I went on a trip with my parents to Ilfracombe on the paddle steamer Cardiff Queen in the late 1950`s. WE travelled from Rhymney to Barry Island and then through the tunnel to catch to boat, On return we walked from the dockside and caught the train back home

“I’m not doing any aaaarm!” Love it! There’s some cracking photos on google images of the place in its hey day… many a good memory as a kid catching the train from Grangetown in the 80’s, can remember the steam engines in Woodhams and Barry Island Station was always rammed! As a family about 20 of us would get an early train and spend all day all up there in the summer, simple but good memories!

That's a great piece of rare footage there so thanks very much for sharing that with us....i remember getting off at Barry island in the 70's with incredible excitment of going on holiday to butlins just over the road then.what a sad site the station looks now....very run down apart from the live section of the platform.

Sorry, I've only just found this clip. Well done, a good story of our Railway. Keep your eyes open for more trains in 2022? Mike Wilcock: we met when you joined us last December for a steam train ride
