Spot on!
"Our hero as well " , says the Singaporeans .
Lee Kwan Yew was one of the greatest leaders of all times.
Per capita income in Singapore rose from under $500 in 1960 to over $55,000 in 2020. In 1960, half the population was impoverished and nearly a fifth lived in extreme poverty -- less than a dollar a day in income. Now, there is no extreme poverty at all.
Love of country with own system... Care for citizen more than self... Rare Jewel...
A visionary and a fighter.
One of the greatest decisions Lee Kuan Yew made was reject American style liberal democracy. He was however pragmatic and borrowed some ideas from the west as long as these were compatible with Singaporean traditional values with emphasis on order, harmony, discipline, hard work, focus, the rule of law, etc.

The idea that democracy or any other system of power sharing and transfer is a template that can be impossed overnight on a country or people and expect it to work as intended is wrong. A modern democratic system requires strong public institutions and an a working public service etc to grow in tandemn or had to have existed before it can function.

@@Alephkilo dont be childish . you must be young or blind . look at USA > beacon of democracy ? look at how corrupted they are . look at how they "ACE" the system to destroy political opponents . how they use democracy as an excuse to maintain hegemony . How they cant even protect children from dying at the place they should be safe in , schools . Democracy , autocracy , authoritharianism , communism , socialism , all of these are all some what inter related and its really just a game of strategy . Singapore has had all of these at some point of time . so what are we now ? we are a sum of everything that became a system that works . but it works only for us and not for you . get it ?

LKY during his academic Years in Cambridge, UK doing Law, he scored high top marks in every paper in every exam paper in the entire study course! He was so outstanding & exceptional, and that he was the only foreign student to graduate with a top double distinction degree in Law then. His name is inaugurated into the famous Hall of Top Academic Scholars in Cambridge UK! 😊

Singapore is a Democracy. The real heroes of Singapore are its people who work hard, want no favours , are not whiners and just have a bunch of common sense.

LKY laying the foundation, being a visionary genius, seeing political reality with hardened objectivity and ruling with tough love played no small part. If he hadn’t gotten his top-down part right, none of the individual qualities you cited (the micro-level factors) would have had as much opportunity to flourish.

These qualities are present in most of south east asian countries . Look at the Philippines, theyre a sht hole of a place yet their labor force is deemed as “high quality” by many employers. Can never downplay LKY’s leadership.
Late LKY was the best leader of Singapore.
Wow Ray had the same aspiration that they do not need to be remembered but what they can do to help people along.
A native son with a law degree from a prestigious school who has lived under 3 different countries' harsh rule and unjust law turned into a visionary statesman and pragmatic nation builder. Not many developing countries political leader possess such extraordinary life's experiences and excellent academic qualification in history of nation. 🤫
