No matter what you called it, Firebird,Thunder Chicken or maybe THAT long blue cabover. If you ever saw it on the road, you never forgot it! And now after all these years it's been rescued.
Steve Ford had three dreams in his young life.
Number one: to produce a magazine for working show trucks... He has
Number Two: to marry a wonderful woman that would understand his obsession with trucks... He did!
Number three: to OWN Firebird someday. And Now, HE DOES!!!!!!!!
Legands only live in the dreams of people!
Steve Ford is a Legand Maker!!

Seeing a cabover just brings back memories. Back in the 1980s there was a mix of cabovers & conventional cabs on the roads here in the USA, & back in the 1970s & down when the length limit was shorter, cabovers were real common. Today the only cabovers I see around are fire trucks, garbage trucks, yard trucks, & non semi box trucks.

I remember this truck back in the 80’s around Chicago. Parked next to him at jewel foods in Melrose park, I was in a old transtar international. I was young and would have paid the owner to have a chance to drive it. Nice to see it out again!!

I drove this truck for almost a year while working for Steve Blunt. It's without a doubt the best driving cabover I've ever driven and I thank Steve for the opportunity to drive such a fine ride. It's great to see it back on the road and doing what it was designed to do.

AS I am Steve Blunt's daughter, I have to say thank you for taking the truck to the public again. Although I have never seen it so rough, you can polish it back to it's glory. You may be the next chapter but Steve Blunt IS the Firebird and the legend. But, I do thank you for taking her to a new chapter.... PEACE OUT---- 'middlebird' Alice Blunt Cagnoni-

Alice Cagnoni your father was one hell of a trucker, I had the honor of sharing many conversations with him over a cup of coffee at the bandit Truck Stop in Whitehaven, Pa. back in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s.

That’s a beautiful truck. What is the engine and horsepower? Cabovers are efficient in one way but not so much on the “ride quality”. It’s like a van....you are sitting over the front tires. The bumps are under you and you take a direct bounce up and down. If you were sitting between the front and rear axles yours be more centered on the see-saw. Bulldozers are the same way. The more you are in the center the better the ride(high track Cat dozers). Europe is ahead of the curve in many ways and they seems to use a lot of cabovers. Maybe they know a suspension truck in Europe? Heck...many European trucks have 750 horsepower plus in a single cabover truck. It must be technology.

i ran into this truck several times over the years along with the last Marmon and a few of these other old trucks that used to be out there. we used to get it done. didn't need no fuckin' gps.. shit... when cell phones came out we thought we was in heaven. calling s&r while you was on your way to the destination instead of finding a parking spot to call the outfit from a pay phone to get directions was a huge leap forward for drivers. They used to put the phone number of your stop on the bills .....wonder how many of these drivers today even carry b.o.l's or know what they are? Hell, do you even need to carry bills these days?
