Shailene Woodley was born in 1991 in Upland, California. She began modeling at four, and soon started taking acting classes in Los Angeles. She made her screen debut in the 1999 movie "Replacing Dad," but career took off in 2008 when she starred in ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."
After being nominated for a Golden Globe for her role opposite George Clooney in 2011’s “The Descendants,” she landed the lead role in the "Divergent" action series. But Woodley is also an environmental activist with a passion for sustainable living. In 2016, she was a vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders' campaign and joined the board of his Our Revolution organization. She's also an outspoken activist for the Native American community and was arrested during a protest of the Dakota Access pipeline in October 2016.
