The Life of a Passport Bro in Thailand

I interview Alex, a Thai American who calls himself a passport bro. What's a passport bro I hear you say. Well... according to the urban dictionary passport bros are western men who typically travel between Colombia, Brazil, The Philippines & Thailand to date foreign women and live a cheap lifestyle. In this interview Alex talks about his life in Pattaya as a passport bro.

I’ve been a “passport bro” since I was 17 on my first trip abroad to Guatemala 🇬🇹 in 2002. I saw just what women could be, actual real women. Now married for 12 years to a Hong Kong 🇭🇰 woman 👩🏻 💕. Total compliment to my life. Best decision I ever made was to explore the world 🌍 and judge for myself what’s best

It sounds like he is being honest with everyone and it's up to them to decide if they are happy being with him. I do find many times that people can deceive themselves by thinking "yeah I can change him/her". There are also many women in the world that are happy to go out for nice dinners, travel around together etc. and aren't invested in the man, so this type of passport bro thing is a two way street.

Even tough I have been coming to Thailand for over 40 years and living here now for over 17 years, I wouldn't have at first guessed that this dude was half Thai. I guess like my own kids people assume they are farang and not half Thai. But, of course, after watching a few minutes you can see his Thainess.....the same as you can see with my pale Thai daughters!!!! On what he was discussing I really don't have too much to offer as I was much the same in my first 17 odd years here in Thailand. Good luck to the young man....I think he is maybe a little lost in want he really wants but it will all come together and he will have a most wonderful life.

Farang just means causation. But farang now days are used interchangeably, even when referring to African people. Basically saying “not from Thailand” - they are from other countries. They would refer to him as not a farang, but Thai or half Thai, meaning he has half of each genetic pull, which is actually a complement. I asked my girl about this, and the short answer is yes, Caucasian, but we’ve spoken about our friends in Africa and referred to them as farang too. I call myself farang, because I am a farang in Thailand.

@@farangeddie that’s not true. Farang means white westerner/european. Comes from Persian describing the Franks (Germans) back in the day. They call black people whether America or African ‘black’ ie ‘Dum’ which is black in Thai. it’s descriptive not racist. Of course depends on intonation and context per individual.

Hearing about his childhood, there are some similarities Kids can really be a55holes. My Dad was in the Army, basically from 16 to 55, so all my childhood. We lived in various countries around the world, and when it came to trying to get some stability in terms of education, it was pretty common to go to a boarding school. So because we lived in Germany at the time (the school was in the UK) apparently that meant I was German, which in the 80's certainly wasn't a compliment. And because my brother was born in Malawi whilst we were there with Dad, that made him African. Go figure.

I`ve heard on one American channel that these guys travel on "international" passports (as if there existed "domestic" passports). To me the concept of "passport bros" stands for of all that is dumb about America in concentrated form. "Passport bros" apparently stems from the idea that travelling overseas is so outlandish that only those who are in trouble with the law obtain "international" passports to flee justice. No other reasons ever. Curiosity of the world? Nope. Wrong, address. And they do what while abroad? Meet foreign women? Oh my goodness. Shocking beyond belifef.

I'm puzzled Pete. Your interview mentioned that Alex holds a Thai passport. That makes him a citizen of Thailand. He really is not a Passport bro as he lives in Thailand and is a Thai national. You state that you interview expats, but Alex is not an expat in Thailand. So, to qualify one needs to hold a foreign passport and travel to Thailand in search of girlfrieds or a wife. The tourist passports holders will be thrown out after 60 to 90 days. Alex said he lives there permanently with remote work. Many farangs who marry Thai women sadly learn that although they can live in Thailand, they cannot legally have a job or own a home/land. Everything is in their Thai wife's name. If they can learn to speak, read and write Thai then they can try to obtain citizenship. I previously worked in Thailand for 4 years, and it seemed most of the Passport bros back then came from Europe and Australia, not Americans. I've read online that today most of the Passporte bros are from China, India, Pakistan and Russia. Is that true? You're stretching it a bit to throw the Passport bro label on Americans in Thailand. Try harder.

hey mate, let me clarify some points you made. I said in the video that many of the KZreadrs promoting the passport bro culture in Thailand are Americans. I also said passport bros can be from other countries too of course. Alex never said he lives in Thailand permanently in fact he said he is thinking of going to Peru or back to Brazil. I also don't just interview expats. I have interviewed Thais too on the channel. I interview anyone who has a Thailand related story

Very intersting. It is the same if you pull up as a 35 year old in front of a club with a very very nice car and flash cash in your homecountry. Lets be honest... it automatically turns you from a 5 to a solid 7/8 in the eyes of many ladies between 20 and 28. Passport bros do the same, just in another country where a solid cashflow is a lifestyle increase for the local ladies. The ladies in your homecountry suddenly have competition that they don't like. Passport bros are usually guys that do very good for themselves but are sick of the drama in their surroundings. So,.. dear Alex.. enjoy life and don't stop until you have found the right one. When you did, treat her right! But in the end, it is none of my business :D Really,.. the only thing that shokes me is the situation of the american language. In every sentence there are around 10-20 "like". For example: You know I was like, and like there like were like another helicopter like black like... C'mon. You are an academic. Speak like one!

Exploitation is taking unfair advantage of someone. You can exploit people at home and abroad. Individually we have no control over currency exchange rates. Another great interview Pete. Alex seems like a likable guy. Hey, if he’s straight up with the girls, you really can’t say a whole lot. He’s still young, but time is creeping up on him to figure out if he’s going to make this lifestyle a career or choose to start the usual 8-5 career. I won’t say anything bad about Alex, but “Passport Bros”, well, I find the concept kind of sleazy. If you have to use your passport status to hookup, then you don’t deserve a passport, particularly if you’re “using” and “abusing”girls from economically deprived countries. The Passport Bros know the game, and whether or not they want to admit it, chances are they’re making promises they have no intention of keeping. Pete, It figures this is an American idea. We are the country of innovation after all. It’s no wonder so many countries despise us.

LOL..This is what thousands upon thousands of men were doing 30 years, us original passport bros had it hard, back in those days there were no phones for instant info. no phones to pick up ladies, we had to actually try talk to them which improved their English. We had to go and learn the ropes as we went, we set the foundation and passed on the info which you now have in your phone, which you keep in your man bag along side your pack of mulitivitiams and vanity mirror. It was also us original passport bros that got judged and hatred from the western women, men like us were dirty old perverts. I urge you young passport bros to continue sending the message how western women are just not very nice people, and they need to calm the farm, take a chill pill, dont be dissing me bruh, imagine living with a mind that isnt always angry, women need to submit to live a really happy life. However, you need to be careful, Us original passport bros have educated you on how to be a passport bro, but we have also educated Thai women on how to be western.
