The star system was a way to try and clarify the SBMM of hunt and to reduce frustrations for some newer players, although it can have the opposite effect sometimes. I hover between 4 and 5 stars and I think that’s a fun and exciting bracket to be in so I’m happy :)

People really don't seem to understand that SBMM is to make sure that veterans don't stomp newbies. It mainly exists to benefit the normal to low skilled players so that even if they suck at the game, they're at least paired with people who also suck at the game close enough to their level so that it's a fair fight. Kills vs deaths makes sense for that. The system isn't judging you at how good you are at running away with the bounty or avoiding fights, it's judging you at how good you are actually fighting other people. It wants to pair you with people who are about as good of an aim as you, have about as good of map knowledge as you, kill and get killed about on par with you, and I think the system works really well for that. Thanks to shadowplay there's a recording of each kill I've gotten since I bought the game in 2021 and if new player me had to fight me now I would have uninstalled the game immediately. SBMM is almost certainly responsible for how much fun I was having when I got into the game because everyone else I was fighting against was just as bad as I was. The biggest issue the SBMM system has in my opinion is that it's possible pretty easily to derank yourself on purpose to get down into a lower bracket. I don't have a good solution for this personally, but at the very least the SBMM system seems to be aggressive enough to put you back into a high rank after a game or two of wiping the map. If I go on a losing streak and get put down in the MMR 4 bracket, I usually only have to wipe the map, at most twice to get put back into the MMR 5/6 bracket again.

I'm a 4 to hight 5 star player, and I have to say the 4 star is by far the most fun MMR matchmaking. 5 star up is a cesspool of wanna be tryhards whose aim is usually lacking, but they can sure hold completely still looking at that window or down that hallway till you walk into there sights. Then instead of using this pressure they will camp that body for 40 min, because why would you ever push when every person I run into is running label and Uppercut/ uppercut slate/ Crown and King, etc. Just sit back and watch a movie, because everyone knows whoever pushes first is gonna need a lot of lube from what's about to happen to them

You summed it up very nicely. I will just add that I have had conversations about problems with current SBMM with devs on the official discord. Well, they think it's working flawlessly and it doesn't need any changes. Personally I cheer when I drop down to 5 stars as I am mostly 6 star even though I rush everywhere and never camp. But I am getting punished for doing well. The lower your mmr, the more fun you have.

I'm actually really enjoying 5-6 star SBMM. Both my random teammates as well as enemies being paired against are providing good level of fun. I find Quick Play rather frustrating precisely because it's usually clubbing baby seals with 0.5kdr which leads you into false sense of security as you unknowingly stumble onto 3.0kdr terminator. I don't enjoy kicking a puppy nor being curb stomped. People have extremely misguided view on MMR, perhaps stemming from MOBA where higher MMR = more good. This is not the case - it doesn't exist to measure the length of your e-penis, rather than to settle you in a place where you will encounter enemies similar to yourself. This isn't exactly an easy task because you can't quantify "skill" in an FPS game based on stats. There are many more esoteric factors that can't be easily tracked hence why most games reduce the judgement to following few simple stats which is better than nothing for the purpose of matchmaking. Good player knows when it's time to play fast and loud and where to make an ambush. If one likes playing reckless 100% of the time, running and gunning, if your aim is half-decent you can easily have loads of fun at 5 star MMR. At 6 star you do encounter a lot of people playing it safe but you also encounter a lot of people who will bum-rush you while plinking and consistently hit scanning you through covers giving you no space to breathe. If someone only sits waiting in ambush it's roughly an equivalent of someone purposefully tanking their MMR - they're gaming the system to end up in a place they don't belong to. If MMR was to represent "skill" it would need to take significantly more stats into account and it would still be unable to accurately judge someone's "game sense". FPS skill doesn't come down to aiming alone - positioning, movement, planning your engagements and capitalizing on your strengths while mitigating your weaknesses are significantly more important skills as a player than having excellent eye-hand coordination. TL;DR: To get the most out of MMR just play however you find it fun. Don't stress on how many stars you have because it doesn't matter. If your playstyle ranks you at 3 stars or 5 stars so be it. Just be yourself and you will have whole lot more fun than trying to "climb the MMR". Don't try to get to place you don't belong at and then complain that you have to tryhard and are not having fun. You're doing it to yourself.

