Growing up as a kid, SMB 1 - 3 were amazing. SMW was magical. But it was getting an N64 in my adolescence, Christmas day 1996, that was a literal life-changing - bordering on religious - experience. Nearly 27 years later, I still haven't reached that same level of excitement and wonderment. I probably never will.
I grew up with the DS version of this game, and only played the original recently. Amazing how well it holds up even to this day. Fantastic video!

Me too, I played the original and it felt like a whole new game because of the movement. I cant go back to the DS version due to only having 8 directions to move

I was playing this game on my Switch just before my child was born. I was on the Jolly Roger Bay level, with Dire Dire Docks playing. This was the last game, and the last song I heard before I became a dad last month. So, thank you for this. It's quite the bit more meaningful to me now.
4:03 this is so cool. It just shows how Miyamoto truly is Mario’s father. The fact that Mario’s moves were modeled after Miyamoto’s own movements just makes him a living legend
I like collecting stars in 64 more than collecting moons in Odyssey. It feels better collecting fewer things that take longer to get than it does many things that you are constantly grabbing, often with little effort.
I hear that a lot of people say that it doesn't hold up at all and it's very dated because of how awkward it is to control, and honestly I'm convinced that 80% of the people who are saying that are because they're playing it on the nintendo switch online expansion pack. I've recently played the game through the pc port, project64, and the NSO, and i can safely say that after breezing through the game the first two times, it's probably because the NSO emulator is absolutely garbage.
When you said 25 years my brain literally glitched. 25 years already ? Really ? Great video though, this game was an absolute gem. And it wasn't the only one from the N64. Subbed.
too bad I was not able to play this game in 96. My parents were too poor and nintendos were always very expensive in Brazil. I played this game first in project64 in 2007 and it was impressive how good this game was. this game made me love all the mario series. then I played the other titles in the sequel, mario sunshine (this one sucks), mario galaxy (love it), mario galaxy 2 (my favorite) and I'll play mario 3d world once I'm done replaying new super mario bross wii. Thanks for this video, this helps appreciate even more about the Mario game series.
“…assuming the sexuality of bowser” 😂😂😂
10:55 thats not entirely true, actually the first time Mario had his voice is in Mario Teaches Typing and that was the first time Charles Martinet got the role of Mario.
Super Mario 64 introduced me to not just Mario but video games in general as a child. Although I never managed to complete the game at all, thanks to my fear of a few of Bowser's minions in some levels (ex: the chain chomp)
So much nostalgia. What a game! Excited to see more of your videos.
Great video. I agree with your part on music being one of the most important parts of a videogame. The SM64 ost is so memorable that you could play them to me and I could instantly recognize the theme in the first 5 sec.
While watching this I thought you’d be a KZreadr with tens or hundreds of thousands of subs, seeing your sub count where it is was very surprising. KZread recommended this to me so I wish you much luck to growing this channel! You deserve it 100%, this is great content.
Super Mario 64 is absolutely and positivity one of my favorite and greatest video games of all time. The graphics, levels, and gameplay was revolutionary and breathtaking. It define the 3d era of the platforming genre. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍
The single most revolutionary game ever. I find it strange that Whomp's Fortress is your favorite level, it's probably my least favorite along with Dire Dire Docks.

I always found the levels at the first halve of Peach's Castle to be great. But once u get to the basement & top floor, I found the rest of the levels getting worst with there design choices & mission. With the exception of Lethal Lava Land. That one is good.
I vividly remember running around that castle courtyard for the first time on a system we rented from blockbuster 2 weeks after it was released.
I really appreciate your background footage just non chalantely being the definitive versions of the game
I watched this hole video thinking it would have a lot of views then I looked and only 400 you deserve so much more great vid
I always thought mario 64 ds had waluigi cause waluigi and waluigi pinball was in mariokart ds, great video keep up the great work
Such a great video. You deserve more subs.
First game I’ve ever played along with Mario kart 64. Both blew my mind
it was my first game on my first console and I love to play it to this day.
I was in highschool when it came out and had played all the previous Mario games as a kid. It blew my mind. Very influential game, basically created the 3d platform genre.
dawg why is this man so underratedddd these videos are fire
I only played the DS version, glad to have it on Wii U, but happy to still see the game that founded my favorite Mario Game, Super Mario Galaxy
This was my first ever game I played, but it was on the modded original Xbox and I will always love. This game its one of the best of my childhood 📺❤️🎮😃
Excellent video mate, thanks.
i love your vid's man
It's my favorite Mario game, it has its jank like the last few levels being poorly designed but it lives rent free in my head.
The best part of the game in my opinion is the minor plagal cadence at the very end of the end credits theme.
The final boss music for Bowser was scary for me as a kid. It was even scarier when he didn't die on the first bomb 😂
anyone else get a bit emotional when talking about the L is real 2401 leak of 2020? cause man that was my whole childhood. and when that leak happened. i was crying tears of joy for hours. it was basically putting a over 2 decade long mystery to rest. it was probably the greatest day in my life. that or i'm just too sentimental about this almost 30 year old game
Personally speaking, while I don't think 64 is the best Mario game nor the greatest game of all time and I do feel like there better 3D Mario games than this ( Sunshine not withstanding ), I can't deny the impact & how revolutionary it was back than. The fact it's 3D was surprising and how decent some of it's constructed or core of the game works is interesting to say at least. They are many quirks and things that age here & there, in which later titles improved on. But still. I can respect the game for what it is and despite it's age, I still had an good time with it.
10:30 I literally spit my water
I told you! Great video so far!
2:28 killed me
Very great video that perfectly explained everything that made the game the masterpiece that it is. It has not been surpassed to this day In my honest Opinion as the greatest Mario Game ever made, and For the past 25 years, and still onward, I wait for the true sequel/successor to surpass this game. No other Mario game has managed to usurp the Throne. Mario 64 is waiting for the "chosen one" game to pass the crown on, to become the next King of all Mario Games.
i used the cannon to get the owl star
I'm about as old as this game 🎮

Interestingly Paper Mario had an interpretation of Peach's Castle that looks similar in layout but a lot more detailed inside rooms.
Cool 😎

Also this game was the first ever 3d platformer

Everyone always keeps talking about how smooth the game's controlls are to modern platformers.... And I can can confedently say that its either peoples nostalgia b*ners or the fact that my copy is the only one with slippery controlls

Sega should have made a game like Sonic Robo Blast 2 in 1996. It would have competed well with 64 (Search up Sonic Robo blast 2 if you don’t know what I’m talking about)
