Great video. My favorite part about Korra and Asami is that they never had a toxic relationship towards each other even when they were in a love triangle. This almost never happens when two women are pitted against one another. In fact, Korra and Asami's relationship is more consistent and supportive than all the other relationships/friendships in the show.

No offense but uh... didn't Korra and Asami have like no interactions for most of the first two seasons? That doesn't seem like a very consistent and supportive relationship.... And that's also why this relationship isn't realistic, like, at all. No sane person would EVER have romantic feelings for someone who assaulted their boyfriend lol.

Marie Knep hello thats why they have book 3 and 4 to build it up? asami did support and help korra in book 2, korra even entrusted her father’s life with asami and directly asked her to take him back home. asami evens says “i like korra”(albeit in a non-romantic way at first) to mako when she wanted him to sort out his feelings. there’s a lot of things you just decide to dismiss entirely. the reason they fell for each other has nothing to do with their ex-boyfriend anyway

One of the biggest relationship flags I noticed in book 4 was how quick Korra was to apologize to Asami when she said something to upset her. The only other person she did that with was Katara, and she's probably got a bit of residual past life love for the old lady. She went out of her way to not fight with Asami... And for a girl who is always ready to fight the whole damn world? That's huge.

First off, I knew red flags as a term but I didn't know relationship flags was too. I'll check but if it does, thanks for increasing my knowledge. Second, I think that isn't due to the Aang Love but more due to the mother figure love similar to the love she has for her parents. In the comics and in the show, Katara taught every waterbending move Korra knew (maybe like a zuko and iroh dynamic? Damn it all adds up, even the gender flip results in the element flip (example of fireboy and watergirl))

Yup. Korra sometimes even find it hard to apologize to her teacher (Tenzin), her parents, and her boyfriend. She was also calmer with Asami than with others. Those gestures were a big statement coming from Korra.

What I'd like to add: I think a lot of people really mistook the ending as a confirmation of a full on in love couple, when really it's just the beginning of a relationship. And also I find it a little weird that people think it's forced when they grew closer with time and the foundation for the relationship wasn't just being attracted to each other physically, like it was in book 1 with Mako, but more having experienced things together and being aware of each others struggles.

Reunion was such a good episode for showing the audience the parallels and differences between Korra and Mako's relationship and Korra and Asami's. They both have a bit of a spat at dinner, Mako because he felt left out and Asami because she felt abandoned. But when things get going, Asami shows enough maturity to set aside the tension and once again works in unison with Korra, while Mako fights her on everything. In the end Asami is a better fit for Korra as a loving and supportive relationship and Mako challenges her (sometime rightfully and sometimes not) but from the position of a friend (See book 2 for why they don't work romantically).

people will complain more about korrasami "being rushed" when there was a several season-long arc establishing the groundwork for their relationship, but they love Sokka and Yue, even though they instantly clicked and were in love by the end of the season.

As a straight white male....Korrasami was telegraphed. Granted, to be fair, it wasn't until the season 4 ending that it all clicked. This relationship was earned, well written, and absolutely brilliant and beautiful.

1:03 I love the line from the grandma saying, You are just like your grandfather mako.

Without going into spoilers, the only downside of the Turf Wars comics so far is that Asami drifts dangerously close to "damsel in distress" territory a few times. It's not too overt until certain parts of both comics, but it is an easy trap the comics seem very close to falling into. I sincerely hope Turf Wars Part 3 has at least a few scenes with Korra and Asami fighting side by side like they did in the middle of Book 3 of the show.

I'd just like to add one thing. I was rewatching LOK and in the last scene when Korra and Asami enter the new portal the background music is The Love song from ATLA. It only plays for 2-3 seconds but I think that's a hint which the writers were trying to give us. P.S. I completely agree about the connection between Korra and Asami in books 3 and 4. I also think that one of the reasons both Korra and Asami didn't date anyone in last 2 books is that they knew at some level about themselves ( Which they confirmed in Turf wars )

Great explanation of the relationship here. Yes, as book 3 opens....notice that Asami is always physically touching Korra in key soft moments. That's not normal in a heterosexual girlfriend context. Amazing video, one of the more insightful summaries of their relationship. One small note, you use the “Conclusion” slide twice and that kind of threw me because for a minute I thought you forgot to talk about _Turf Wars._

Well...great video I love it!!! I just find out about korrasami and I simply adore their relationship, how they started and develop later

It was so refreshing to not have them pitied against one another because of Mako. I absolutely love them as characters and later on in the series when the start to show signs of feelings it was very sweet. Turf wars finished and it's so cute I love it.

Thank you so much for this video! You explained this amazing relationship that touched me in a way nothing has including ATLA (but ATLA is still freaking Awesome!) but it made me proud to be a fan of the series because they tell stories that need to be Heard to be Watched and to be Felt by viewers. Korrasami still makes me cry every time I see them hold hands and look into each others eyes because these are two well written characters that both have been through so much and if you watch back this series and see the development of their relationship knowing the end game....it is well done for the media they had to work with! I love the comics can't wait for Turf Wars 3! Hope they continue to make more!

When I first watched korra, i spotted all those clichés i thought the writers were gonna use, luckily my assumptions were way wrong and even tho there isn't much screen time between their relationship, I'm so darn happy it's canon. Good video. I think it helps to point out the more subtle hints to Korra and Asami’s growing relationship. It helps me solidify my belief that the writers made a good choice putting them together. However, while Korra and Asami will likely say “I love you” in Turf Wars Part 3, I also think Korra will have a conflict with Mako in that same comic. If you look closely, he is not okay with this relationship, and I can’t blame him.

I had to come here to verify all this. As a fan of the franchise I was completely blindsided by this.

It sucks that Nickelodeon wouldn't let them take full control because we would have seen a lot more in the relationship on screen. Somethings may have even happened sooner and we would have gotten the deleted kiss at the end.

If you think about it, Fire nation was not only the most tehnologicly advanced nation but also the most tolerant. In the Boiling Rock prison(that is a both male and female prison btw) you see female guards and female soldiers,wich is kind of unheard of in other nations.Hell,even a princess was supposed to inherit the Fire nation throne. While not perfect, (remember that time when uncle Iroh gave Azula and Zuko a doll and a dagger respectivly) Fire nation doesn't seem to be that traditional and i doubt a Fire lord would forbid gay marrige. Oh i just love picking up on these subtle details, Avatar had such good worldbuilding,i swear-
