Is it kind of a New Era with low retail prices for reliable launch monitors?

This is definitely peaking my interest. I love how close it is to the quad. Would be a good test to try a different ball and copy the marks to see if it still reads. It would make it even better if I can use my own ball and mark it. Spin can vary ball to ball. Other than that it looks great.

This looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing the indoor simulation comparison and battery life. It would be good to know how much the balls will cost and how available they will be. Rapsodo should consider making a ball stencil for colouring in the dots on any ball as well if balls are priced in the RCT range.

That might not be happening since its a great way to print money. But maybe a ball stencil could be 3d printed by the community.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the indoor simulator review. This will give people like me, who want to work on hitting the ball straight, the ability to hit endlessly as many balls as they’d like and actually see the results in real time. Cannot wait!

Yeah really curious about outdoor use. I’d say 80% of people cannot/do not have space in their house to make a full swing indoors (especially taller players).

Excellent review. For me the most important read is shot shape. I can deal with spin and distance being within 10%, but if its showing me hitting a slight push when Quad and trackman show a draw then that's a no go. That was the problem with the Garmin, shot shape was all over the place.

I've seen the video of the R10 against gc quad and it wasn't very good. All I remember is it kept me from buying the R10.

@@hellraiser7118 R10 has improved a lot since then. RCT balls, algorithm fix, etc.

If the spin rate can read from the ball that we using will be great. Like we can use the marking pen to draw the dots or lines and if the machine can read out from it will be superb.

IMO, this is a game changer in the personal launch monitor market considering the features and how accurate it is. For the everyday amateur this is more then sufficient.

Wow, spin results were definitely surprising. Looking back, all of the metrics were very close.

Looking forward to seeing what it does without the special ball. I know it won't be nearly as good - but for the price I only need it to be consistent and "in the ball-park" so I can use it at the range.

Been checking back daily for 3 weeks, waiting on the next MLM 2 video. Get to it, lol!

I just read on a sim forum that Rapsodo have asked reviewers to hold off doing a review until they get a firmware update pushed out. Perhaps the Golf City crew can advise if this is true - if so have they been given a date for the update?

Hope it's unfounded worry cause I love the look of it and the 'claimed' measures and accuracy by Rapsodo - despite the subscription concerns many people have. I'm kinda glad I decided to hold off ordering one until the hype settled down and the true reviews on actual performance across all parameters are released. @@Dazzman07 yep. My hangup was the subscription. Hiding ball data behind a paywall is a little slimy. Makes me think they don't have a lot of confidence in their simulation and other virtual features. So they include spin data as a premium feature to basically force owners to go with the subscription. Ironic thing is, I very likely would have pre-ordered if spin weren't locked behind a paywall. Was just the principle of it. But now with the radio silence, I'm even happier to have held off. Likely best to let the growing pains pass before diving in.

As soon as I saw what rapsodo was bringing out, I was insanely excited to see the comparison between 20k to something like this. Even more excited to see the big tests.

I see no reason why a Pro V1 / other brand of ball, marked up identically to the Callaway RPT ball wouldn't pick up spin numbers just as accurately... is this something you guys could test? Also, spin numbers for the RPT ball vs standard balls and whether it picks up spin at all on normal balls would be interesting. Planning my garage golf sim build this year and certainly looking forward to seeing more tests with this device, thanks!

Thx guys!! I have pre-ordered this. I am setting up an indoor SIM with the Rapsodo.. QUESTION?? About a projector for this unit. Do I really need a HIGH $$$ projector.

One reason i like the quad is that it stands in front of you. So maybe a system that has a third camera x screen x and the shot tracing ability to allow for a maximum output and les head shifting and getting out of stance while trying to dial in the numbers.

Hey Fore, God and Country, I believe they mentioned the option of connecting your phone (android or iphone) as a 3rd camera which can be used face on simultaneously so that you can have the additional viewpoint. Intriguing unit.

Thanks for the introduction, this looks amazing. Glad I held off on buying the Garmin. For the indoor use, how much space do you need from ball to the net for it to provide good accurate numbers?

8 feet in front + 6-7 feet behind. 14-15 feet from the net to the Rapsodo behind you - with the ball basically in the middle of that space.

my only concern is what is the difference in readings for using their ball to the one you normally game? would like to see the difference. the product however looks amazing

It was nailing the 9500rpm spins. I doubt it'll struggle with higher ball speeds. Basically, side spin is the only question left in my mind. Looks like someone finally figured it all out for less than $1k.

Yeah, curious about this too. I owned a mevo+ and needed lots of room for driver ball speeds around 165-170.

We’re going to be doing a full simulation test soon but as of right now it does not support putting. Maybe Rapsodo will add that in a future update. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Rapsodo had a previous product, R-Motion, that was compatible with E6. Never understood why the MLM1 wasn't produced to be.

That is an awesome price for everything it does, and its accuracy. Plus premium subscription for 1 year. That's definitely going to put the pressure on other launch monitor companies to lower there prices wouldn't you think. That's cheaper then the optishot orbit if it ever comes out to purchase plus more versatile like taking it to the range. Wish it came out sooner then March, but seems worth the wait.

Any sense if this new LM allows for right and left handed shots for sim play w/out having to make setting changes?

How precise do you need to be with setup? Would this be feasible to setup behind you on the course and record your round, or do you have to be pretty precise with where the LM is located in relation to the ball?