We run into the same. Its even worse on console as the playerbase is much smaller at 5 and 6 stars. Our group is low 6*, mid/high 5*. The skill difference between the other players is huge, and with this few players, we often end up getting dunked on by the top50 players game after game. The elongated system makes it you don't lose that much elo when someone higher than you kills you, but you do gain a lot when you kill them. Effectively making 1 kill worth as much as 4 or 5 loses in a row (lucky frag keeping you in there...). The moment we drop enough, we have 1 or 2 decent matches and we're up again. Sbmm doesn't work in a game which has 1v1v1v1 (4 teams of 3). It works in a clear 1 team v 1 team. Something should be added that each consecutive win/loss should increase the loss/gain of mmr after an initial xx losses. Something like overwatch does that it adjusts you rank/bracket based on the last 7 games or so. In hunt it moves up to fast (but you go down really slow). Or just no SBMM at all. Looking at the graph, you can, just dilute the high people in with the rest...

Yeah the MMR/star system isnt perfect and I think thats totally fine. I think the only reason why for some people its actually horrible is because they give a shit about their own MMR rating. If you just play the game for the round and not for your overall MMR its fine. It lets you have pretty balanced and fair fights and thats all it needs to do atleast in my opinion

It all depends on who you kill or die to. If you're 4 star & kill a 6 star, you're immediatly bumped to 5 star. If you're 6 star who dies to a 3 star, thats an insta 5 star. It's insanely punishing & rewarding. No one stays at the same rank for long, because you fly up & down so damn quickly. Normal competitive games like R6 siege or csgo etc. They have you first 10 games be up & down, you'll fly to gold, silver to bronze etc until the games like "aight we think you should be here." And then for another 20 games, the points you make/lose is still high but it gradually goes down. Until the point you gain/lose is very low, THAT is when the game has found your skillrank. And you need to gitgud to climb. Hunt doesn't have that. Ever kill is like a placement match. It will toss you all over the mmr all the time. I can go from bottom 5 star to mid 6 star to bottom 5 star to 6 star to mid 5 star in 1 day.

In it's concept the MMR system in Hunt works better than in many other games. You kill people with high MMR - you get better MMR. But obviously this game doesn't regard if you extract with double bounty, or that you died to a random headshot, or because your teammate revived you, while someone camped, or trapped your dead body. So you get 2-3 deaths and the game thinks you are bad, but in case you probably did nothing really wrong. So this game should also include the bounty to MMR. Because I often meet 6 star players who have a KD of 3.5 or something, but when I look at the stats, they extracted like 10 bountys in their whole HUNT carreer. Sometimes I even feel like I'm the only 6 star player who actually does the objective and doesn't camp in bushes for half an hour.

Burnt his body. His 2 teammates sat in tower + in the house with shotgun. Non of them moved an inch. I unfortunately walked into him & died. So ye, they camp just as much, it happens equally in all ranks. People who lose alot tend to make up reasons.

