Funny: so many claim that old-fashioned heroes are unrealistic or even outdated for not being complex enough, but a king who utterly gave of himself to save his friends, his people, and the world despite being given the harshest hand fate could possibly deal is one of the most beloved characters in a franchise full of complex, morally grey, and flawed individuals.

@@shadowturtleyinyang For the basics of the game, its about a group of people (chosen from several options by the player) to take on the Heart of Darkness, an entity threatening the world, with a large number of monsters along the way. Most characters have a past with at least one thing they deeply regret like running away from battle or a former life of crime. Others are more morally conflicted about something various issues like one former...I'm going to call her a nun...who wants to fall in love with another person and share her life with them (including physically), even if she was taught that was sinful by her sect. Still others are probably insane like one guy who *really* enjoys causing pain, even to himself. With that in mind, the Leper is a former king who contracted the disease by literally embracing and caring for the sick and dying, even as his (rather pompous) advisors tried to talk him out of it. When he became sick with leprosy and it became clear he was eventually doomed, the advisors tried to overthrow them him, only for him to rally his strength and destroy them one by one with an executioner's blade that broke with the last kill, providing him with his signature weapon in the game. With the conspiracy crushed, he abdicated once he was sure whoever replaced him would be as compassionate and responsible as him, then set out to help those he could with the time he had left, with his first thoughts as he left the city being to appreciate the beauty of the world around him, thankful for the gifts the world had given him.

I am looking forward to when YT becomes old news. It's not just "Watch what you put up," it's "you can be talking about literally anything then randomly get shut down" because of these quacks.

One of the best characters in the Darkest Dungeon, and a King who could look at the Heart of Darkness and feel not fear and horror, but the peace and acceptance of his sacrifice.

Lost to this monster To the man behind the slaughter

As someone who loves the game and considers the Leper(canon name Baldwin) one of the best characters this fills my soul knowing that more people might want to learn his story and compelling character. Also a fun fact: He is inspired on the real historical figure Baldwin IV, a king that did contract leprosy, but the one in DD wears a mask when the real one said he would not wear one unless he became blind. So that supports the theory that this one, the one in the game, did go blind; something that the first game supports with his low hit chance, and DD2 with his constant gain of blinded tokens. He will be able to smash open a whole nautical vessel with one swing of his sword, eventually.

@@shapshapshapshap2829 If you want to try the first game I must warn you, it is quite a punishing game and you must learn from trial and error. Heroes will die, missions will fail, trinkets will be lost. I'm just trying to say that you must try and make the best of the worst scenarios. Also, the second game is a whole different experience than the first. Don't expect a 1:1 copy, the devs wanted it to be it's own game rather than just carry over the first with a new coat of paint.

We have all arrived early for this glorious return upon the rise of a new year, let us rejoice for the joy brought forth by StringStorm and these songs!

And the hero returns, after facing his past demons. Now, he needs to live with that fault for the rest of his life, but now, now. He's gonna trie to learn and to be better, only the time will say if he gonna find peace after all. But the people who followed him in his best moments, is gonna following him is his darkest path, because in the old road, we gonna find redemption.

Not only is this a great song to start the year off but its from the Darkest Dungeon. Unexpected but damn is it great. I love the game and have completed it multiple times and each time this man answered the call and faced down all manner of beast and horror that came to challenge me. This song is incredible at telling his story and his character who just wanted what was best for his people and friends. Can't wait to see what else you have cooking but no matter what it is i will be here to listen the shit out of it.

He has shown his compassion, now they will see his fury

I cannot express how much I love this song. First listen was, while not bad, a bit of a slow burn, second listen onwards is a a treat everytume I listen to it. The lyrics about the leper king are just so good, and the way they are delivered is amazing. Heck of a comeback, stringstorm team

King Baldwin IV "The Leper King" of Jerusalem. One of the most badass men in history.

I have listened to this on loop for about 6 hours and I don’t plan on stopping.

I love that this entire song is just his backstory before going on to teaming up with a bunch of crazy people to kill monsters, demons, vampires, eldritch abominations and eventually a dark god. Said dark god can be killed by the Leper in one hit if you do it right. Not bad for a dying man.

Baldwin The true king Gigachad of Darkest Dungeon Anyone who wants a summary of his story: Was a king, great and kind. Always caring for his people. Went out among them one day, giving out alms and aid. Buy one he aided, had leprosy and he was infected. He struggled with the disease, basically bedridden for a long time. But he managed to notice his advisors were plotting to get rid of him early and take over. Half blind and with his arms numb, he picked up his sword and fought them, winning it despite breaking his sword in the fight. He then went about setting up his kingdom to continue, and abdicated his throne. Taking only his broken sword and his armour, as he headed out to go take evil out of the world before he dies. And as he stood outside his town, Covered in bandages, barely able to feel anything from all the nerve damage. He took a breath, and thought of how fortunate he was

I really love characters who defy expectations. Though the Leper King is tortured, deformed and disfigured by leprosy, he is the most righteous character in the game. A real Hero King. It's a bit like Shrek. Just because you look like a monster, doesn't mean that you can't be a good man. Just like with onions, if the outside looks rotten, you just have to peel off a few outer layers to see if the insides are still good. On the other hand, something like apples can look incredibly good and appetizing on the outside, but contain nothing but bugs and brown flesh.

So glad to see you back. Not a fan of Darkest Dungeon, but still is amazing to hear from you again. I understand that your channel is under new management and you're taking a lesser role, but hopefully you stay involved. Wouldn't be the same without you

Definitely a different style than I'm used to but this slow burn type beat kinda kicked ass so I can't wait to see what comes next.

the Leper I had named Bolbec was the first to make my game experience enjoyable. He was the first to get 6th level. And he was the first to die at such height… This was the only death that had shaken me and crushed my soul. No other pawn was too important for the sacrifice, but not him, for he was not a pawn, but a king that stood with the pawns. In the end he e did accomplish his deathwish, although my wish was to see him alive and successful. I’d want to see him die in peace, knowing he already did everything he ever wanted Eternal rest for the Leper king

Never played darkest dungeon, but this character is obviously based on one of my favourites historical figures (if it's not actually him, i didn't google it yet) and also i'm glad you're back. So this is a must hear for me

One of the very few things im disapointed about DD2 is that we dont get to see the Leper's/Baldwins Kingdom... it honeslty feels like the place might have been one of the few safe kingdoms that inst burning horribly.
