The Life And Death Of Prince Philip - American Reaction

Ойын-сауық

I love history, and history doesn't have to be the past. History is made everyday. Prince Philip passed a few days ago and i figured I should pay some respect by at least learning a little bit about what he has done. As it turns out, this man was a great loving man. RIP Prince Philip.

One of my former boss's met him just before he 'retired', he said he was a great guy, and very funny. When he said anything inappropriate it was always with a twinkle in his eye. There is a tribe in Vanuatu who believe in the divinity of Prince Philip, and whilst in some quarters the tribe are ridiculed Prince Philip, nor the Royal Family, have ever publicly done or said anything that will ridicule them, and Prince Philip has corresponded with them and acceded to some requests by the tribe for photos. In 2018 during a Royal tour of Oceania Prince Charles visited elders of the tribe, and it is believed that their veneration will be transferred to Prince Charles. This shows what a great man he was, where he could have laughed them off, but instead he treated them with respect and didn't disparage them at all.

Prince Philip had an amazing ancestry connecting him to almost all of Europe's royal households. In fact, his grandmother was the sister of Alexandra, Empress of Russia, and Philip's DNA helped to identify the bodies of the murdered children when their grave was discovered after 80 years. First, thank you for delivering such a respectful presentation. I mentioned in my comment to your video of the Queen's coronation that I'm not a monarchist/royalist, simply because she is not an elected Head of State ... but I very much recognize her service to her people both in the UK and elsewhere around the globe. Her husband also by being her Consort has dedicated himself to her and her subjects. The book, briefly shown, penned by Gyles Brandreth entitled 'Philip and Elizabeth' is an exceptionally good read and gives a real indepth account of the man. If it's available for purchase in the US, or via Amazon then I would urge you to get a copy. I do recall the time, (2015), when he's impatiently waiting for the photographer to crack on with taking the group photo and he grumpily snarls, " Just take the f*cking picture ", hahahaha. Of course it made front page news and TV news reports. He notoriously didn't suffer fools, nor did he easily engage in banal chat, and his so-called 'gaffes' were legendary and at times his 'off the cuff' comments were considered racist. One infamous comment he made to a group of British students in China depicted this, " You'll all become slitty eyed if you stay here much longer ". How anyone could not view this as racist is beyond me! So it can be seen by many as difficult to separate the two personalities of the man. We can praise his tireless charity work and his Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and being his wife's 'strength and stay these many years'. But we can't forget the inappropriate comments he's made! I feel for the Queen, she must be bereft that he's no longer by her side. And his 4 children spoke movingly of their father, although it will always be dragged up that he and Charles, supposedly, had an uneasy relationship! When he 'retired' my first thought was, ' Good, he can't get into any more trouble with the public ". But on reflecting more I couldn't help thinking, ' You've certainly earned your rest '.

In traditional royal hierarchy, a King is higher than a Queen. As Elizabeth was higher than Philip, and She was the Monarch, he couldn’t be called King. However, if you look at Prince William, when he becomes King his wife will become Queen Katherine as she will still be one step below him in the hierarchy.

I'm really glad you did this because while he's known for inappropriate comments he achieved so much. Philip was the consort in the same way that Prince Albert was to Queen Victoria, neither had official power but had considerable influence on the monarch. Until he died many had forgotten his influence on conservation, he co-founded the World Wildlife Fund. It's down to him that Charles, William and Harry are so involved in environmental activism now. He was known to be very concerned about climate change. My mother worked for a friend of his who helped organise equestrian events, especially "four in hand" carriage racing which is more exciting than it sounds, worth a Google. His mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, is also a fascinating character, born at Windsor Castle, died at Buckingham Palace, and had an extraordinary life. She was named Righteous Among the Nations in 1993 by Yad Vashem for her efforts in hiding Jews during WW2.

Queen Elizabeth II is a queen regnant, which means she is female monarch - equivalent in rank and title to a king - who reigns in her own right. This is different from a queen consort, the wife of a reigning king; or a queen regent, who is the mother or guardian of a child who becomes monarch at a young age, and rules temporarily in the child's place until they come of age. As queen regnant Queen Elizabeth II outranked Prince Philip, which is why he was not King.

Philip himself wrote back saying "we share the same humour" (which they did & they looked quite similar). There was a later letter saying he'd read the book & giving it a warm appraisal & there were further letters to & fro over the years. When Prince Harry took over from Philip upon Philip's retirement Philip said, "Don't f**k it up, Harry." He did! Now I think Princess Anne is the Captain General.

I believe The Duke of Edinburgh Award sheme is going to be taken over by Prince Edward. A lot of foreigners, especially Americans, think we have a King and a Queen at the same time, if they're married. It's not true. Only one of them is the monarch and has a title like that. The other is just a consort to the monarch, but usually has, or is given, a lesser title, such as Prince/Princess, or Duke/Duchess.

As the eldest daughter of the King and having no brothers. The Queen is a "female King" if there were to be a king he would outrank his wife, the title of "King consort" doesn't exist in British royal titles. To keep it simple, the husband of a Queen Regnant (female King) stays a Prince of the UK, a royal Duke and Prince Consort.

Rest in Peace, Prince Philip. I think you know by now that a man would never become King by marrying the Queen - the sovereign of the land must be the rightful heir - it can't be the spouse of the heir, even if that spouse is a man. That's how important being the King or Queen of England, etc etc is. And the King is always a higher title than Queen Consort - a woman can be titled Queen and you would have to know or find out if she is the crowned Monarch of her country, or created Queen because she has married the King. Whereas a King is definitely it. I hope that makes sense. If you do watch the Queen's Coronation, you will see that Philip is the first to swear loyalty and give her his fealty, as his Sovereign Queen.

@@AcesHighSphere It's because in the Anglo Saxon Period when Kings became a thing a Queen was just the King's wife, she had no power except through her husband and if she had a son through him. Things came to head during the Tudor times Henry 8's only son Eddy has died and there are no more males left in the family left to inherit, so it must go to a woman. As it was such a religious age a husband was put over that of a wife in principle, so if a Women who was to become a Ruling Queen married the men had to be kept down in position by not being made kings to make it clear that they were not in charge. This was done to appease the Parliament and the Nation who didn't want the country to be taken over by another.