These are just my personal thoughts on how to line up the MMR system around normalized gameplay, kind of spur of the moment so feel free to share your thoughts(obviously numbers and multipliers are spitball): Increases MMR: Downing players: Trivial boost Bounty extraction: Standard boost & Bounty Booster bonus. Bounty Booster: Multiplies downed player boost(Single Bounty mission: 5x for 1 bounty token/Double Bounty mission: 4x for 1 bounty token & 7x for 2 bounty tokens) Decreases MMR: Match loss caused by enemy players or AI: Standard loss I have had games where my team gets the bounty and immediately head to extraction for the daily extract bonus but had nobody opposed us so we got no kills. We technically won the objective but it was kind of an unsatisfying empty feeling. On the flip side my duo team has had games where we wipe 2-3 other duo squads but we weren't able to catch up to the bounty holders and they extracted, coming out the victor in those fights was awesome, no doubt, but it still felt like we let true victory slip through our finger tips. The game kind of gives that feeling after awhile that if you don't get the bounty extract and some kills to boot you haven't really won. I feel like this may make for a pretty good MMR System as it feels more aligned with the Win conditions of the game and what give the most feeling of accomplishment while making it so people who are good at pushing the objective and gaining kills are raised higher in MMR so that they get more of those action packed fights while the lower MMR players hone their skills. EDIT: Remove Bounty Token Extracts giving MMR themselves but keep the multiplier as it helps steer MMR back towards organic gameplay. Add a slight bonus to MMR gain when you kill an enemy Hunter who is holding a Bounty Token, this way those who show up late to the objective can still gain a good amount of MMR if they win as those who have the bounty tokens have a higher likelihood of getting kills do to having a target on theit back. Maybe gain slightly more MMR when killing an enemy Hunter if you're holding a Bounty Token.

Problem here is that you could always focus on small bounty, play off hours & you'd be 6 star without seeing a single player. Then you actually get players & you're sniped by a winfield at 120m with ironsight. And now you're being stomped for the next 10 games until you derank to a rank where you feel like you're able to compete. Heres how it should work in my opinion. Any kill/Death will remove/add the exact same mmr. So lets just divide up ranks in an easy way. 1-1000 1 star 1001-2000 2 star 2001 - 3000 3 star 3001 - 4000 4 star 4001 - 5000 5star 5001 - 6000 6star Each death adds lets say 150mmr. This is regardless of the other players mmr. So even if you're 6 star if you die by a 3 star, first death is 150mmr. If this 3 star kills you again, it would add a multiplier based on the mmr difference. Perhaps 0.5x increase for each star difference. Which means next death would be 300 mmr loss. Now kills is where it would work differently. If the guy is lower mmr, you gain less, the multiplier would be added immediatly. Because logically it's more likely that you kill him than he kills you. But if you kill a higher mmr, you still only gain 150, you don't gain any multiplier here. Unless you kill a second 6 star. Then it would add a multiplier. So if you're 3 star, it would give you 300mr on next 6star kill. And even if you kill a 6 star then 5 star, you'd gain 150 first then 225. My reasoning for this, is that if you die to a lower ranked, you don't immediatly drop a star, vice versa if you kill a high star, you don't immediatly fly up. Since the game has no diminishing returns after x kills like normal competitive games with X games for placement matches & after playing long in a season. This would make most sense.

@@lockofmetal8894 you're right and it would be easy to farm intentionally. On another hand though not rewarding bounty is also not great. I have 2 thoughts here: - MMR is meant to give you similar skill PLAYERS, not bosses so it's ok when it's no affected by PvE part. Initially rating was not meant to be public and maybe it should not be to avoid discussions like this - if we actually want reward bounty, we need to lower the chances of empty server and removing double bounty would be a good step here. Too often I appear on a smaller bounty side of the map and no one comes to fight me/ And even if I wanted to fight, starting a quest for another boss after the first one is done feels like too much effort

@@yefremjr My point was that bounty shouldn't affect mmr at all. Because how good you are is not based on how many extractions you have. If a solo manages to kill 9 players but a duo took bounty & left. That duo did nothing worthy of increasing their mmr. Theres no "skill" in taking bounty & avoiding combat. mmr was shown to remove confusion on why people felt like they got ownd so often & everytime they saw an up arrow, they assumed that guy had played the game for 15k hours with 100k kills & never sleeps. But instead it caused more confusion & it exposed how horrible the sbmm actually is.

