They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan. I say, Japan was made by a handful of brave men. Warriors, willing to give their lives for what seems to have become a forgotten word: honor.

Oh sit down Jackie Chan and let us be who we want to be I never understand how modern society is such a contradiction of itself we want equality in race gender class so on but we sabotage the road to it Japan is a example of this it has lingering notion of isolationist attitudes and yet its population is declining and yet it doesn't realize how popular its culture is there are people who have interest in following bushido teachings people who want to live in its country yet I think there a fear that still exists in them fear of allowing western and Japanese cultures mixing unfortunately this is something that cannot be stopped

Japanese does not differentiate between plural and singular unless one puts a counter on it, like say hitotsu or futatsu (1 count or 2 count, or more if you wish). So ''Samurai'', like say ''Pokemon'', can be one or many. The Last Samurai, in my opinion, refers to the entire ''army'' of Samurai. All of them. ''For they are all perfect.''

This is one of my favorite movies. I grew up in Japan and omg, all the complements he gives the Japanese in this movie are so true. They’re so polite, selfless, honorable, honest. And there’s no crime believe it or not. It’s a completely different lifestyle as opposed to America. Which is where I moved a few years ago. And I hate it. People are so arrogant, ignorant, disrespectful of foreigners and their customs and lifestyles, there’s crime at least three times a week, and live such a decedent lifestyle. I want nothing more than to return to Japan and live there for the rest of my life. Two examples. When I first moved to Japan I left my laptop on the plane. Before making it to baggage claim one of the Japanese flight attendants was shouting to get my attention, all the Japanese locals were pointing behind me to try to tell me to turn around. This Japanese flight attendant was running in high heels to return my laptop. She appologized in Japanese and bowed (idk what she was apologizing for but that’s how nice they are) I bowed and thanked her in what little Japanese I knew at the time. You would never in a million years see that in America. Another example, a Japanese mechanic who taught me to fix and work on cars. He had a red R32 Skyline GTR, I later got a Subaru WRX, blob eye. He taught me all with a massive language barrier. Me who spoke English and hardly any Japanese. And him who was the reverse. He spent all day teaching me how to weld and while he left me alone to practice on scrap metal he’d bring me a water from the vending machine nearby. I’d try to pay him back with Yen but he turned it down and said “no no (he had a pause with a big smile on his face and said) my job” btw it was his day off so I knew he was doing it out of the kindness of his heart, just didn’t know how to say it. That was just one day. He’d go on to teach me many more things throughout the next year, all for free, always turning down the yen I tried giving him in return, even during his work hours. All this still with a massive language barrier. I learned a tad bit more Japanese from him but not a lot. Before I left I made damn sure I visited him to tell him goodbye, thank him, and give him a hug. There’s also people that live like this in Japan, kinda like the Amish. Except in Japan with Japanese culture. They wear kimono’s, live in those old fashion Japanese homes and just live like they used to back then. And reject all the western lifestyle crap that’s corrupted america.

The Japanese are a treasure of Mankind. Yes we saw them at their worst in WW II, the Americans will feel this sting i get it. But even the most peaceful entity of our Earth, will resolve to violence when you push it enough... Japan had it's reasons to engage WW II those who search know it. It's not like Japan woke up a day "Ah, War it is." Right? There's SO much to learn and know from the old Japan, and the current. I loved reading your story maybe someday i'll go there. I'just too afraid i'll disappoint them with my European work ethics etc...

To know life in every breath. These words mean so much to me and have been in one form or another my compass in dark times. My father fighting Leukemia and passing, trials and tribulations that tested my very soul to it's core, and dark moments of utter despair. I look and see the importance of the here and now and how precious every moment is for the past has lessons to teach but is gone and the future you can plan for but not know but if you can take pleasure in life in the here and now, you can know what hope means and what a precious thing our fragile lives are. Least this is what this means to me.

It still blows my mind that free living outlaws and honor bound rebel samurai were both wiped out around the same time. Your editing never ceases to amaze me. This is one of my favourite films, I am so delighted examining your videos, the way you structure them individually. And yet I see a common style throughout all of them. Like how a film director has a style with their filmmaking, such as Tim burton etc. You have your own unique style with your editing, one that is constantly being refined. This I find particularly intriguing in contrast with this videos message. Discipline, training, refining ones skills, pursuing perfection in the task. Things which you have done with your videos. I still can’t quite put my finger on how to name your style perfectly in one word. But “Completion” is definitely something that comes close in my opinion. The completion of a story, act, life, etc. If only oscars could be given to tribute editors.

This film managed to encompass the notion of Zanshin better than all the many books I have read with “too many mind”: “…mind the sword, mind the people watch, mind enemy - -too many mind. No mind”. The samurai zen mind summed up perfectly. A great edit that took me back. Thank you.
