The Last Stop in Yuma County is a MUST SEE | Movie Review
Ойын-сауық
The Last Stop in Yuma County is officially out now, and this is my 2024 movie review. While stranded at a rural Arizona rest stop, a traveling salesman is thrust into a dire hostage situation by the arrival of two bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty-or cold, hard steel-to protect their bloodstained fortune. This one is a must see.

This director is confirmed to helm an Evil Dead film as Raimi and Campell want to use Evil Dead as a jump off point for up and coming filmmakers which is so cool and after this I'm definitely excited to see what he does with Evil Dead!

That’s awesome
This movie definitely gave me Coen Bros vibes with a hint of Tarantino. Entertaining from start to finish.

I dont think its possible to describe this movie any better. Well done.
AUSTIN I am SO happy you decided to talk about this movie. I absolutely loved this film, it will for sure be one of the finest hidden gems of 2024... though I also had some issues with the ending as well. Thank you for giving it the spotlight, it deserves to be seen. 😊
Saw this movie last week & I enjoyed every minute of it. Easily one of my favorite movies of 2024 so far.
*literally just finished watching it like 20 mins ago and all I can say is MUST WATCH*
This is one of the best films I’ve seen in years. It was truly flawless. Great writing, acting, direction, cinematography. A clever story and the pacing was fantastic.
Well good to know I am sharing a review with Austin. I think he knows Cody. My review Background - A duo of robbers escaping with the loot are forced to stop at a diner as the gas station is waiting for refilling trucks to arrive. But soon they are exposed and trapped as more and more people enter the diner. Likes - Well I liked the premise of this movie. Its a interesting set up and the theme is solid. The cast do their bit. Its not a known cast but certainly the perform well. Also technically the movie is well made. It has the look and feel of an A movie. Dislikes - I am not sure this movie really utilized its premise well or at all. There is a similar movie like this Your Lucky Day. Which questions the morality of people when they see easy money in front of them. This movie has a similar idea but whereas that movie really played out that idea to its fullest even if it lacked the production values and the drama to be a memorable movie, Last Stop at Yuma really struggles to put the idea into motion. There is a really long set up which ends abruptly. And there is a following part where an attempt is made to add some substance to the plot but that appears heavily contrived. In short, this movie never really gets going even if had a set up. A different approach was required to really utilize its premise and ask the questions of morality which was the idea of this movie. Final Thoughts - Last Stop at Yuma County just lacks the depth or drama to utilize its premise or explore its main theme. I give this a 5. Its an attempt but not quite a success. The other movie, Your Luck Day did a better job even if lacked the finesse and production values.
went out and saw this today based on your recommendation. so much fun
I watched this because of Jim Cummings’ involvement; love the first two films he directed, and he had something to do w/ The Beta Test although mostly he was just the lead. This is a quirky comic-crime caper; so many show up at that diner in the middle of nowhere, which I found a bit implausible (especially considering *two* pairs of criminals intersect) but oh well. The best part for me was the realization I’d forgotten about the vehicle shown at the very beginning; when shown at the end, now it’s clear why the man they’re all waiting for continues being late. I also appreciate the realism of those getting shot; too often we see movies where people are hit three, four, ten times with little effect, vs. real life where a single slug (as struck Charlotte) would blast their insides to pieces, killing them from catastrophic internal bleeding. 😣
Haven't heard of this, but your review makes me want to seek it out! Thanks for reviewing independent movies as well as the blockbusters!
Bro this movie was a fun watch
Thank u so much love when u review a good movie no one has heard of. Will watch this weekend.
Already saw it. Has a nice breaking bad/tarrantino type of vibe. Great movie. Easy to follow, great characters, makes great tension, and very unpredictable. Great little movie
Loved this movie. Really well made, really well acted. 1 of those movies that takes you for a ride from start to finish and not super predictable.
Loved it! Totally early Tarantino and Coen vibes. Third act is pure nihilism. But in the most organized way.
Had a glorious grin while watching this movie, so much fun!
Slowburn masterpiece. The director keeps you waiting but it pays off big time.
it has similar feel like bad times at el royale in it, but with shorter duration and minus mysteries, btw, anyone know the first intro music that sounds like jrpg theme???
I just watched it and I absolutely loved it! Definitely a slow burn kind of movie. Reminded me a lot of the films that the Cohen Brothers have done. But I do agree with you with the decisions that the character does make and why. But still an enjoyable 90 minutes of a very well made film.
Can anyone tell me what kind of car Miles and that girl drove?? I’ve been trying to find out since I watched it
This would be a nice double feature with 3:10 to Yuma

What did the knife salesman write on the napkin?

Exactly. So many half-baked plot moves in this movie, but none of it matters. Just emptiness and stupidity.

He was probably writing a note similar to what Charlotte wrote on the cup lid, but didn’t get the chance to give it to anyone. I doubt it was a note to his daughter Sarah in case he didn’t make it; why write it on a napkin which could easily get soaked or soiled?
This movie looks interesting.
I liked it. It had a Tarantino vibe, for sure.
Awesome film, but i clean get away would have been more satisfying.
Can i watch with family
@KBizzy

That’s a nope if your family is perhaps a Christian prudey type. Some really awful things happen towards the end.
Great movie until the last 10 minutes. It was perfect but the writers screwed up the ending. Too bad. Everything else was like I said perfect.
Rule of thumb: if Jim Cummings is the star, it’s gonna be a good time.

Correct. Jim’s a good guy!
This director is a new Quentin Tarantino.
But like was it good?
*SPOILERS BELOW* 6:24 was this an intentional double entendre lol

@@danderism That was horrible. 😖 Watch “The Cooler” instead, “Bull” (if you’re not faint of heart) or better yet “Bacurau” from 2019.

You questioned that specific character's motivations at the end. IT. WAS. FOR. THE. DAUGHTER. She's mentioned very early on FOR A REASON. Also, I freakin' loved this film.

Yeah, but I have a daughter, and that feels overboard… Needed a little more explanation on that one. It’s cool if you disagree, but those are my thoughts. Also, no need to yell lol

@@AustinBurke so sorry. First) I apologize for the caps. I use them for emphasis, and not for yelling but yeah I've seen them used for obnoxious means in the past and I should have known not to use them here, and Second) I truly believe that the actions of that character in the final ten minutes was based on their life (read: estranged daughter) situation. We can debate whether real-life folks would do what they did in that character's situation, but in the context of the film, I think it works.

Also, it was clear from the beginning that that character's business was not paying off. SORRY: meant to have that in my rebuttal.
I quite enjoyed the first hour of this movie, but found the last 30 minutes intensely annoying
🫡
Watched this last night.. had some potential but it ends up being totally predictable and empty. Bad script and way over-hyped directing. This movie is pointless and predictable with not little to no redeeming qualities.
I was disappointed by this film. It was one of my most anticipated movies this year. The first hour is fun, had good tension and fun. Good casting except one role. My only issue for that first hour is that the characters took a backseat to the plot. But still, there was plenty there to like (not love). But the last 30 minutes fell apart for me. We focused on an unlikable character so I just didn't care. My prediction is that this film might garner a cult following, but it won't be a break out film
Are you insane? This was the worst movie I've seen in 25 years.

Someone had to say it. Thank you. This was a terrible movie and I am skeptical of the positive hype its getting. Its just empty, pointlessly tragic and predictable. Not a single interesting thing happened the entire movie.
Just watched it. GREAT. Loved it. You will not be disappointed. Spoiler alert. Someone dies.