@@lockofmetal8894 I see your point but can only partially agree. Objective is PvE and does is not technically related to your PvP skill but chasing it changes the way you play the game. Sitting in a bush with a sniper and never coming closer than 150m to the boss is also easier than actually trying to take it and extract. If we are concerned that people will pick bounty, avoid combat and leave (which is a very real concern too), we should make it harder to avoid combat while taking the bounty. The game already tries to do this by exposing bounty position on the map but it does not always work and other players don't always "cooperate" And honestly I don't think SBMM is horrible. I only play occasionally at 3 stars but all the complains I've heard can boiled down to "game rewards certain playstyle I don't like". Which is valid but not directly realted to SBMM itself

@@yefremjr It doesn't reward certain playstyles. You can be fucked or rewarded regardless of how you play. Example: Yesterday before i played with my friend i had lost & died alot. So i was close to 4star at 3.5 solo mmr. 3star solo mmr is 4 & 5 star border. After killing 6 people i was 6 star. All because 2 of them happened to be 6 stars. That is not a good mmr system. That is horrible. You're getting hundreds of mmr points for killing 1 6star. Vice versa, if i had died once to a 3 star as a 6star, i would be mid 5 star immediatly. Losing hundreds of points in 1 death. And it doesn't even mean he 150-0 you. You can be hit by a poison sparks by a 6star, he just crouches around & taps you once with nagant silencer & his mmr is what the kill is based on. The pve is ONLY there to attract pvp . That is the only purpose. Now it also helps you being able to buy more loadouts . But the whole idea is that they slap on a common goal to get people to fight eachother. So that is what the mmr should be balanced around. It's just a means to an end. You can't punish bounty holders even more. The moment they stick their head out, 5 other teams will shoot at them. The extraction works fine as it is now with bounties. No mmr balance should be revolved around bounties. As it wouldn't make any sense.

i think the system is pretty good , and its amazing that yo u cant turn it off, so people value more their life, also that the spirit of hunt , like you are hunting and being hunted you dont wanna die . as far as i see it : is it fair to loose more mmr if you kill 3 and die once , the answer is yes . because if you go solo vs trios , you are usually being match with people that are 1.5 stars below or 1 vs duos , so you still have the advantage you want an easy game an increase your kda , play solo , if you want a fair game , play trios , im not saying you wont die vs 2-3 stars, but you will manage to get at least 3 kills per match if yo u are 5 stars .

When my friends and I start getting in the higher MMR matches, the constant sentiment is "Alright, time to go play quickplay and hopefully die to some 2 star MMR players!" We just go in, shoot in the sky in the middle of the field and hope to get head shotted. The MMR system in this game does not balance gameplay and objective based play. Any time I see anyone who is 6 star, I assume they will be sitting in a bush most of the game. That's why I don't hang out there for long.

I disagree abt the 4 star thing, most of them are bold but don't know what they are doing (atleast on console) I can never fall to a 4 star, no matter how bad my games get. Holding 6 star longer than 2 weeks is hard for me because there isn't enough 6 stars on console in daytime it's usually 4-5's mmr. To become a solid 6 star you need to kill 6 stars. Or kill lots of 5's which usually leaves you at 4 and a half for awhile. Mmr system is..confusing 😓

Also four star is best star cus melee doesn't get you instantly headshotted even if you surprise someone tbh. The amount of bomb lance kills from flashes and bees I get or just ambushes is so funny Medium ammo needs a couple buffs and long needs a couple nerfs. Simple as. Also remove avtomat. And i said that to them aswell, you just want to kill bad players & they're like "naah, we just don't want super sweaty games all the time." Like ye, it's because you PLAY sweaty that you end up there in the first place. Just look at the highlight videos on KZread. You see streamers killing these absolutely clueless players. It's entertaining to watch. But thats them killing 3-4stars who are still new to the game. Downraking in QP is super popular, just because of this reason.
