It's weird when you're 19, 20 years old and can relate to someone famous who died so young. She was 27.. I surpassed her age 16 years ago, when I have birth to my oldest son, who turns 16 in July.. who I (obviously) had when I was 27 years old.

It is to bad that they didn't have rehab centers back then for celebrities like they do today. We lost way to many during the late 60's and 70's. It did keep me from doing the drugs. I wish i would have kept saying No . I walked into that bizarre door in March 79. Just Say No. Find a more positive ways to deal with the stress and more. Because "saying no" and "rehab centers" stop people from using drugs.... please educate yourself. Rehab does jack shit hut extend suicide. Rehab centers is for publicity and money. Drug addicts will keep doing drugs until they connect with their true self which is buried by years of supression. Stupid rehabs should actually pay a fucking tention to early childhood experiences which promote this escape through drugs and alcohol.

  • @christar9527

Gian Mercado You’re right. Those rehabs for celebrities just take their money and don’t do much good. With addicts and the majority of people with “mental illness “ their childhood traumas are never addressed and they should be. That’s where the problem lies.

I love Janis's Kozmic Blues album... A lot of her fans arent too keen on it but it has grown on me through the years. A lot of historians like to make Janis out to be this miserable blues singer when she wasnt. She knew what she was doing and she knew the consequences. I'm sure she was bi-polar or one of those diseases they didnt really know about in 1970. God I wonder what her career and life would have been like if she lived. ??

The damage to Janis was done in childhood all she wanted was to be accepted and all the kids, for the exception of a few treated her like garbage. The mental damage from that created the gateway that led to her early death. She was a very fragile soul and the bullying destroyed her in her childhood. So very sad. R.I.P. Janis.

***Will someone please help me out? I could've sworn that I watched a video of Janis Joplin singing a song that had the words, "Pretty little thing let me light your candle". I thought she sung that song before the Black Crows, then they did a cover of her song. Now I can't seem to find the video that I saw before. I can't find it anywhere. I've been looking for 2 hours now. Maybe I'm just getting it confused with something else?

Janis Joplin was born on January 19, 1943, not 14. I have the book Pearl and it also says the 19 on obituaries and Vh1 Behind the Music. I'm 42. I did a term paper on her in college. Most fun I ever had writing a paper in my life.. I didn't do drugs but being 20 and reading some of the pranks she pulled in and after high school were eerily similar to some things I did with my friends. For example, Janis and her friends dragged a "Men at Work" construction sign away from the sight and stood it up right outside a well known Texas Whore house brothel.. Before I did this report or knew this, it was a week before Halloween and a friend of mine and I went through her mom's chest of costumes and found a red 1920's flapper dress. I ended up losing a coin toss and wearing it. We pinned up my long blonde hair into a bob cut and walked across town to a train station in PA that was once upon a time a whore house. For about a hour every time a train was done boarding or passing through I twirled around and posed in full costume waving at the passengers.

Sadly, Janis Joplin died 50 years ago of a heroine overdose in her hotel room. She died alone. She was twenty seven years old, an addict, unmarried, and had no children of her own. All that survives is her music. It is all she will ever be remembered for. Her life is a story is heartache and loss and indulgence. It ended in an early grave. Don’t follow Janis’ example. This is not the way to live; it is certainly not the way to die. Ave Maria.

Yeah, it sucks that she was killed by a heroic woman. By the way, you seem to downplay her music, what will you be known for worldwide fifty years after your death?

Boat Axe Truly, hers was a wasted life. So much potential that ended so badly.... There will never be peace for Janis’ soul. What a terrible tragedy!

Boat Axe A person’s life is judged by God, not popularity or earthly accomplishments. Janis committed several mortal sins before her death and displayed no evidence of repentance. In a hundred years no one will care who she was in life. This is what makes her life a waste- futility. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth; before the days of trouble come...” Ecclesiastes 12: 1. There is no peace for Janis Joplin.

Peter The Rock Ahh... I should have guessed that you were a Jesus freak. Virgin birth? Yeah right. The vast diversity of the human race coming from two people thru the incest of their children? Yep, white people often give birth to other races! Two of every air breathing animal and enough food to feed them on one boat? The Queen Mary wouldn’t be big enough.

There's a difference between singing and screaming lyrics. To me Janis Joplin did not sing. This is considered white noise.
