Not just historical colonialism but modern US economics/diplomacy as well. US corporations own land in other countries and harvests their resources but contribute far less to their economy than they do to the US, and US diplomatic and military efforts go towards preserving those interests (see the CIA's intentional and self-admitted destabilization of the middle east to prevent countries from nationalizing their deposits of oil, and the very long history of US and western European countries instigating infighting and coups within African nations to extract more resources cheaply to be processed for US benefit (notably manipulating the Congo to get better deals on rare earth minerals mined in hellish conditions to be processed into computer parts). It's a brutally effective lie that's been sold for generations at the heart of any empire, including this generation, at the heart of this empire.

Tbf Charles has been shady in the comics for decades, almost since the beginning. The cartoons and movies are the canons which portray him as unproblematic and truly good. Love my man Chuck no matter what adaptation, but kindly teacher Charles is the diversion, not the original.

Just proves how cartoons and “kids’ shows” and pop entertainment can be serious art when the creators have enough respect for the medium and put in the effort.

One major plot hole. Professor X can't do sh*t to Gladiator due to his Psychic buffer / reflection.

The One Above All is the one who made these rules for entertainment and self gain.

What the shiar empire did in the X-Men series is very similar to what various empires on earth did to other countries. Most empires I think of would be like the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Romans, The Aztecs, and the Mongols just to name a few.
