I am from the UK and too young to know who he was but came across Password and he blew me away, what a professional and a nice man. Loved the way he said "Hi Doll" and gave that look to the audience before he went over to the guests. Heartbreaking he died so young, he and Betty were so good together. At least he left his mark in this world. I hope they are re-united now.

@@tj-ez2jq she said he was a tough act to follow. She said that kind of love only comes around once in life & what they had was extremely rare. Hollywood knew about them.i read somewhere they were the love of each other's lives. She has said several times he was the love of her life. They had a lot in common.

I remember Alan Luden when he hosted password in the 60's. My folks always tuned in to watch password they never missed that show. Why do things have to be a sad ending ? He did well for himself because he was successful at what he did. He certainly had a beautiful wife which was Betty White. They were a well known couple and Betty is well-known actress. Everybody grows old gets sick and dies. He didn't suffer any tragedies, it was unfortunate that he suffered from stomach cancer. Dispite that he kept going because the man was a fighter until he couldn't go on any longer.

Allen Ludden was well known as the game show emcee that occasionally wore the leisure jackets over turtleneck sweaters whether it was on Password (ABC) or Password Plus (NBC). Other game show emcees briefly mimick his style (i.e. Gene Rayburn in an episode of Match Game '75 congradulating Bobby Van for his new show on ABC "Showoffs") but Allen Ludden did it best.

It was popular in those days that men and women wore turtleneck sweaters with their sports jackets. Something you don't see hardly and people looked cool wearing that in those days. In our Junior High Band we wore turtleneck sweaters under blazer jacket. But marching down the streets in a parade on a hot day and the perspiration running down. But that sort of dress looked cool because that was the norm of the day. That's how we dressed in our band uniforms in the early 1970's.

@@joegongora2200 Back when I attended middle and senior high school during the late 1980s, early 1990s, some of the students, mostly ladies wore their turtleneck sweaters over their sweatshirts and sometimes t-shirts. Even the school bus drivers and libraries followed that trend while the teachers wore them over wool sweaters and sometimes over long sleeved collared button down shirts at times. The high school band in which my sister did participate in wore white (sometimes black) t-necks over red sweatshirts representing the high school band themselves. For some reason, I always find that look attractive which seems to be lesser common by the time I entered college during the second half of the 1990s. I still have the spare red sweatshirt my sister wore during band (I was six grades ahead of her) but not the white turtleneck unfortunately.

That's a good point he must have been about 24 when he served not in any dangerous situations but in the entertainment field. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤨 I guess a lot of Hollywood people of draft age got off that easy also. It seems that world War II wasn't a serious enough war that would take every man the fight on the front lines with no privilege status accepted or tolerated.. my dad was drafted at the age of 35 and that was cut off age. My father suffered and survived a heart attack during the blitzkrit in London. I didn't know the military put favoritism in front of servitism.. oh well I'll never forget my father or my mother who live during the three wars while she and her family moved back to Greece from Boston right before the three wars first by Italy's mussolinians, then the Nazis and the Communists. Thank God her family was gathered up and rescued by the state department because they were born in Massachusetts

First of all, so-called ''Allen Ellsworth Ludden" was not his real name. I think it's a disgrace and shows complete disrespect of one's heritage to change their birth name, unless when a woman gets married. If a woman gets married and DOESN'T change her last name, that shows disrespect to her husband. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the name "Allen Packard Ellsworth'. The change was probably made as a result of pressure from a greedy Business Manager and or Studio, with respect to perceived anticipation of greater recognition and subsequent monetary gain?! Furthermore, what's with the ridiculous looking glasses he wore over time?
