The longest-serving heir apparent in British history, King Charles III has acted as the Prince of Wales for a staggering 64 years. It is a role that he came to embrace and ultimately redefine it in his own way. As the role passes on to his son, Prince William not only has to keep up the tradition of duty and hard work that the royal family has always embodied, but also prepare for his destiny to inherit the crown and become King.
As the world remains on stand-by to see how Prince William will take on his new title, does he have what it takes to live up to the legacy of a ‘Duchy Original’?

@@PrincessHarlotte I know you didn’t create the phrase; but I think it sounds so much nicer to say after their Royal highnesses the princes William and George , HRH princess Charlotte is next in line. Either way, she’s definitely not a spare. It’s apparent to me when watching them interact on that rare occasion that the whole family comes out for a family outing/engagement that her parents adore her as well as her brothers. And the kids seem to really get on well (or get along well- as we say in America.) although, I’m sure like all siblings, they have their moments. And I think MM has put most of that spare Poppycock into her Hubby’s head - Way more than whatever little bit of annoyance he had prior to meeting her about being “the spare.” Even though by then, he was not next in line after William and his father. I do really think he wanted to work with the royal family and have his wife fit right in. I’m sure he was somewhat tired of being the third wheel no matter how much they welcomed him. But things did not work out for him as planned. And now that he has shown the world what happens when he doesn’t get everything his way, publicly, I cannot see a way back for him and certainly not them. I hope he can make peace with his dad and maybe even his brother one day after some huge apologies to them. He still has some growing up to do. But he did this all to himself. What a terrible choice he made for his long awaited marriage. I have no idea, but I feel like something must have been the reason they rushed it so much. Perhaps a pregnancy scare? (yeah, I’m being nice. Because who knows maybe she really was pg- in which case I’m sorry for them if something happened to an early pregnancy before Archie or something.) Still they let her have her way with pretty much everything, except for what - the air fresheners? 🤦🏻‍♀️ you would think they would have gratitude. She literally let them do things she couldn’t let her own sister do a number of decades ago. Not to mention her uncle David/Edward. The whole thing is a bit weird.

@@PrincessHarlotte Exactly. HRH Princess Charlotte is the spare (Thanks to Queen Elizabeth II who change the rule in 2018) as HRH Prince George will be the next King after HRH Prince William, of course. Then, there is HRH Prince Louis, next in the line of succession. Prince Harry wasn't the spare anymore, the day HRH Prince George was born in 2013.

The life and dedication of the royal family is way beyond the public eye, the charity work and the benefits they bring to the culture, people in need and the public revenue is way more important than the glam, Charles and William climate, sustantable resorces, and enviromental causes are a magnificent humanity work, and now the Princess of Wales is a superb asset to the Royal family, with the rest of the family working members who does so much benefits to the people very admirable

The best part is they fell in love after developing a friendship first as the foundation. I doubt in those early days they were thinking very much about marriage. But gd willing and I’ll knock on some wood to be safe… I think they will have a long happy marriage. Not saying any or all marriages don’t have any bumps in the road ever. But I definitely see them staying together. And not just for the crown and the family. ❤

Although I do think that they take their commitment to the monarchy seriously. Which is partly due to them taking their time despite any pressure in Charles case, from family and the media, and in Williams case definitely despite intense intrusion from the media and some curiosity from the general public, although I don’t think most of them or trying to rush, William. It’s so sad that Diana did not get to enjoy more of her life and see her boys grow up and now her beautiful grandchildren. She would be so proud of; but I have no doubt lessons were learned both by the firm and yes, the family members…. And definitely the press. Generally when it’s the press against the royal family the public tends to stand with the Royals. And we know the laws and rules around the press and in particular younger members of the family and respecting their privacy and exchange for occasional updates, (such as birthdays and first days of school) was agreed upon. I hope they’re not starting to forget some of those lessons as far as the press this past week.

