the writing that ruins it is a little odd, because most of it was written back in 1994.

When Simba stopped Nala from hunting and finally got pinned by her, that pinning was hint for simba to recognize her. Maybe thereafter nala could recognize her because she had been pinning him since childhood and she was his best friend. She knew that if someone pinns Simba, he will think of Nala only.
@Ngamotu83

@@stutijain6290 An individual's technique is not dependent on who their opponent is. Just because Nala pinned Simba like that, it does not stand to reason that she only does that to Simba. The scene is just poorly structured, with Nala's immediate recognition of Simba making no sense.

Let me just say I have not yet seen the movie, and after seeing this scene, I am glad I haven't.....If they can't even be faithful to the recreation of 1:00 minuet scene, then I don't want to see how they botched the rest of this beloved classic.....Now I'm not saying the animation was bad, but in the original this scene was almost 10:00 minuets long, including the chase, the much longer fight scene, and her pinning him, her talking to him while she has him pinned, the revelation, and then the joyous hugging and jumping around, and we see none of that here. This scene feels rushed and cold to me, and I personally don't like the art style going on here, I am and always will be a fan of hand drawn movies, and in 2011, when they released the last hand drawn Disney film, Winnie the Pooh, was the last new Disney movie I watched......I do go back and watch the classics every now and then, but I have not watched their new stuff, and I probably won't.

I don't love this movie, and here is why. There is no facial emotion. I laughed when Mufasa died in the live because they had no facial expression. Compare Simba's face in the live and in the original, you will see what I mean. The only thing I absolutely love in this live-action lion king is the photorealistic computer-generated animation. It is incredible! But that is it. They copied a lot from the original (Just look at the openings. Seriously.) However, there are the people who say, "They literally just copied the original" and then there are the people who say, "They completely changed it!!!" You can't make everyone happy. :( I still love the music and the amazing voices in the live, and not to mention the awesome animation work on this, but still. The animation work is the ONLY reason why I want to see the live-action of Lion King 2 and Lion King 1 1/2.