I have a net in my garage, not a screen. Do you know if any of these products work with nets? Also, will those “beta” features be updated in March or should we wait until March to purchase? Also, this is hot if the presses. Like, they don’t even have this on their website.

It will be nice to get a video comparing spin axis and a higher ball speed driver swing (160+). I did pause on the few that they showed both screens results and the spin axis, horizontal and vertical launch angle read similar (although spin axis was presented as spin on gc4 and angle on mlm2. They seemed to line up similarly though).

This looks very promising, and as you can see lots of questions. I would want to be using this at the range, and you have answered that spin data needs the special balls so that’s a no no, cannot recover the balls from the range. Looking forward to the full test if you could also show how you set up for a simulator, if I had one would also look at a net at home outside. Adding the mobile phone as a third camera and how you set up and review. Adding club data and storage if data for analysis. Swing path, angle etc. I have seen pro’s testing clubs using GC Quad and talk about normalising the data to adjust results from range balls to a pro V, Lastly if and when you do test it outside, can you check distances V actual measured shot distance?

GBPSE, just buy a pallet of the RPT balls for one time use at the range. Or enlist some child labor to mark up the range balls DIY style. 😆 On a serious note, the in ability to get spin data at the range is a bummer. But not a deal breaker. One, range balls are unlikely to be all that representative of most people's gamer ball in relation to spin. Two, at least for me, having a ton of data at the range isn't all that important. When I can see actual shot shape, trajectory, distance, etc. Now, I realize this could be more meaningful for others. And if I didn't have a dedicated SIM/LM room at home. I might be more of a stickler for being able to get all the data at the range.

Yeah. This thing looks super promising. I rolled the dice on Swinglogic’s Hybrid X3. Long story short, it’s a great unit. But with one HUGE caveat. Currently the nano sensor does not give reliable readings (i.e. it misses shots all the time). When you do get data, it’s great. But that’s maybe only 2 out of 10 shots currently. Good news is Swinglogic has accepted this flaw and will be dropping an upgraded nano around March. And sounds like they’ll do an exchange for a small fee. So, while I’m cautiously optimistic the X3 will prove to be worth it. I have been looking at alternatives. Was contemplating a Gc3/BLP. But this Rapsodo just jumped to the top of my list.

@@krusher74 Agreed. Ball speed and club speed are right on par with the best of them. But it's hard to get the radar component wrong. As for the nano sensor component. Long story short, they went to market with a "lesser" chip set (due to shortages). Supply has now come around and the originally intended chip set will be built into an upgraded nano. In the interim they've tried to do their best via firmware. But, for me, the readings actually got less reliable. Original firmware I was getting, at worst, 9/10 readings. Definitely a bummer. But nice that us early adopters aren't SOL. And will benefit just as much as those buying new once the improved nano drops in the next month or so. They've been great on the service side, have been super transparent, and are eager to make it right. I'm cautiously optimistic. If the new nano delivers on the reading front, it'll be an outstanding value. Because when it does read, the data is pretty impressive.

I was thinking about an R10 for a simulator but read the spin numbers and shot shape were terrible so I opted for a used SC300 just to get distances an launch angle data. If this thing gets shot shapes correct I might get one to play simulator. You guys didn't mention anything about what kind of simulator software it would use e6? An in house project? Is that part of the 200 / year premium?

This makes me want to finally start a golf sim in my shed. I can finally spend less that 3k and get a good decent setup

You mentioned needing 6 ft behind you but how many feet are required from ball to screen? Would be awesome to get test numbers with "almost golf balls" too if possible, for us that are scared to break windows indoors :p Thank you so much!

In your review can you show the allowable hitting zone one can place your ball in front of the LM and still get accurate readings? I have some buddies who are lefty’s an with my current setup id have to move the R10 each shot to give them space to swing. Also can you putt with it?

how different are the spin numbers when using regular balls in an outdoor setting?

How far does the ball have to travel before the unit can read indoors? My original rapsodo has to travel at least 6 feet indoors and lighting is very important.

What clearance between hitting point to net is needed? I shank hence why this is important!

Can you put the same dots with marker on your own ball you play and get the same results?

Great review of an exciting product especially for a Garmin R10 user like me. The dual cameras look great! I am looking forward to future reviews about other features of the product. I don't like the idea of the specialized ball though. Obviously it means you can't play with your game ball when using it. I expect it still works ok with other balls but would love to see a comparison done. The black dots on the ball look like they are so the camera can pick up the spin rate rather than the radar. I wonder if that means that using RCT balls won't make a difference with numbers. The last big point will be how many third party golf simulators will work with the product. It looks good enough for GS Pro to work well with it. Thanks again.

They only look like the equivalent of sharpie dots. Would be super easy to design a stencil and 3D print it. Which is exactly what I’ll be trying if I decide to pull the trigger on an MLM2

@@AlphaPoppa38 I think there's still a place for skytrack. Space restrictions is one thing. Some people don't have 20-ish feet of space to work with. LMs like Skytrack and GC3/BLP are really the only option for some people, based on their space. If you have the space, I think Skytrack isn't an ideal option. A BLP is not that much more. Same for a Mevo+. And then throw in the MLM2. You can get significantly better performance for a little more. And equal or better performance for half the cost.

Does it still do spin with range balls that I hit outside with my Garmin R10? I like to do outdoor simulation with that but it doesn't really do spin. Will this do it without those marked balls? If so, I'll sell my Garmin and buy this immediately.