Prince William has a way to go to build the legacy as Prince of Wales that his Father has forged. He’s off to a great start & can be thankful indeed he’s inherited a position his Father spent 70 years building in financial terms as well as in prestige. The Duchy of Cornwall was financially in a poor state when Charles inherited it & the King made concerted effort to improve it throughout his tenure. I think his Father’s biggest legacy to his son is his people skills, his astute ability to cultivate & forge relationships with people who will benefit his causes & provide opportunities for people to get together to benefit the Nation as a whole. Charles understood the scope of the role of Prince of Wales & so does his son.

Charles forged jack. He was a whimpy kid, did terrible in school was handed an officer title in the military, was lack luster in the navy, was horrible to his wife, cheated on her, lied and used her, had his own Rasputin, cheated with and married a divorced person, (which an abdication of his uncle because of the same reason PUT charles in line). Ergo by rights it should be William. Many would not put it past the royal family to have a hand in Diana’s demise. Follow these facts and you get the picture. Charles was mocked as a prince for his”forward ideas” yet as a king suddenly he is forward thinking. Bunch of syncophants.

Have you seen the video "The Other Prince William"? It is the prince who was a diplomat in Japan and flew there in his private plane at the beginning of the 20th century. In Japan he fell in love with a divorced Hungarian model and stewardess. He was about to marry her but she left for the USA. That Prince William unfortunately died in an air crash... As Prince of Wales Charles followed into the steps of "the other prince William". He was a naval officer, a paratrooper, a pilot, a philosopher, an environmentalist, a university lecturer, an organic farmer, a polo player, a great horse rider, moreover devoted to different charitable causes! He was not a mere jet-setter or womaniser. Organic farming is one of his passions. What more could we expect from the Prince of Wales? Today's King Charles III raised his sons alone after the tragic death of their mother - our beloved Princess Diana. He luckily sent William to St.Andrews University, where children could enjoy their education away from the press harrassment - best choice of a father. So King Charles III did his best to bring up his sons - princes William and Harry! Consequently Prince William inherited the freedom to have gorgeous university years, to accomplish all his military services, to marry for love and have a solid family of three children, raised in the best way ever. William's happy marital life and balanced character is strictly due to his father's legacy. I am certain his brother Harry will ultimately step up to his side and will be his support through all their lives!

William (and his younger brother Harry) has carried name "Wales" for most of their lives. Does he identify as William Wales or just as William? Does Harry identify as "Wales" at all? Do they possible think of themselves as "Mountbatten" ? Do they possible think of themselves as "Windsor" ? What about Kate and their children... George, Charlotte and Louis. As long as the late Queen was alive and Monarch they were known as "Cambridge" Now they are "Wales" just as William (and Harry) were before getting married. Will William identify more with "Wales" part of the Kingdom than most former Heirs to the throne and Kings did (do)? Charles did teach William all about both The principality of Wales and the ducy of Cornwall and how he has (did) manage them. William will keep up the good work and teach his oldest, George, how to manage the land and interest of the people of those places as George gets older and wiser.

I think it's unfair to say that Catherine is not trying to outshine William without mentioning the context of the obvious 3rd person in Diana's marriage from the very beginning. What made Princess Diana so mad and frustrated? Unlike William, his father did not respect and uphold his wedding vows. Even if their marriage was not perfect, he should've put his role as head of church first and focused on his role and his children. Catherine is happy because William is not hiding around in cars to meet up with a mistress from the very beginning of his marriage. Plus she knows how dangerous it would be to be more popular than William.

@CanadianMonarchist that's not true. Camilla was seen in the Royal train in Australia with Prince Charles after Charles and Diana's engagement. So many different sources have confirmed that he was having an affair from the beginning of his marriage despite what he says. After Diana went to the Queen, told her about the affair and asked what she should do, the Queen replied that she didn't know because Charles was hopeless. Straight after Harry's birth, Charles ended intimate relations with Diana.

No everyone seems to give her a blank slate when she was already cheating on Charles after William's birth. Her mental health issues made life unbearable for him and she refused the help of every therapist and psychologist who entered the palace doors. She refused to acknowledge that she had a serious problem but would sit crying for hours on end, refusing to do anything with Charles, etc. As a cousin of hers said, were they regular people, that marriage would be at an end within a few months. She refused to accept her husband for the person he was and kept on trying to change him. It is wrong to keep on blaming Charles when she was the one who undermined her marriage right from the start
